Project Alpha (XY OU Team)

This is a team I created with my incredibly limited knowledge on competitive. I've had some good times with it but it also has its flaws, which is why I'm here to get help. Here it is!
By the way, I also have some weird EV spreads on a few, that I myself cannot explain. Please help with that too!

A (mostly) fast offensive team with a FWG core and a few oppurtunies to set up and sweep.

Ferrothorn (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Power Whip

"Can't touch this" is how I like to describe Ferrothorn, my typical lead. Unless I know someone is going to predict his lead, I send him in to at least get a Leech Seed up. Stealth Rocks and Spikes are self explanatory, although I often have the problem of not having a spare turn to get Spikes up. I've been considering replacing him for a Heatran with SR. Power Whip also helps with Water/Grounds, and catching the Rock-Blocking Espeon by surprise. (Contrary to popular belief among Espeon users, hazard leads know what's going to happen the moment we see the little purple rat on the other side.) Rotom-Wash also bows to Ferrothorn if I can catch him with a PW before the Will-o-Wisp comes.

Tentacruel (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Sludge Bomb
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

I know she's not OU anymore, but I still find use, although Tentacruel's position is constantly slipping after every poor match. If it weren't for my need for a Rapid Spinner that wouldn't upset my team's balance, she may have already been replaced. Black Sludge is for Rotom's Trick, and Liquid Ooze is for when something tries to get cute with Giga Drain or Leech Seed. Scald and Sludge Bomb for STAB and their respective hax, Ice Beam for Landorus, Gliscor, and Garchomp(doesn't like EQ though) that think they know everything, and Rapid Spin for protection of a certain insect coming later. Tentacruel is actually quite fast with Timid and speed investment, and it surprises a lot of Rotom-W's that don't like Sludge Bombs or poison. Again, I'm considering replacing her.

Volcarona (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Roost

Volcarona is one of my all-time favorite Pokémon, and will always have a place on this team. I chose Timid for the speed, and the EV spread is self-explanatory. Flame Body takes care of some physical threats if I'm lucky, although I'm probably not going to have him out against a Conkeldurr anytime soon. I've set up with Quiver Dance so many times to sweep teams it's hilarious. I can almost feel the hope drain from my foe's eyes as the Scald from their switched-in Greninja does nothing to the now +2 Volcarona, who can then clean house. Fiery Dance has the additional chance to boost SpA, and Bug Buzz goes around Substitute, so it's especially useful for Baton Pass teams. Finally, no one expects Roost on a Volcarona, so I can safely set up, the Roost away the pain next turn as they frantically switch to what they hope can take a hit. (Note: Strategy completely crumbles to Talonflame, and only succeeds against half-health Charizard Y's at +2-3)

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 184 Def / 152 HP / 72 Spd / 100 Atk
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Stone Edge
- Roost

This guy. I've seen this guy take a +2 Dragon Claw from a Dragonite and walk away with a boo-boo on his big toe. This guy kills a certain flaming chicken dead, and stops those status-stalling irratants in their tracks. The Defense on this guy is ridiculous, and I'm not running full defense EVs. Toxic surprises Rotom-W on the switch, and EQ and Stone Edge are to show the opponent that Gliscor can be more than a Sub-Protect Stall. (More impotantly, Stone Edge put Talonflame in its place.) And Roost is again for the surprise "Finally, this Gliscor is about to die - WHAT!?!?!" factor. If I outspeed, Roost also means I might live an Ice Fang from an opposing Gliscor.

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Recover

My pink blob destroyer, slow dragon crusher, and Gyrados counter has arrived! Again, I like the speed, so Timid with max speed EVs (what, like, third one? Good thing Trick Room is mostly seen in lower tiers, I haven't had trouble with it for this team.) Psyshock kills Blissey and Chansey, Draco Meteor hurts a lot (although I'm not a fan of the halved SpA) and Thunderbolt cleans up several threat, including Charizard-Y not running Dragon Pulse. I'd also like to have Ice Beam on this guy, but I really don't like a limited lifespan, but I like the boost Life Orb gives. I also don't like using T-Bolt with Choice Specs only to have a ground type switched in, and have to leave a fight I could very well win. Therefore, Recover it is, to deal with all LO recoil, burns, poisons, or Leech Seeds he may encounter.

pinsir-mega.png

Pinsir-Mega (F) @ Pinsirite
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Quick Attack
- Return
- Earthquake

Basic Mega Pinsir here. Max speed and attack with swords dance to make it better. Tentacruel clears up rocks should the need arise, and Jolly, once again, makes speed ties (especially with other Pinsirs) more bearable. Return is an already powerful move boosted with STAB by Aerilate, and Earthquake makes an all-too-common OU appearance for coverage, especially against those pesky Mega-Mawiles, assuming I can out-predict or live a Sucker Punch. And many an unsuspecting clinger (my term for when I expect to kill with someone, but it hangs on and kills whatever I have out) hath fallen to a revenge-killing Quick Attack.

Well, there it is! A quick threat that I've noticed:

Mega Charizard Y has the chance to sweep me mid-to-late game. Tentacruel can take two Solarbeams or Air Slashes and retaliate with Scald (I recently fought a weird set that she actually outsped. I guess for some reason the CharY wasn't running speed EVs). Latios can take two hits and hit with Thunderbolt, but might die to LO recoil, especially if there's rocks up. (Some CharY's run Dragon Pulse - a dangerous game of Latios Roulette). Rocks hurt the thing, and Pinsir's QA can kill a hurt one. But, to get a switch on it, something usually dies. I don't like that, which is why I'm considering a Heatran for the team. Please rate, I would really appreciate some help!

Hey! I'm gonna suggest a few changes to your team, some of them major and some of them smaller, but I think a few improvements could be made regardless.

As you said yourself, don't use Spikes on Ferrothorn. They are too easy to remove with Defog or Rapid Spin, so you will just waste turns doing practically nothing. You could switch Spikes to Thunder Wave, to cripple the strong attackers that like to switch to Ferrothorn. Also, don't use Tentacruel, as he's not a good spinner. Your Tentacruel doesn't even take out Char-Y reliably, as that dragon outdamages you even with a Fire Blast. The only chance you have of beating him is that your speed ties go to your favor, and Char-Y is worn down from SR. You should take out Tentacruel altogether, and put Defog on your Latios, thus giving you an extra team slot. Latios is a good Defogger, as he sits in a good Speed tier, and can threaten quite a few Pokemon with strong special attacks. If you want to retain your defensive FWG core, you could try AV Azumarill in place of Tentacruel, gonna put down a set. However, if you want to go for a more offensive Water-type, such as Greninja, that's fine too. Seeing as your Volcarona is part of a defensive core, I suggest you try the bulky Quiver Dance set. This set takes much better use of Volcarona's unique typing, and good Ability in Flame Body. With this set you have more chances of gathering multiple boosts.
move 1: Aqua Jet
move 2: Play Rough
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Waterfall
ability: Huge Power
item: Assault Vest
evs: 16 HP / 252 Atk / 240 SDef
nature: Adamant
move 1: Quiver Dance
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Fiery Dance
move 4: Roost
ability: Flame Body
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
evs: 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 Spe

Your EVs on Gliscor are a bit quirky, you should expand more on why you've chosen those exact EVs. However, with the information I have now, I would still suggest a traditional SubRoost set for you, as I don't think your set does anything a traditional SubRoost doesn't. Your set takes 4% less damage from physical attacks as opposed to traditional SubRoost, but the traditional set has the added benefit of being able to use Protect, thus getting health back more reliably. Also, with more Speed, you could outspeed more threats, making your Gliscor even more relevant.
Move 1: Substitute
Move 2: Toxic
Move 3: Protect
Move 4: Earthquake
Ability: Poison Heal
Item: Toxic Orb
Nature: Impish
EVs: 244 HP / 32 Def / 232 Spe

Thank you! I will definitely try your suggestions. One question, though: Would Ice Punch work instead of Waterfall on Azumarril? Tentacruel had my only Ice move, and I'd really like a counter to Dragon/Grounds and Ground/Flyings. Never mind, I'm stupid.

Alright, I'm really impressed with the way my team has gone since I made all of the changes you suggested. I have a couple replays, and I haven't lost a battle yet. Thank you!

The MVP of this one is Volcarona, who actually manages to take out a MegaCharizard Y in this bizarre circumstance. (Note: some stupid plays are a result of me misclicking, rechoosing, but Showdown changing my move back, Gliscor using Earthquake as TTar went out is one of them, I meant to use Substitute.)

The MVP of this one has to be Ferrothorn. Thunder Wave helps. A lot. I could not have won this without Thunder Wave.

Thank you for your help, Timpsu! Does anyone else have any other suggestions?
