AG [QC 1/2] Specially Defensive Mandibuzz

[SET]
Specially Defensive (Mandibuzz) @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Mental Herb
Ability: Overcoat
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Toxic
- Whirlwind / Defog
- Foul Play / Knock Off

[SET COMMENTS]
Mandibuzz is one of stall's best Calyrex-S checks, utilizing its Dark typing, special bulk, and access to reliable recovery in Roost to wall all Calyrex-S sets, bar Tera Fairy. Toxic puts opposing Pokemon on a timer, significantly crippling them by limiting how much they can set up. Defog is a form of emergency hazard control, especially useful against opposing Knock Off Pokemon, yet Mandibuzz also removes its own team's hazards while using it. Foul Play discourages physical attackers from setting up against Mandibuzz. Alternatively, Knock Off can remove opposing Heavy-Duty Boots, making it much easier to chip down opposing Pokemon with the Spikes and Toxic Spikes its teammates set. Whirlwind phazes setup threats like Arceus, while Defog can be used as an emergency form of hazard removal. Tera Poison grants Mandibuzz a 100% accurate Toxic, allowing it to check Draining Kiss Calyrex-S, as well as Arceus-Fairy, and gives Mandibuzz a Toxic immunity and the ability to absorb Toxic Spikes. Heavy-Duty Boots offers Mandibuzz an immunity to Stealth Rock, while Mental Herb allows Mandibuzz to use Toxic against Taunt Calyrex-S. Mandibuzz has to compete with Alolan Muk for a slot, another Dark-type Calyrex-S check that is much better equipped to deal with Tera Fairy Calyrex-S. However, Mandibuzz has reliable recovery in Roost, unlike Alolan Muk, whose Rest is shut down by Electric Terrain.

Teammates like Dondozo, Skeledirge, and Gliscor appreciate having a reliable switch-in to Calyrex-S, while Blissey also appreciates having a fallback method when facing Psyshock variations of Calyrex-S. As Mandibuzz is forced out by the threat of Miraidon's Electro Drift, it enjoys having teammates like Tera Grass Ho-Oh, Clodsire, and Blissey, who absorb Miraidon's attacks far better than any other stall Pokemon in the tier. Arceus-Fairy’s super-effective Judgment poses a great threat to Mandibuzz, forcing it to switch out to teammates like Clodsire, whose Poison- typing and access to Toxic make it an excellent check to Arceus-Fairy. Mandibuzz is also very vulnerable to Zacian-C, who is immune to its Toxic and resists Knock Off, as well as having the capability to OHKO Mandibuzz with Play Rough. Thus, teammates like Skeledirge, Dondozo, and Alomomola work very well with Mandibuzz, as both Skeledirge and Dondozo can fully ignore Zacian-C's Swords Dance boosts with Unaware, and Skeledirge can cripple Zacian-C with Will-O-Wisp, while Alomomola can use its great physical bulk and access to Scald to punish Zacian-C.

Checks and Counters

===================

**Zacian-C**: Zacian-C is immune to Mandibuzz's status moves and resists Knock Off. It is also capable of OHKOing Mandibuzz with Play Rough.

**Miraidon**: Miraidon can OHKO Mandibuzz with Electro Drift, and does great damage to the point where it can no longer check Calyrex-S even after Terastallization.

**Hatterene** Hatterene’s Magic Bounce grants it an immunity to Mandibuzz’s Toxic, while it can use Calm Mind in combination with Draining Kiss to deal significant damage to Mandibuzz, healing itself in the process.

**Gliscor** Gliscor’s Knock Off poses a significant threat to Mandibuzz, as removing Heavy-Duty Boots causes Mandibuzz to be much more vulnerable to Stealth Rock, thus making it much harder for it to switch in.

(i feel like fog seems counterintuitive given how removing your own hazards helps the opponent more and losing boots is honestly playing issue. ww might have more use)

However, Mandibuzz's access to Defog distinguishes it. (mandi having fog doesnt make a difference in 90% of cases, it's having a more consistent recovery that isnt shut down by eterrain. also mention abt tera poison somewhere, and can probably tell that it still doesnt help if caly has taunt but might be useful in checking cm fairyceus or stuff in a pinch. don't forget to write about whirlwind too)

(mention arceus-fairy too perhaps) Mandibuzz is also very vulnerable to Zacian-C, who is immune to its Toxic and resists both Foul Play and Knock Off, as well as having the capability to OHKO Mandibuzz with Play Rough. (foul play still does quite a bunch so idt it really wants to get in for free or SD) Thus, teammates like Skeledirge, Dondozo, and Alomomola work very well with Mandibuzz, as it can fully ignore Zacian-C's Swords Dance boosts with Unaware and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp. (mola doesnt get unaware and ur saying "it" while referring to more than one mon?)

Foul Play discourages physical attackers from setting up against Mandibuzz, while, alternatively, Knock Off can remove opposing Heavy-Duty Boots, making it much easier to chip down opposing Pokemon with the Spikes and Toxic Spikes its teammates set. Whirlwind fazes setup threats like Arceus, while Defog can be used as an emergency form of hazard removal. Though, due to Defog removing Mandibuzz’s teammate’s hazards, it is less common than Whirlwind. (Both Defog and Whirlwind are valid options and Defog is more common than whirlwind on ladder, I would also mention something here about how defog allows mandibuzz to switch in on Ting-Lu and prevent it from getting hazards up) Tera Poison gives Mandibuzz a 100% accurate Toxic, hitting targets like Draining Kiss Calyrex-S lacking Taunt and Calm Mind Arceus-Fairy. (I would change the wording here to say that tera poison allows Mandibuzz to check Draining Kiss Calyrex-Shadow Lacking taunt and Arceus-Fairy, I would also mention something about Tera poison giving mandibuzz a Toxic immunity and giving it the ability to absorb toxic spikes.) Mandibuzz also has to compete with Alolan Muk for a slot, another Dark-type Calyrex-S check that is much better equipped to deal with Tera Fairy Calyrex-S. (I would mention something here about Mandibuzz having more reliable recovery than Alolan Muk that isn't shut down by electric terrain.)

(I Would mention Clodsire as a miraidon switch-in) Arceus-Fairy’s super effective Judgment poses a great threat to Mandibuzz, forcing it to switch out to teammates like Clodsire, whose Poison- typing and access to both Toxic and Toxic Spikes makes it an excellent check to Arceus-Fairy. (Toxic Spikes is less relevent in checking arceus fairy and a majority of clodsire don't run tspikes anyways.) Mandibuzz is also very vulnerable to Zacian-C, who is immune to its Toxic and resists Knock Off, as well as having the capability to OHKO Mandibuzz with Play Rough.
