Walking Wake @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 132 HP / 116 Def / 36 SpA / 224 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
- Flamethrower
- Aqua Jet / Hurricane

Cap'n Walking Wake has anchored many-a 1v1 team this generation thanks to its great all-around stats and a strong typing. With the HP investment, Walking Wake takes a Hyper Beam to the face from Choice Specs Volcanion and with the defense investment it also survives Wicked Blow + Sucker Punch from unboosted Urshifu. All the while, Walking Wake outspeeds Landorus-T so that it doesn't get KOed by Choice Band Outrage. For the last slot, Aqua Jet can pick off Unburden Sneasler and Custap Berry Urshifu, or Hurricane can deal with Rillaboom and most Ogerpon-W. To find success with this Walking Wake set, consider taking advantage of its strong synergy with Steel- and Fairy-types like Iron Crown, Metagross, Sylveon, and Alolan Ninetales. Pokemon that can cover for Hoopa-U and specially defensive Pecharunt like Ursaluna, Scizor, or Volcarona also help Walking Wake sail the high seas.

Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
- Flamethrower
- Aqua Jet (where is hurricane? did you just like make an arbitrary decision not to include it? it still does really well against non-leech wellspring so it's definitely something to be considered, not consistent but an option, it's also good for annihilape and rillaboom.)

Cap'n Walking Wake has anchored many-a 1v1 team this generation. With great all-around stats and a strong typing, Walking Wake patches the weaknesses of a few classes of Pokemon well. First and foremost, it has good synergy with Steel-types like Corviknight, Metagross, and Iron Crown. These Pokemon cover for Walking Wake's rough matchups against opposing Fairy-types (strikes me as odd that we've been doing examples for every "X-types" and not this one) in exchange for safety against Fire- and Ground-types like Skeledirge and Ursaluna. With the sample EV spread, Walking Wake can also cover Sneasler and both Urshifu formes for them. It survives Wicked Blow + Sucker Punch from Assault Vest Urshifu while 2HKOing with Hydro Pump + Draco Meteor (why are we specifying AV urshifu?? you beat every urshifu that's not life orb). It also picks off Unburden Sneasler with Draco Meteor + Aqua Jet. Beyond Steel-types, Walking Wake pairs nicely with Fairy-types like Iron Valiant and Alolan Ninetales because it defuses their Fire- and Steel-type counters, such as Volcarona and Corviknight. Walking Wake teams struggles against specially defensive Pecharunt and Hoopa-U, but so do practically all potential partners. Scizor is a notable exception to this rule; maybe those two aren't Cap'n Wake's white whales after all...

(I had no better spot to include this but I had to go back to check the benches on this and sure enough there's not a single mention of Volcanion or Landorus-T on this spotlight, which I think illustrates the issue I have with it which is its weird hyperfixation in teammates [which don't get me wrong, it's awesome, given it's a 1v1 spotlight] but at the same time sacrifices a bit of the idea of a spotlight itself which is to highlight the set and what it does, instead, by focusing in partners for wake, you end up not even mentioning all the benches, and even omitting a move in order to get under the 1k character limit, aside from all of this criticism though, it's a really good spotlight, and I hope I'm not demotivating anything from you by saying these sorta harsh things.)

there's definitely more i want to add so hmu on cord, i understand if you disagree with my points.

To find success with this Walking Wake set, consider taking advantage of its strong synergy with Steel-, Fairy-, and Fire-types like Iron Crown, Metagross, Sylveon, and Alolan Ninetales (probably mention a fire-type here if possible). Strong partners for Walking Wake can also include Pokemon that can cover for Hoopa-U and specially defensive Pecharunt like Ursaluna, Scizor, or Volcarona.
most other things i might say are gp things so gg QC 1/1
