(PU really) Greatest team ever.

Okay, so technically, PU isn't an official tier or anything, but that's what this team was built to be. My first "PU" team, because I noticed that when I play NU, I play using the pokemon most commonly used, just like I play OU. (I don't really play UU or RU that way though... strange.)

Anyways, I built this team as a PU team, and I thought it looked good enough, so I started using it (on Wifi), and the funny thing is, it was pretty solid, and it gave me a lot of hope for the underdogs of the underdogs. If they could pull off wins like that in the bottom of the barrel, what would happen if I brought them up, closer to the light. So, I brought the team to PS, and started playing with it the last couple of days, and I have to admit, I've won about half my matches, give or take. So, after a few changes, I thought I'd bring it here for show and tell. So, let's get that under way.

So, as I stated above, I wanted to create a PU team specifically. So, I looked at the list of PU pokemon, and began my hunt. The first pokemon I noticed was a pokemon I actually use in NU on a common basis. Basculin. I never really thought of him as the low of the low.
550-red-striped.png

So, there we go. A fast, strong, and a bit frail Water pokemon. Its a good start. But, where to go from there? That is the question. That's when I found one of my favorite 4th gen scarf'ers just sitting there, giving me some good ol' fashion puppy dog eyes. Rapidash.
550-red-striped.png
78.png

Now I had my primary physical threats. Basculin, and Rapidash. Now I needed my first wall. Physical in nature, and had the ability to support my frail friends here. Then it hit me, who better to cover a water or fire type then a grass type, and who is, in my humble opinion the greatest NU grass wall? Why, Meganium, of course.
550-red-striped.png
78.png
154.png

My first three. I like using all of them, and two of them I haven't used in sometime. (That being Rapidash and Meganium) Now, we move on to the special side of things, and first thing is first. I need a special wall that can stand next to my Meganium... I also needed a spiker of sort, as well as a rapidspinner, for those pesky Stealth Rocks, that you just can't run from. So, looking over the list, I found Tentacool. Why not, I'll give him a try, after all, his big brother, Tentacruel, is beast in OU.
550-red-striped.png
78.png
154.png
72.png

Now I had two watertypes, but with Meg there, I didn't mind, because, even though she's physically defensive in nature, she can take a few t-bolts and still do her job. (She can take about a dozen T-punches, or Wild Charges, and stall the opponent to the ground!) Okay, so now I need two special attackers. I also need to use a pokemon I've not used in some way, shape or form. A Psychic type wouldn't hurt, so who do I have? I haven't got much, between Hypno, Grumpig, and Beheeyem, I just wasn't getting out of this one verywell. So, I started with the only one I had never used before. Beheeyem.
550-red-striped.png
78.png
154.png
72.png
606.png

Okay, he didn't look good, but what do I know, he could surprise me. I have heard that he's a good trick room sweeper, so you know, maybe. Anyways, I now had one spot left, and I looked and looked, but no one came to mind, and no one on the list looked good really... until I saw, at the top of the list, the only pokemon I had failed to see, Butterfree. I had one sitting in my box, and I hadn't used it for sometime. She was sitting there, from when B/W started, completely unused. So, let's use it.
550-red-striped.png
78.png

12.png

The team was complete, and it was time to play. (I don't test often, I just build a team, and take it straight to the front lines.)And we did pretty well. Like I said before, I lost about half the time, won the other half. After about 3 matches, I could already see a major problem. Fire pokemon hated me, and Beheeyem just wasn't cutting it... at all, so I still wanted a Psychic type, and I needed someone who didn't hate fire types. The only one that fits both parts was Grumpig.
550-red-striped.png
78.png
154.png
72.png
326.png
12.png

So, from that point on, I actually had a team that worked on the PU market. It won a good deal more then when I had the Alien pokemon on my team, and I loved the way everything worked together, so I decided that it should become an official NU team, and so that's what I did.

Johnny (Basculin) (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Superpower

Physical to the max. Johnny's superSTAB Aqua Jet, and Waterfall rock the oceans far and wide. Crunch, and Superpower (which it gets thanks to the BW2 move tutor) provide the coverage needed in this lower tier so I'm not stopped by much. It'd be nice to a different fighting move, but the moment Basculin gets focus punch, or close combat will be the day Gamefreak stops trying.

78.png

Charlie (Rapidash) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Megahorn
- Low Kick

A favorite of mine back in 4th gen NU (and UU on occasion, but mainly NU) Rapidash is a fierce scarf'er. Out speeds a lot, even as an Adamant scarf'er. Flare Blitz is her best STAB, while Wild Charge is a fantastic addition to her move set. Megahorn, and Low Kick round out this set, allowing me to revenge kill a majority of pokemon in the tier, easily.

154.png

Crissy (Meganium) (F) @ Light Clay
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Magic Coat

NO ATTACKING MOVES? WHAT IS THIS NON-SENSE?!? I don't see the need. Anyone who plans on Taunting Meg, will taunt first thing, and will take that Taunt to the face, thanks to Magic Coat. She also, almost always, guarantees me some Stealth Rocks on my opponents field. It is in my humble opinion that Meg is a completely overlooked pokemon these days. With this move set, I'm sure to, and have successfully can, stall just about anyone, even if I don't have Lefties, or Protect.
72.png

Fred (Tentacool) (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Knock Off

Now he has got to be the MVP of this team, so long as Eviolite doesn't get knocked off, otherwise, he's the MTP (Most Terrible Player). Even if I do bounce back the rocks, I don't spend time stopping the opponents rocks all match, and they do appear on my side more often then not. Thanks to Tenta's Rapid Spin, they go away pretty quickly, allowing me to bring in Butterfree directly after, 9 times out of 10. I also put Toxic Spikes on this set to help wear down the opponents walls when I really don't wanna Meg Stall them, though I've been thinking about adding aqua ring in T-Spikes place. Scald doesn't really do any damage, even to fire pokemon, its only there for flyer's, and steals, so I can burn them, which happens quite often. Knock off is the last set, and I always carry it on my Tentacruel, so I figured little brother would carry it as well.

326.png

Tiffany (Grumpig) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

He my not look it, but Grumpig, thanks to his Thick Fat ability, can take a beating. Calm Mind lets me take a very special beating, and retaliate with a very good Psychic or Shadow Ball. I carry HP Ice since a most flyers and grounds hate my team with a bloody passion. Grass is still a good change, but I'm going to stick with ice for now, as it also hits the NU Dragons quite hard. (Even the eviolite varieties.)

12.png

Beth (Butterfree) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder

Butterfree... and no Focus Sash? Now that's unnatural! I agree, but here's the thing, this Butterfree is Sweeper, and that's what she does. With a single Quiver Dance, she gets some decent power behind her STAB Bug Buzz. Add the Giga Drain to heal her some, as well as take out pesky water, and ground types, and Sleep Powder over HP Fire, since Grass types don't bother me that much, and Ice types switch in directly, and are usually put to sleep. I'm thinking about switching the ability to Compoundeyes so that Sleep Powder will hit just a bit more often, but Tinted Lens is still a great ability.

And that's my team. It could use some work, I know, and that's why I brought it here. So, if you could please rate it, I'd appreciate it, and So on, thank you.

I take my threats very differently. I have trouble determining whether a team is a threat or not, until I've faced them. (I've battling for almost 3 years, and I still have trouble telling what is or isn't a threat beyond its typing...)

So, with that in mind, I won't mention it below, unless I've faced it, or some one points it out to me as a threat.

NU Offensive Threats

359.png
Absol: I might lose a pokemon to it, unless reflects up. If it is, Rapidash's Megahorn, and Butterfree's Bug Buzz destrolish it, and they both can take a Sucker Punch.
334.png
Altaria: Offensively, and defensively, this thing can be a pain. I quite often use Meg and Grumpig to keep this thing at bay, but if its set up, I'm in for a fight. Truely.
348.png
Armaldo:
354.png
Banette:

Basculin:
614.png
Beartic:
606.png
Beheeyem: Dies to the fins of Basculin's Crunch, or Grumpig's Shadow Ball. (Trick Room Variants are also handled pretty easily.
628.png
Braviary:
12.png
Butterfree: Rapidash handles this, even after a Quiver Dance.
332.png
Cacturne: Butterfree set up fodder. (3/4 times I faced this, it died to butterfree. The fourth time, it killed Meg, and was revenged by Rapidash.)
323.png
Camerupt: Basculin can usually handle it, but it did sweep me once. (I felt bad when that happened...)
565.png
Carracosta:
573.png
Cinccino:
148.png
Dragonair: I had to stall it out, and failed, as it was a rest set... With HP Ice on Grumpig, I should be able to handle it, but we'll see.
426.png
Drifblim:
578.png
Duosion:

Eelektross:

Emboar: Waterfall to the face... and if it's a scarf'er, then Aqua Jet it to the face.
103.png
Exeggutor: Again, RapidFree handles this nicely.
419.png
Floatzel:
611.png
Fraxure:
282.png
Gardevoir: Butterfree handles this, 4 out of five times, while rapidash does the other one time.
526.png
Gigalith: Meg just stalls it actually. Leech Seed, Magic Coat, and Reflect. Even the Normal Gem Exploders don't hurt that much. Low Kick added to Rapidash also makes Gig cry a bit inside.
471.png
Glaceon: The one time I fought it, it messed me up, pretty bad. Rapidfree was gone. If Rapidfree was alive, it probably would have keeled over out of fright.
76.png
Golem: Meg handles this quite nicely, actually, now that I have Giga Drain.

Machoke: Grumpig and Meg make him cry.

Rapidash: Scarf'ers are a pain, but otherwise both my Rapidash, and Basculin don't mind handling this stallion.
479-frost.png
Rotom-F: Butterfree, after a quiver dance (or two, depending on builds) and Rapidash.
479-fan.png
Rotom-S:

Zweilous: I actually do have an issue with dragons, which is another reason I'm thinking HP Ice on Grumpig or Butterfree.

NU Defensive Threats

594.png
Alomomola: Annoying, but manageable
334.png
Altaria: Look at Altaria above.
591.png
Amoonguss: Haven't face one, but I'm shocked its not climbed after recent spike in use.
144.png
Articuno:
531.png
Audino:
411.png
Bastiodon: RapidFree. (Seriously, they do alot of work on this team.)
323.png
Camerupt: Basculin handles defensive one's pretty easily, but Grumpig is a bit better at it.
615.png
Cryogonal: Basculin will make this thing cry 9 ways from sunday.
136.png
Flareon: Basculin also likes playing with Flareons.
569.png
Garbodor: Grumpig doesn't mind Garbodor, and Tenta wrecks his spikes.
533.png
Gurdurr:
131.png
Lapras:
305.png
Lairon:
463.png
Lickilicky: God, this thing is annoying. All variants are a pain to deal with.
154.png
Meganium: Its on the list, but once again, I don't see it in use anywhere, but on my team.
241.png
Miltank: Actually an issue. It can para me, and heal off damage easily... while clearing away its status issues...
200.png
Misdreavus: Grumpig's Shadow Ball, and Basculin's Crunch... but mainly Grumpig.
518.png
Musharna:
198.png
Murkrow:
476.png
Probopass: RapidFree
195.png
Quagsire: Meg, and Butterfree make this a non-issue.
378.png
Regice: Basculin
377.png
Regirock: Basculin, and Butterfree.

Rotom-S:

Torkoal:

Vileplume:
313.png
Volbeat:

Wartortle: Shocked I haven't see these on PS at all.
110.png
Weezing: Grumpig...

First question: do you want only PU Pokemon or would NU Pokemon be acceptable? I'll assume only PU for now. Before I rate, I would like to point out that I haven't actually tried this tier, except for the occasional dabbling in using uncommon Pokemon. Don't expect anything mind-blowing from me.

First off, I think that Focus Sash is less common that Leftovers on Butterfree, since Focus Sash is unreliable with Stealth Rocks being so prevalent. But regardless, I think Sleep Powder is more useful than Hidden Power Fire on Butterfree. The minute you switch Butterfree in, people will do everything they can to prevent you from setting up too much with Butterfree. Sleep Powder tends to be far more useful in guaranteeing a free set-up by sleeping their probable counter. (Since PU is based on usage every month instead of every 3 months, I also believe that Butterfree may have been bumped up into NU but I am most likely mistaken).

Rapidash recieved Drill Run, which it should use over Double Edge for a somewhat reliable way to hurt Rock types. As for Meganium, Magic Coat is an interesting option for sure. But being Taunt bait isn't really the problem. It is more of the fact that you have absolutely no way to stop an opponent from using you as set up bait. Of course, there doesn't seem to be too many of those in PU, but with the recent usage stats, I can imagine things like Combusken, Arbok, Fraxure, Sawsbuck, and Linoone being problematic. Leech Seed makes you more vulnerable than you normally are, so I would recommend an offensive move over it. Giga Drain would be a standard option, but perhaps Earthquake would suit your needs better. You still need a way to stop opposing Pokes from setting up all over you, but Meganium isn't really the best at stopping them. Unfortunately, both Rapidash and Tentacool are also easy Pokes to set up on (once Rapidash is Choice-locked at least). I would recommend replacing Choice Scarf with Choice Band and changing Rapidash's nature to Jolly. Rapidash is already very fast, and it needs all the power it can get in order to prevent itself from being set up on. You also have Basculin for revenge killing if need be.

That is really all I have for you. If you want ways to counter NU Pokes, or want to add high NU Pokes, then VM me. Good luck! :)

Changes:

Butterfree: Sleep Powder>HP Fire
Rapidash: Choice Band>Choice Scarf
Jolly>Adamant
Drill Run>Double Edge
Meganiun: Giga Drain/Earthquake/Offensive move>Leech Seed

Thanks, I'll give them a try.

Though, I thought about Sleep Powder over HP Fire, (and I'll try SP) but I without Compoundeyes, I'm not to sure on the accuracy.

I also admit that my Rapidash is one from 4th gen, but with Wild Charge on it, instead of Bounce. However, I do like your idea, so that's my first change.

I guess, I might try an attacking move on Meg, though she does pretty good at holding pokes off. I'll have to give the big moves a once over, and see which one works best.

Generally, Low Kick is a more effective coverage move on Rapidash, as it hits the vast majority of heavy Rock-types for 120 BP.

So, Low kick is better over drill run then. Thanks, I'll give it a shot.

I also like the other changes I made. Giga Drain over Leech Seed. While Leech Seed is useful, Giga Drain does help Meg live a bit longer. (I also tried protect, which wasn't really worth it.) And Sleep Powder is useful, allowing me to cripple those flyers and occasional Glaceon I run into, who sort of hate my team.
