Non-RBYer Manager's Guide to PUCL I RBY
Hello. Auction is in a week but most of the signups have already happened, so it's a good time to highlight people who could be drafted. One thing I'd like to point out is that the RBY Lower Tier scene has largely homogenized. Pretty much anyone with major success in one lower tier is able to perform in other lower tiers, there are a lot of "rby lower tier" fundamentals that are constant throughout the tiers. I'll list any relevant RBY PU accomplishments and any other RBY lower tier accomplishments from 2025 and 2026 as well, since the skills are mostly transferable. I'll update this if any major RBY players pop up. Players are ordered in a vague order of "established-ness."
Maris Bonibell
(RBY PU Cup Winner 2025, 4-2 PUBD II)
[8-0 UUCL I, 6-1 UUFPL V, 6-1 RBY UU ALTPL III, 5-2 NUCL III, 6-3 NUCL II, C+ Winner, ZU Spotlight Winner, 2-3 NUFL I, 2-4 ZUOL III]
There's only been one tournament with the current RBY PU format, and Maris Bonibell won it, beating Sabelette, me, Plague (who went 5-2 this RBYPL in PU), and phil. She's also been crushing it in team tournaments this entire year, going immensely positive in 6 out of 8 lower tier teamtours she's partaken in. She's also an active teamcord presence, and is self-sufficient in her tier. An obvious pick who isn't going to go for cheap.
NotVeryCake
(3-2 PUBD II)
[3-2 NUFL I, 4-3 UUFPL V, 1-3 NUCL II, 3-2 ZUOL III]
Cake's track record may seem a bit barren in 2025, but she took a large break from RBY Lower Tiers in the second half of the year to focus more on RBY Ubers and GSC. She crushed the Ubers pool in RBYPL, going 6-2, and her roots in RBY lower tiers come from RBY PU, winning the RBY PU tour from 2024, winning 2024's Lower Tier Circuit Championship Playoffs while picking PU, and going 4-1 in RBYPL IV for her first RBYPL. Although she hasn't played the Rapidash-less meta of RBY PU, she seems to be interested in coming back to the scene and in my eyes, her play hasn't atrophied. She'll break even at the bare minimum, she's self-sufficient, and will play solidly.

THE_CHUNGLER
(Top 4 PU Open III)
[7-1 RBY NU RBYPL VI, Top 2 RBY NU Open IV, 3-1 NUFL I, 1-0 NUCL III, 2-3 UUCL I]
2025 has been a year of retirements for most of the RBY Lower Tier scene, and people like THE_CHUNGLER have come to fill that void. Storming in from complete irrelevance in the summer of 2025, they put up a solid showing in NU Open and PU Open, only being stopped by Amaranth and Sabelette. Since then, THE_CHUNGLER has put a genuine effort into learning RBY lower tiers and has put up good results, going 7-1 in RBYPL and positive in other tours as well. He made it to top 4 of RBY PU Open III, though that was in a different meta with Rapidash still allowed. Actually this guy is a manager
hammer798
(No relevant RBY PU results)
[RBY NU Cup Winner, 4-5 RBY NU RBYPL VI, 3-4 NUCL III, 3-2 RBY NU ALTPL III, 0-1 NUCL II on sub]
hammer798 is in the same boat of newer RBY Lower Tier players bursting on to the scene, but unlike THE_CHUNGLER, his results have been completely localized to NU and only has anything close to impressive in ZU, where he made top 4 in ZU Open I and was a finalist in the RBY ZU Spotlight. Still, RBY Lower Tier skills are largely transferable, and there has never been an RBY lower tier player who was only good in one tier and was incapable of playing well in other lower tiers. He's made it to the finals of 2025's RBY Lower Tier Championship Playoffs, so smart money is that he'll perform well in RBY PU too once he's found his bearings.
ButtGallon
(6-3 RBYPL VI)
[SU Open II Winner, ZU Open I Finalist, UU Open IV Top 4, RBY UU Cup Top 4, 1-3 NUCL III, 2-4 NUFL I]
Another new RBY LT talent, ButtGallon probably has the most real experience with the tier as it currently exists without Rapidash, going 6-3 in RBYPL a month ago (and winning the entire teamtour!) In my subjective opinion, I'd call him as one of the "tier understanders," and an affable person to talk to. ButtGallon has good RBY LT fundamentals as well, he has put up great runs in individuals in the last year despite his lacking team tournament experience at the time. In the situation where you need two people playing RBY, I am confident that ButtGallon is capable of teaching someone RBY PU and building for them, I very much trust his thoughts on the tier.
Zpice
(4-1 RBYPL VI PU, Top 4 PU Open III)
[RBY ZU Open I Winner, Top 4 SU Open II, 3-3 RBYOMPL SU]
Zpice has been in the margins of RBY Lower Tiers for a while now, usually staying in his home of SU. But this year he ventured upwards to other tiers, putting up a 4-1 showing in PU for RBYPL VI, winning RBY ZU Open I, and making it to top 4 of both RBY NU Cup and RBY PU Open III. Unlike the other RBY mainers, he's a flexible player, putting up wins in GSC as well, too.
magialice
(No relevant RBY PU results)
[4-2 UUCL I, 1-6 UUFPL V, RBY C+ Top 6]
Another fresh face in the RBY LT scene, magialice put up a decent showing in UUCL I after a disappointing UUFPL V performance. She's starting for RBY UU in ALTPL as well, kicking off her season with a win. She's learned to play UU at a high level from complete scratch in 2025, and now has shown interest in branching out to other RBY Lower Tiers, like NU and PU. However, unlike hammer798, who I think is imminently going to break out, magialice might have a rocky first venture since her skillset is specialized to UU at the moment and hasn't tried anything else yet. Still, mons is mons, especially so in RBY lower tiers, so there is a very realistic chance she finds her groove in PUCL immediately.
yimb
(0-1 RBYPL VI on sub, Top 8 RBY PU Open III)
[RBY UU RBYPL VI 2-3]
yimb has occasionally popped up in and out of RBY Lower Tiers for years, but this year he showed up and has remained in the spotlight, sticking around long enough to play in RBYPL VI. Initially starting on bench for his first team tournament, he subbed into UU and went 2-3. He also accumulated a large collection of "somewhat impressive results" this year -- Finalist in a 32 player RBY PU Discord tour where he beat torkonpeter (RBY NU RBYPL starter), boomp (RBY PU RBYPL starter), hammer798 (RBY NU RBYPL starter), and GirlsSeeGhosts (RBY OU SPL starter), Top 8 in RBY PU Open III, beating Phil, an RBY Ubers win over Eledyr and Sotina, and was the runner up in the RBY PU RBYPL VI tryouts. He's worth a shot if you want to take your chances on a cheap RBYer.
acluh1
(2025 RBY PU Spotlight Finalist)
[2024 RBY NU Spotlight Finalist)
Like yimb, acluh1 has phased in and out of the RBY Lower Tier scene for some years, really starting to focus on RBY lower tiers in 2025. He hasn't really focused on tournament playing in the past and moreso showed up to play rotational spotlights, making it to the finals 2025's RBY PU spotlight, the finals of 2024's RBY NU spotlight, and going 3-1 in 2025's RBY ZU Spotlight. He also made it to the finals of a 32-man RBY SU discord tournament, only being stopped by THE_CHUNGLER. So far, his only experience in a team tournament is subbing into ADV UU once and winning. If you care about my word, I played him once in RBY UU Cup and he played solidly, taking me to game 3, so I'd vouch for him as a pick.
DD Joe
(1-0 RBY PU PUBD II)
[Top 3 RBY ZU 2025 Spotlight, 0-1 in RBY SU for RBYOMPL]
If you sheetlook this guy's only notable result is that he beat prime Cake in a RBY PU Bo3 and has literally nothing else, but this guy is secretly good at RBY and has only been stopped by being the unluckiest RBYer I have ever seen. One time he 1/256 missed Spore twice in a row. He also has terrible bracket luck, I ended three of his RBY Lower Tier runs, and he made me sweat in all three sets. Most relevantly, he almost beat me in this year's RBY PU Cup but lost due to a last turn Blizzard miss during game 3. Amaranth drafted DD Joe for this year's RBYPL but he never got off the bench because his team's RBY slots put up amazing numbers. DD Joe is probably going to play another gen for this tour, but he is no slouch in RBY and can easily sub in or even start.
PHB11677
(1-6 RBYPL VI)
[1-0 RBY Ubers ALTPL IV]
PHB is a very, very, fresh face to competitive mons in general, so he doesn't have a real long list of notable accomplishments in RBY, barring a win in ALTPL IV where he subbed into RBY Ubers and beat Premonitions. He also subbed into GSC OU and beat tylerkehne for GSCPL. His first real team tournament ended in an unimpressive 1-6 record, but according to his team members, PHB was a very active and enthusiastic team member. Still, he probably needs to put up some more results in RBY individuals before I'd feel comfortable drafting him over the other options.
If I haven't mentioned you there are three possible reasons:
1) I think you will get thrashed by the lower end of the pool
2) You are a CG player and I am unfamiliar with your game
3) Your name is Theycallmephil and are a manager so you can't be drafted.
