XY OU Pure Gen 3 pokemon OU Team

Hey guys. I'm really psyched about pokemon omega ruby and alpha sapphire games coming out soon, my first pokemon game was actually ruby when I was younger. With this in mind, I decided to do a team made of only generation 3 pokemon. I wanted to make sure I included my favorite pokemon from that era: sableye, ludicolo, and shedninja. It has turned out to be surprisingly viable in the OU metagame. Please keep in mind that this team is not meant to be a gimmick team. All suggestions and advice are appreciated. Thank you.

clarence (Sableye) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Taunt
- Knock Off

When I first played ruby, my favorite pokemon was sableye, I thought it was the coolest pokemon ever, especially when I found out it had no type weaknesses. However, back then sabeleye wasn't a very good pokemon so I was'nt able to use it well, but now that it has prankster this second time around, I plan on using him to his fullest potential. I named him clarence because clarence seems like a name a scumbag would have (for example Clarence Thomas of the supreme court who was a major scumbag), no offense to anyone named clarence, and admittedly, sableye is kind of a scumbag, he spreads statuses and annoys the hell out of any team I face. I decided to run knock off because it is more of an annoyance to the other team than foul play.

gohst (Shedinja) @ Choice Band
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Will-o-Wisp
- shadow claw
- Shadow Sneak
- X-Scissor

Shedinja is tied with sableye and ludicolo for being my favorite pokemon ever. I played around with a few sets (especially the focus sash variant) before settling with this one. I usually switch in one a poke, hit the switch hard, and then switch out, it also works surprisingly well as a pseudo revenge killer. I decided to run it over the focus sash variant because even though requires great move set predictions, I usually end up predicting correctly and using shedinja to its fullest potential.

Fierce Doge (Salamence) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Return

This pokemon is my actual revenge killer. Moxie plus a choice scarf is a threatening set and if the other team doesn't shut it down quickly, my salamence ends up wrecking their whole team. Along with using Salamence as a revenge killer, I also use it as a late-game sweeper for the same reason as said previously. I decided to run return over outrage because outrage's confusion ended usually working against me when I tried late game sweeping and return usually works well as a sweeping move because of it's nearly perfect coverage.

wowe (Milotic) @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Dragon Tail

Milotic is my defensive wall. Even though it has a higher special defense stat, I put it as my defensive wall because its typing suits it better for the defensive side. Also, my special was already set aside for Ludicolo. I decided to run dragon tail over substitute or toxic because my team desperately needed something that would shut down boosters. Milotic has proved to be useful to soak up hits and retaliate with a decent special attack stat.

Mirror B (Ludicolo) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Protect
- Ice Beam

Whenever I send out Ludicolo, I always hear Mirror B's theme from Pokemon Colluseum in my head. Ever since I faced pokemon's Michael Jackson and his team of dancing Ludicolo's I have loved the mexican platypus for its dancing swagger. It also works surprisingly well as a special wall with its sub seed set. Leech seed also helps force switches against ludicolo giving him a free turn to set up substitutes or predict switches and switch out to a different team member. Ice beam is used as coverage against grass types and Sap Sippers (Goodra) who are immune to leech seed

Birdie (Swellow) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Facade
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Defog

Because my team lacked offensive presence and shedninja desperately needed hazard control, I decided to use Swellow as an offensive "spinner" forcing switches against its mighty force and using the free turn to defog before U-turning out to a bulkier pokemon. It's blazingly high speed stat also helps it be a blazingly fast late game cleaner if my salamence gets taken out early.

Thank you for taking the time to read this set, I would love feedback on how I could improve this team, I am willing to change sets for any pokes and am willing to trade out poke's as long as it benefits my team.

An ode to Gen 3 and ORAS (coming soon to a Gamestop near you)

Anyways like the concept and the team, however, improvements can be made.

1. Shedninja: Instead of running CB, why not run Safety Goggles? This allows you to survive Sandstorm and Hail; while also affording you the opportunity to run Swords Dance > Shadow Claw.

2. Swellow: Dude Latios and Latias were around in Gen 3; you would have to have ABSOLUTELY hated them in order to ignore them. Since your team lacks a Overt Special attacker; Latios should suffice:

Latios @ Life Orb
EV: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Levitate
Timid Nature
IV: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt

Standard Latios set with the exception of TBolt, which is meant for Azumarill as Azumarill be granted Fairy Typing and Play Rough makes being a Dragon a tough proposition.

Those are my suggestions... for now... as Mega Salamence would be awesome for this team ^_^

Let me know what you think.

Thank you so much for being willing to help my team out. I took your advice and changed my shedinja set and it's working great. I agree that latios/latias would definitely better than swellow for this team, however for some reason I personally hate using legendaries on my team. Can you think of any other pokemon that could work similarly to latios/latias for this team?

Does your 3rd Gen team want to include things from previous gens? I was thinking about using Honchkrow in place of Swellow. I'll provide more input once I get your clarity. (:

How about this:

Flygon @ Leftovers
EV: 248 HP / 20 Atk / 104 Def / 136 Spe
Ability: Levitate
Jolly Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Earthquake
- U-Turn

Tell me what you think.

Sorry, I was worried that that wouldn't be clear :p, I only plan on using pokemons introduced in 3rd gen. Also, maybe instead of getting rid of swellow because its been doing work in almost all of my matches, I could change salamence with a revenge special sweeper?

I like the idea of flygon, but I still would lack a special attacker :/ also, what role would this set fill? although this set is bulky, it wouldn't have much offensive presence.
edit: I also wanted to add that as a kid I loved flagon and was apathetic to salamence, but neither would fit as a special sweeper/revenge killer on my team :/

If you wanna keep Swellow but would feel that you would benefit from a special attacker then why not go with the obvious:

Manectric @ Manectite
EV: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Ability: Intimidate
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- HP Ice

Seems pretty solid an answer to your question.

What do you think.

haha wow, I completely overlooked manectric. Thanks, I'll put him in over salamence and see how it goes. Do you have any other suggestions for my team?
edit: also, what do you think about lightning rod vs intimidate, wouldn't lightning rod be more useful for a sweeper?

Use Intimidate over Lightningrod. It does more in the long-run in terms of effectiveness. By lowering their Attack by one stage, it will take off a good amount of physical damage. As a consequence, you may be able to survive a fatal attack.

wait manectric doesn't have intimidate, just its mega XD i'm going to stick with lightning rod for the un-evolved form just for a free boost before mega evolving into intimidate :)
