Psychics are fun, no?

Hello. In the spirit of my favorite type, Psychic, I decided to create a mono-Psychic team that focuses mainly on sweeping (as do most of my teams). Please comment and rate. Also, I really do not understand synergy all that well (as I usually work with that while in the battle), but I will try my best to provide you with synergy.

Latias (F) @ Leftovers ** Sephy
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Surf

Copy and pasted directly from Smogon. This thing is amazing! I love sweeping with it. My main problem is against Dragons and Dark types (especially ones like Salamence and Weavile) so I switch into Jirachi or Metagross to attempt to sponge the hit (Jirachi is better at this).

Jirachi @ Leftovers ** Alexander
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 64 Def / 126 Spd / 66 SDef
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Cosmic Power
- Fire Punch
- Iron Head
- Thunderpunch

At first thought, it seems like a gimmick, but I've forced switches and forefits against many teams. The idea is to use Cosmic Power twice (or more, if you feel adventurous), and then try to either induce status or flinching. It works pretty well, especially against Pokemon like Dusknoir or Tyranitar who are pretty crippled after getting burned...huge problems if it gets statused or a Fire-type comes in, however. I don't have a really good counter for those.

Gallade (M) @ Salac Berry ** Dmitri
Trait: Steadfast
EVs: 85 HP / 85 Atk / 130 Def / 125 Spd / 85 SDef
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brick Break
- Fire Punch
- Psycho Cut
- Swords Dance

It's pretty good in this state. I like it's high Special Defense, and it's attack is pretty monstrous after a Swords Dance. Brick Break over CC because it's already fragile enough. Walled by Gyarados, however, so I switch to Jirachi in case that happens.

Azelf @ Lum Berry ** Omni
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 84 HP / 84 Def / 170 Spd / 84 SAtk / 88 SDef
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt

Pure special sweeper. Being fragile doesn't help, and so like Alakazam is a glass cannon in this case (even with the extra EVs). It is almost unstoppable provided there isn't Stealth Rock and the opponent isn't a Dark Type, Heatran or Scizor.

Metagross @ Leftovers ** Aegis
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Hammer Arm
- Meteor Mash
- Rock Polish

Aligagross comes back with a vengeance. If it gets a Meteor Mash boost, it can definitely cause trouble. Hammer Arm is kind of a bad choice, I admit, but the extra power comes in handy against Blissey and the Speed drop can be helpful if Trick Room happens to be in play.

Alakazam (M) @ Expert Belt ** Jamari
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 85 HP / 108 Def / 148 Spd / 84 SAtk / 85 SDef
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Signal Beam

Unfortunately, while he's my favorite Pokémon of them all, he's really not that useful. If a Dark or Ghost type so much looks at it, it's dead. Maybe a different EV spread is needed, but I like being able to reduce a OHKO to a 2HKO against non-super-effective moves (It's always fun to see a Scizor's non CB Bullet Punch fail to OHKO, even if Alakazam fails to do much against it).

This team has major problems against Dark Types, Ghost Types, Heatran, and Scizor. Against those, there's not much I can do. If the Dark type is Tyranitar, I may be able to faint it using my Metagross's Hammer Arm, but other than that, major problems. But, since it's a mono team, that really can't be helped, can it? :|

I've tried switching in Celebi and Gardevoir, but my playstyle (Hit 'em first, and hit 'em hard) means that I'm not very good at using them.

So, again, what do you think?

you need to balance this team more.
all of your pokémon, are essentially, sweepers, so your opponent could switch out often and make your pokémon lose all of thier boosts becuase they are forced to switch out.

also, a sweeper as a lead?

I would use a trick latias instead.

more later.

Ok...I am not even going to comment on the pokes, because the severe limitations of your playing style and the mono-type basically make this team noncompetitive in OU anyways.

Alright first...EV's come in multiples of four. Not five. You are losing a stat point on Gallade that could be gotten back simply by making everything divisible by four. Second, Defense EV's are pretty useless on a team like this, but if you decide to use them, for whatever reason, make use of them. For instance, on your Alakazam, you mention that it turns Scizor's BP into a 2HKO, but that you cannot do anything back. Why not drop the fairly useless Signal Beam for HP Fire? That way, you actually use your EV's and that set might actually catch a Scizor by surprise once in a while.

Your items are your next biggest problem: You do not have a single Life Orb or Choice Item on the entire team. It's no wonder you can't break through walls. Add Life Orbs to Alakazam, Metagross, and Azelf(or Choice Items), and you will do WAY more damage and may actually break some walls down.

As for the movesets, Metagross really does not need Hammer Arm, Thunderpunch or Explosion are MUCH better options in general, plus they don't end your sweep with stat drops. If you are looking for an extra Fighting move, throw HP Fighting on Azelf, it is much more useful than Shadow Ball is.

Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can within the constraints of mono-type(especially if you do not get a wild-card), but I would suggest a LO Starmie, it is very fast and fits your playing style. Good luck.

OK then...thank you for the constructive criticism and I will definitely look more into those options you suggested.

Just so I know, you're basically saying that this Mono-type team and my playstyle suck?

Here's an Update: I decided to switch out Jirachi for the Bronzong lead screener shown below:

*He's first in my team now; Latias is second.
Bronzong @ Light Clay ** Stratus
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 254 Def
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball
- Light Screen
- Reflect

What a weird nature, right? But I figure that he needs it, since Heatran is deadly towards him. Originally, I wanted to use Heatproof, but then I realized Levitate is much better and takes more advantage of his resistances. Why not HP EVs? His defenses are cool, so I figured he didn't need the extra HP. What do you think now?
