Pyroak is near unviable in the CAP metagame due to it being outclassed by other common walls like Ferrothorn and Mandibuzz. Addtionally, its overall passive nature means its effectively set up bait for sweepers like Clefable and Reuniclus. However, Pyroak manages to find a small niche in CAP because of its unique typing and defensive stats. Lava Plume allows Pyroak to threaten physical attackers via a crippling burn. Earth Power hits potential switch-ins super effectively such as Toxapex. Much like Lava Plume, Toxic grants Pyroak the ability to cripple opposing switch-ins like Tomohawk. Alternatively, if Pyroaks team lacks a Stealth Rock user, Pyroak can fulfill this role. Synthesis is a necessity if Pyroak wants to be able to tank hits. 248 HP and 252 Special Defense EVs with a Calm nature allows Pyroak to tank moves from offensive threats such as Equilibra. Alternatively, Pyroak can also run 248 HP and 252 Defense EVs to check pokemon such as Zeraora and Colossoil.
Pyroark finds itself on balanced and defensive teams that need a dedicated Electric-type check. Because of this, offensive pokemon weak to Electric-types such as Naviathan, Keldeo, and Dracovish all pair well with Pyroak. Pokemon that can absorb status for Pyroak are important for keeping it healthy so pokemon such as Clefable, Colossoil, and Krillowat all make good teammates. Pyroak appreciates support from hazard removers due to its weakness to Stealth Rocks so pokemon such as Corviknight, Mandibuzz, and Tomohawk. all pair well with it. Addtionally, Pyroak appreciates pokemon that can cover its Flying-type weakness such as Ferrothorn, Rotom-wash, and Cyclohm.
