National Dex Psychic Spam Natdex OU (My First Post On Smogon!)

This is a team I’ve been using for a while, and one that I’m very confident with. It’s Psychic Spam for Natdex, taking advantage of Psychic Terrain and speedy sweepers like Kartana and Mega Alakazam. This is my first ever article/post on the Smogon Forums and I hope you all enjoy it. Feel free to comment anything you think would improve the team, and feel free to use it and tweak it to suit your battle style. Now I present to you...

The Team:

Mufasa (Landorus-Therian) @ Focus Sash

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Swords Dance

Landorus-T is my suicide lead. When running this build, one should know when to use EQ and when to use explosion. Explosion is best saved for flying types/levitate users like the Rotoms and other Landorus, while EQ is best saved for slower leads you can out speed and kill like the aforementioned Ferrothorn and Heatran. Focus Sash eats up Ice Beam, and is useful against Pokémon that would normally shut down Landorus-T. SD is for Magic Bounce users like Mega Sableye and Mega Diancie. Overall, Landorus-T is a solid lead for this team.

Magic Mike (Alakazam-Mega) (M) @ Alakazite

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 8 Def / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Recover
- Shadow Ball

Mega Alakazam is a staple of Psychic Spam. Boasting an amazing base 175 SpA and 150 Spe, Mega Alakazam is a force to be reckoned with. Trace is an amazing ability depending on the opposing team that can hilariously shut down Swift Swim and Chlorophyll users, and STAB Psychic is definitely going to hit like a truck. Focus Blast covers Steel’s resistance to Psychic, and Shadow Ball to shut down slower ghost types like Gengar. Alakazam is best used under Psychic Terrain, and should be saved for threats too fast for Tapu Lele.


Lele Pons (Tapu Lele) @ Fightinium Z

Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind

Another staple of Psychic Spam, Tapu Lele is here to set up Psychic Terrain. CM improves both her SpA and SpD, allowing her to take a hit and dish out a terrain boosted Psychic to slower threats. Fightinium Z is used for bulky Steel types and Tyranitar in sandstorm. Overall, Tapu Lele works as the glue of this team and does a damn good job at it.


Loose Leaf (Kartana) @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Knock Off
- Smart Strike

Kartana can be used in multiple ways. Either after Landorus-T to use Knock Off early game, or as a late game cleaner to finish off Toxapex and Slowbro. With Choice Scarf, Kartana outspeeds and fends off many threats like Darmanitan-G and Tornadus-T. However, Kartana is a glass cannon with an abysmal SpD and should not be used against speedier attackers that could OHKO it.


Tormenta (Hawlucha) (F) @ Psychic Seed

Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Close Combat
- Fire Punch

Unburden Hawlucha is a force to be reckoned with. Once Psychic Seed has been consumed, Hawlcuha outspeeds almost everything in the meta. Hawlucha is best used as a predict switch out from Tapu Lele or after Tapu Lele faints. SD is for the extra power Hawlucha needs to kill some bulkier threats, and Fire Punch is there to hit Aegislash, OHKO Ferrothorn, and OHKO Corviknight after SD. You could alternatively run Thunder Punch for Mantine, Corviknight, and Toxapex, but Fire Punch is serperior in my opinion.

Ivan Draco (Dracovish) @ Choice Band

Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fishious Rend
- Psychic Fangs
- Crunch
- Dragon Rush

Dracovish is here to OHKO bulkier, slower threats like Chansey. Choice Band and Adamant are here to maximize power. Fishious Rend is a must on Dracovish, and Dragon Rush OHKOS other Dracovish without the risk of confusion and a chance to flinch, but it’s up to you whether you want to run Outrage or not. Dracovish can be used in a similar vein to Kartana, the only differences being power and speed. Crunch and Psychic fangs are also filler, so feel free to replace them with moves that you think work best.
