Psychic Sweeping

Let's make this Gen V OU team even better than what it is! It's a bunch of Psychic Pokes that gave me only a 50% win ratio. I want to increase and make it better! :)

Pokemon Used

espeon.png

Espeon @ Light Clay
Timid
Magic Bounce
EVs: (252HP/4DEF/252SPE)
-Hidden Power Fighting
-Light Screen
-Reflect
-Psychic

Description: As my main lead into battle, I use Espeon to set up screens defenses for my entire team. Uses Hidden Power Fighting to ward off Dark Type Pokemon and Psychic for STAB attack bonuses. I am considering adding baton pass somewhere to make Espeon even more of a supporter and for a quick way to withdraw safely. Light Clay serves to lengthen the usage of screening. I need Espeon to stay in for as long as possible to keep screens up for more of my team.

exeggutor.png

Exeggutor @ Lum Berry
Bold
Harvest
EVs: (252HP/252DEF/4SATK)
-Rest
-Sleep Powder
-Psychic
-Giga Drain

Description: Exeggutor is another very handy supporter. Exeggutor, with its Dual Typing, gets more attacks with STAB and with the Harvest build, can fully recover at a moments notice. Psychic adds STAB and Giga Drain, same thing, but recovers. Effective countermeasure against Spec'd Starmies or Drizzle teams. Devastated by Drought teams, mainly Solar Powered Charizards, Ninetales, and Infernape.

latias.png

Latias @ Choice Specs
Timid
Levitate
EVs: (4HP/252SpA/4Spe)
-Draco Meteor
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Psyshock

Description: One size fits all here. Wide variety of power moves makes it an effective sweep. All moves, sans Surf, give STAB. Possibly my weakest link, as it is easily demolished with Ice Punches or Ice Beams. Rolled quickly by Sworded Garchomps. However, Latias is able to clear Solar Powered Charizard with ease, and can put up a good fight against Garchomp or Gyrados.

gallade.png

Gallade @ Leftovers
Careful
Steadfast
EVs: (240HP/40Atk/216SDEF/12Spe)
-Bulk Up
-Drain Punch
-Ice Punch
-Shadow Sneak
Description: Devastating build that can wipe Garchomps in two hits with Ice Punch. Drain Punch delivers STAB and counters dark Pokemon with efficiency. If Espeon's screens are still active, it quickly becomes almost invincible and can wreck through most unprepared teams. Dual typing prevents Psychic being super effective. Main sweeping unit.

claydol.png

Claydol @ leftovers
Bold
Levitate
EVs: (250HP/112SpA/144DEF)
-Rapid spin
-Stealth Rock
-Earth Power
-Psychic

Description: Support unit. Uses Rapid Spin to clear out any field obstacles in place, while Rocking the opponent as well. Earth Power can swamp Electivires and Fire-types, such as Ninetales. Ninetales is officially neutralized because of the Rock typing, and uses Psychic for STAB or Earth Power. Serves as my other form of support that can still swamp through Drought Teams and Liechi'd Hitmonlee.

starmie.png

Starmie @ Choice Specs
Timid
Natural Cure
EVs: (4SDEFHP/252SpA/252Spe)
-Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Trick

Description: Though this build is last generation, I found a use for it here. I use this to take out a wide variety of types. Hydro Pump with Choice Specs is insane because given the extremely godly speed of a Starmie, making Hydro Pump harder and stronger will make Starmie a very effective unit in taking out Sunny Day/Sandstorm teams. Chlorophyll Venusaur becomes a joke in the face of Ice Beam, and Sworded Chomps become a memory.

My Problems With the Team

I think I am still going to get rolled by Sworded Scizors. :( Given the better typing, instead of going Mono-Psychic, I feel as if this team has a lot more synergy and plays more fluidly. I played a lot of matches today and noticed a great improvement in my wins and combos.

This thread will get closed like the last one. You should really follow the rules, I would like to help you but I can't because,

1. Your descriptions for each Pokemon need to be longer. I need to know the positives and negatives of each member. The synergy and over all threats to your team would be helpful.

2. This thread will most likely be locked, waste time and stop anyone from helping you.

I'm not the best rater, but here are a few suggestions...

Pokemon Used

espeon.png

Espeon @ Leftovers
Modest
Magic Bounce
EVs: (4HP/252SpA/252Spe)
-Hidden Power Ice
-Light Screen
-Psyshock
-Shadow Ball

Description: Espeon is essentially the leading sacrifice on my team. It opens with Light Screen and then tries to whittle down the opponent as much as it can with a variety of moves. It sets up for Gardevoir by preparing the necessary Defense boost from Light Screen.

Espeon is a good screener, but those LEftovers aren't helping it much. And why Light Screen over Reflect? If I were you, I'd replace the Leftovers with a Light Clay to let the screens last longer, and probably replace a move with Reflect to help get both screen up. That does leave you with only two attacking options, though; I'd generally plump for either Psychic and Shadow Ball (walled by Dark types) or Psychic and Hidden Power Fighting (walled by other Psychics). It might be better making it Timid, too
to ensure you can get the screens up before it's hit.
gardevoir.png

Gardevoir @ Leftovers
Calm
Trace
EVs: (252HP/Atk/Def/48SpA/176SpD/32Spe)
-Will-O-Wisp
-Wish
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt

Description: Gardevoir is my stall fodder. Using Will-O-Wisp to cause a burn status and then stalling with Wish to regain HP quickly, combined with power moves such as Thunderbolt, surely brings people a world of hurt, in my opinion.

I assume you've calculated the EVs to outspeed/surive/kill specific threats. I haven't really tried using Gardevoir, but it looks fine.

reuniclus.png

Reuniclus @ Quick Claw
Modest
Magic Guard
EVs: (252HP/252SpA/4Spe)
-Psyshock
-Focus Blast
-Shadow Ball
-Recover

Description: Reuniclus, given its poor speed, uses Quick Claw. It serves as one of my sweepers. It uses really hard hitting moves and then stalls with Recover as necessary, picking up the pieces where Gardevoir left off.

I guess the speed EVs are to outspeed enemy Reuniclus? It will, though, make you slower than them after a Trick Room. Quick Claw is... interesting. 10% chance to strike first probably isn't better than the power a Life Orb would give your hits, though. The three attack version does give you good coverage. You could run the Trick Room version, but since the rest of your Pokémon are fast it's not the best idea. Your other option is to replace an attack with Calm Mind, which could help you stall more, espeically if Espeon has set up both screen for you to hide behind. Otherwise, he looks okay.

gallade.png

Gallade @ Leftovers
Adamant
Steadfast
EVs: (4HP/252Atk/252Spe)
-Swords Dance
-Aerial Ace (questionable due to lack of priority)
-Night Slash
-Earthquake

Description: My most powerful sweep unit. Swords Dances twice, then swamps most Garchomps (for me) with Night Slash, or Heatrans by using Earthquake. IF it lives through two Swords, it usually becomes a HUGE problem for the opponent.

No STAB attacks? Leftovers? Hm, probably not the best set. Try replacing the Leftovers with a Life Orb; Gallade appreciates the power, whereas Leftovers don't do much for it. It would probably be better to run his STABs, too - Close Combat and Psycho Cut. That leaves a slot for either Ice Punch, Stone Edge, Shadow Sneak or some other coverage move. Consider Jolly to outspeed Heatran, too.

azelf.png

Azelf @ Choice Scarf
Timid
Levitate
EVs: (4HP/252SpA/4Spe)
-Nasty Plot
-Flamethrower
-Grass Knot
-Explosion

Description: This thing is a disaster if left alive. After a Nasty Plot or two, it usually has low life at this point, where it then explodes or uses Flamethrower to max delight. Choice Scarfing it will raise its speed by a good chunk, hence Explosion. This is usually the last resort Pokemon when I'm in a lot of trouble against Sunlight teams, facing Charizards, or taking out Hitmonlees.

This is the worst Pokémon on your team as it stands. You're using Nasty Plot with a Choice Scarf. That does no good at all. Also, since Explosion was nerfed, it's probably not worth running, expecially with no physical investment and without STAB. You could run Trick instead of Explosion, with the goal of tricking away the scarf before Nasty Plotting; or just don't run Choice Scarf, and instead use Life Orb or something. You might think about running Stealth Rock on him too, as nothing else on your team sets it up.

alakazam.png

Alakazam @ Life Orb
Modest
Synchronize
EVs: (4HP/252SpA/252Spe)
-Psychic
-Grass Knot
-Focus Blast
-Shadow Ball

Description: My Special sweeper. Takes a hit or two, can take out Excadrill with a well placed Focus Blast, or whittles down the foe as much as possible. Possibly my weakest link, has little REAL function except be the sacrificial lamb.

Looks good, but his Dream World ability, Magic Guard, is much better. It stops him taking any damage from entry hazards or his own Life Orb, as well as protecting you from residual damage like sandstorm and poison.

-Dark and Ghost Pokemon
-Pokemon that have high attack status

My Problems With the Team

This team, for me, has a lot of physical force, but little supportive force. I can't seem to combo really well and I'm thinking I need more moves like Light Screen, more buffing attacks, etc. It always feels like I rely on the luck too much, banking on critical hits, banking on whatever I can to get an upper hand. I want more to use, and rely less on the luck outreach!

Well, mono psychic is always going to have some difficulties with Ghost and Dark. Giving Gallade Close Combat helps against Dark types, as he isn't weak to them and can seriously hurt them. I guess you could run Giraffarig to be immune to Ghosts, with its unique typing...

Gving Espeon Light Clay plus access to both screen might help your synergy a little, though you want something that can really capitalise on the defence boosts to set up. Gallade with his Swords Dance is obviously one such Pokémon. You could also try out some other psychic types. I like using Sigilyph with Flame Orb, knowing Cosmic Power/Roost/Stored Power/Psycho Shift. Once it's got several Cosmic Power boosts it's very hard for the enemy to take down, and Stored Power does a crazy amount of damage. Psycho Shifting a burn shuts down physical attackers, but it is your only way to damage Dark types. (Walled entirely by Houndoom!)

As said before, Dark and Ghost kills your team. Especially Chandulre. I would try try replacing ardevoir with this girafig set.Offensive Calm Mind
Life Orb Inner Focus Timid
Moveset EVs
~ Calm Mind
~ Psychic
~ Thunderbolt
~ Baton Pass / Hidden Power Fighting / Shadow Ball
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Being part normal keeps ghost N/E on him.

Ugggh. I'm really really bummed to hear that. I spent quite some time on it too.

@Jaxx: errr... IOW, you want more to see how they fit together and work?

Thanks everyone for helping me out! I really appreciate it, and I guess I'll just move on to another board. :( I admit it, I'm pretty...no, VERY clueless about the metagame. I really wanted some help and all, pointers like how to make teams from scratch. I would gladly sign up for the Apprentice program, but chances are it'll fill up faster than I can sign up, it occurs every few weeks, and third off, the tutor will have to work around an Asian guy's increasingly restrictive schedule. I've been looking for help for a long time, and I figured Smogon was a great place to get some. Turns out I get completely wrecked out here for complete lack of knowledge.
