Congratulations to Scizorphobic for winning this weeks PU Matchmaking with his Haunter submission! I was sure that the submissions for this week would be diverse and I was not dissapointed with the level of creativity of the posts! Also congrats to gum for winning runner up with Scyther! Thank you to everyone who submitted and voted! A lot of votes were close this week and the great amounts of variety only prove the great amount of options in which Gurdurr can be used in teambuilding.

Week 7!

Ludicolo has proven to be a great asset for teams looking for a powerful special wallbreaker whose moveset and ability can turn into a huge threat for unprepared teams. Its great offensive typing, decent sp. def and ability to set up its own rain has proven to work outside of standard rain teams and turn into just as threatening of a sweeper in other type of builds, but is it able to attract a lover with its dance and dance alongside a loved one under the rain? [○]•w•[○]

Submission phase ends on Friday since I was busy and unable to type this post in yesterday ;-;

Good luck!

Ok so Lycanroc and Ludi form a really good core as they cover each other's checks. Lycanroc invites in Regirock and Mudsdale, both threats that Ludicolo can switch into and take advantage of. Lycanroc also beats stuff like Articuno, Clefairy, and can rk stuff that threatens Ludicolo such as Choice Scarf Dodrio and Scyther. gg gamers.

Regirock @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Toxic

I'd like to call this special core between Regirock and Ludicolo the "Regirocking Ludicolo". Regirock is a fine partner for Ludicolo. Firstly, Regirock is able to handle 2 of Ludicolo's 3 weaknesses, which are Poison and Flying. Also, Regirock has access to Stealth Rock which means that opposing mons will get chipped upon switching in and Ludicolo is able to wallbreak easier when rain is available. Ludicolo also covers Regirock's weaknesses such as Water, Grass, Steel and Ground.

Kangaskhan @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Earthquake
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch

Ludicolo really wants to set up a Rain Dance and blow holes and/or sweep. Tanky mons that resist his stab combo and fast scarf mons give Ludicolo trouble however. Kangaskhan is pretty cool because it can blow holes in Assault Vest mons and specially defensive walls that would tank Ludicolo's attacks and end his sweep early. In return, fat rock and ground types that stop Kangaskhan get demolished by Hydro Pump and Giga Drain. The advantage of Kangaskhan over conventional wallbreakers like Stoutland is the strong priority that Kangaskhan provides. Frail scarf pokemon that can outspeed Ludicolo really fear a Fake Out + Sucker Punch from Kangaskhan.

Mud works perfectly with ludi, he can switch to scyther and dodrio which outspeed him with scarf

Aggron @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Hi guys first post on here. Saw Kelly posting in the PU Chat about this and wanted to have shot at it.

With pairing Ludicolo with Aggron they naturally cover up eachothers weaknesses.
As Aggron resists Bug and Flying and is immune to Poison. While Ludicolo resists Water and Ground for Aggron.

Ludicolo has the ability to beat grass, water and ground types for Aggron.
While Aggron can break through bulky special defensive pokemon in return, opening the way for ludicolo to sweep. Normally when Aggron switches is on a resisted hit it will usually take something out or heavily damage a pokemon. This additionally provides more opportunities for Ludicolo to win.

➤ It's funny how no one suggests Mesprit or Volbeat for a Rain core...I'm going to go a different route as well! :D
➤ When thinking about building around Ludicolo what came to my mind were several specially defensive Pokemon that need to be chipped or removed before Ludicolo can do what it does best: Cleaning (Clefairy, Audino, Eelektross, Hitmonchan, Guzzlord).
➤ So I wanna explain real quick why I thought this Eelektross set in particular is the way to go!

177854

Eelektross @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Atk / 212 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Superpower
- Volt Switch
- Knock Off
- Flamethrower

➤ I won't talk about Ludi's set because it's the standard generic Rain Dance 3 attacks one.
➤ However, with Eelektross we have a fun lure set that works great with Ludicolo that removes some threats after chip damage but let's go in detail.
First: Eelektross and Hitmonchan.

252+ SpA Life Orb Ludicolo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Eelektross in Rain: 239-282 (63.9 - 75.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Ludicolo Hydro Pump vs. 244 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Hitmonchan in Rain: 185-218 (61.2 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

➤ So there are two ways to chip them down in range for Ludi's Hydro: SR + some Volt switches or straight Z-Superpower. And since both of them like to come in on Eelektross this probably happens faster than you think.

44 Atk Eelektross All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eelektross: 192-227 (51.3 - 60.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

44 Atk Eelektross All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Hitmonchan: 194-229 (64.2 - 75.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Guzzlord and Audino are a bit more difficult since they can heal Volt switch chip damage by either Leftovers (Guzz) or Wish/Regen (Audino). And that's why I put Z-Superpower on this set in the first place: With that attack investment you can nail Audino after rocks and Guzzlords gets chipped down to the point where Ice Beam can knock out the Spdef variant.

44 Atk Eelektross All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Guzzlord: 532-626 (81.8 - 96.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

44 Atk Eelektross All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Audino: 360-424 (88 - 103.6%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

➤ The last one can't be chipped very easily because of Magic Guard and Soft-Boiled. However, the only thing Clef can do against Ludi is dodging Hydros and going for CM + Moonblast.
➤ Eitherway, that is a situation Ludicolo doesn't want to be in so doing work with Eel beforehand is important! My plan here would be just knocking it which lets Ludicolo kill it for sure!

252+ SpA Life Orb Ludicolo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefairy in Rain: 282-333 (81.9 - 96.8%)
Ok, "killing for sure" is relative. But at least you 2HKO it for sure.

177855
177856

➤These two form a great Bulky Offense core so another breaker could work here too! Something like Stoutland, to threaten out all of Ludicolo's checks, if you don't want to waste your Z-Move on them yet, fits perfectly.
Silvally Fairy could work as well since Fighting Types like Scarf Ape and Hitmonchan are problematic for that core. Also Parting Shotting out is beneficial for Ludi to set up a Rain Dance safely!

Voting phase!

Great submissions this week. I myself had been experimenting with Ludicolo in teambuilding and this really helps a lot. As jonago pointed out, a bit surprised by the lack of actual rain setters/partners for this but hey, what this thread shows you is a great level of creativity and sometimes the not so obvious choices end up being the most interesting! Thank you to everyone who submitted, great job! :)

Only one of these will be able to dance with Ludi under the rain so which one will it be? You can vote for two!

Thank you so much to everyone who voted! This was a really tight vote between a few users. The difference in roles from the suggested partners of Ludicolo only show how big of a threat it can be and how surprisingly easy it is to fit into regular teams! Ranging from pivots to sweepers to other wallbreakers, this was a really fun one to do and Im really glad to see all of the creativity that came into these pairings. Thank you again for everyone who submitted and voted and congratulations to jonago for winning this week with his Eelektross submission, while Scizorphobic managed to achieve runner up with Stoutland!

And with this our leaderboard changes up quite a bit, with Oathkeepre still on top but three other users able to tie or overcome the highest score in the span of one week! Theres still two weeks, and considering some stuff Ill add score-wise in terms of the upcoming weeks, this should definitely still be anyones game!

Week 8!

Cryogonal joins the PU tier with a cool Sp. Def stat and ability to fulfill the role of a hazard remover via Defog or Rapid Spin while also having access to Recovery and a series of moves to overcome some of its potential checks. This newcomer is definitely still accommodating to its different sets and teammates in the tier, so Im expecting this week to be quite a experimental one! Its totally fine if youre simply theorizing for this mon due to how new it is, but this should be a good practice to notice how this Snowflake Pokemon functions and which Pokemon will be able to compliment it in the love department and in battle! :v:.ʕʘ‿ʘʔ.:v:

Good luck! (Disclose what set youre using for Cryo since the mon is so new).

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 40 HP / 220 Def / 248 SpD
Calm Nature
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Toxic
- Heal Bell

178280

Cryogonal @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 92 SpD / 160 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Recover
- Frost Breath
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

This spread allows Cryogonal to outspeed Oricorio forms, which means that Lanturn isn't as pressured to check them. The Special Attack investment allows it to always 2HKO specially defensive Alolan Sandslash after Stealth Rocks or Spikes with Hidden Power Fighting. Max HP and the rest is Special Defense, this notably allows it to never get 2HKOed by Choice Specs Mesprit's Psychic. Side note, Freeze Dry is an option over Frost Breath but I like Frosth Breath more as it allows it to check Oricorio forms more reliably and it means it isn't setup fodder for Calm Mind Mesprit. Also other side note, Rapid Spin is an option over Defog, as it keeps your entry hazards on the field, but I think that Defog is better when using Cryogonal alongside a Lanturn, as Lanturn really appreciates the entry hazards being of the field as it has no reliable recovery

Lanturn pairs exceptionally well with Cryogonal for a lot of reasons. First of all, Lanturn checks threatening Fire-types like Simisear and Combusken for Cryogonal while the latter checks Ground-types and Freeze-Dry users like Gastrodon, non-Rock Slide Mudsdale, and Aurorus for Lanturn. Secondly, while they can check different threats, they also check the same threats, which puts less pressure on one of Cryogonal or Lanturn, which is especially important if the opponent has another Pokémon one of them needs to check. For example, if your opponent has both an Oricorio-E, which is checked by both, and a Simisear, which is only checked by Lanturn, you'd use Cryogonal as your Oricorio-E switchin to keep Lanturn healthy so it can reliably check Simisear. Thirdly, Lanturn can cure Cryogonal from any status condition with Heal Bell, which can greatly hinder its ability to check threats. In exchange, Cryogonal is able to remove entry hazards with either Rapid Spin or Defog, which eases Lanturn's pivoting and makes it harder to pressure. Lastly, this core is a bit weak to threats like Gurdurr and such, so a check like Mesprit, which completes the entry hazards control core is really appreciated. Overall a very solid defensive core.

- Freeze-Dry
- Flash Cannon
- Recover
- Rapid Spin

Mudsdale @ Leftovers / Figy Berry
Ability: Stamina
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Atk / 128 Def
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Rock Slide
What's better than pairing our new specially-sound-but-physically-frail snowflake with a physically-sound horse? Cryogonal and Mudsdale complement each other not only in their ability to switch in on attacks they'd be weak to, but also to pressure corresponding threats. This offensive Cryo set, aside from outspeeding Oricorios, features Icicle Plate to hit Water- and Grass-types that give Muds trouble for as much damage as possible, while running Flash Cannon allows Cryo to handle most Ice-types, with Froslass and Aurorus being the most notable. In return, Mudsdale deals with Sandslash-Alola and the majority of physical attackers in the tier thanks to its great bulk, ability, and almost unresisted coverage.
