apparently between last night and this morning the downloadable version of showdown was removed.

id doesnt have to be on the front page but its unfair to remove a valid option just because you view it as suboptimal. if i want to use a suboptimal executable vs a browser game that should be my choice. its like saying "you can only use discord in browser now" despite a functional program existing.

i legit will not play the browser version. and now i cant install the program on my PC cause it has suddenly vanished over one persons forum post.

I think it is not updated to the point of usability, someone said. If they are at different version you could not match people in the other version. Why will you not use the website?

it's a preference thing. i just dont like using browser sources if theres an app option. which there was when i was looking into this last night.

For those who really want to use the application, a dedicated user can find copies of it with a bit of digging (you can find the download link in archive.org snapshots). However, I really wouldn't recommend it. The desktop app has not been updated in years and is missing possibly essential features that were implemented during that time. We can't in good faith provide a download link to an outdated application, and are not able to easily update it either right now.

A discussion with Zarel this morning lead to us removing the download link for the downloadable client. The reason for this is because the client is over 900 commits out of date and would require significant work to restore it, namely a refactor from NW.js to Electron. This is a bunch of work when those that would be capable of doing it are busy with higher priority items. So, in the interm we removed the link to reduce the number of issues users have from running an outdated client. The plan at this time is to restore it in the future when we can keep it equal with the web client.
