Hello Smogon goers, my name is Def Jam as you can clearly see, and this is my RMT. I used to play a lot back when D/P/Pt was popular (Gen IV), and am just recently getting back into the competitive scene. I've been having a lot of trouble teambuilding this generation since I most of the threats are new to me, however I have played extensively with this team (I peaked around 2033 in the OU(current) ladder on PS) so this isn't just something I threw together. Well, without further ado, teambuilding!
Jolteon has always been my favoite Pokemon, So I wanted to make a team with him on it. (I know that's a lame reason but that's why I chose it)
Next I needed something to take ground type moves and tank hits, so I chose to add a Gliscor. I also needed a steel type to take dragon type hits and anything Gliscor couldn't handle (mainly ice type attacks) So I threw in the lovely Jirachi.
The monster and revenge killer, I put a choice scarfed MoxieMence on a few of my other teams I made before this one and he always ended up netting me a sweep, so I figured why not put him on my Hyper Offensive Team.
Next I needed a way to combat the ever present entry hazards of the Pokemon metagame, so I went with a mon that had water resistance, rapid spin and offensive presence.
This guy, Entei, The Legendary Fire Dog. I had a Garchomp/MoxieHeracross instead of this and Salamence but I wanted a fire type and an answer to Weather teams, so I went with this and it's probably the poke I wouldn't want to change at all.
Jolteon @ Air Balloon
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Signal Beam
For this Jolteon I chose a rather un-unique set. Most of this set is self explanatory, so I'll stick to it's place on my team. With an immunity to electric type attacks it can gain an easy switch into battle against thunderbolts t-waves and thunders(mostly against rain teams.) However, this is usually not how it enters, as most of my other pokes attract different types of attacks, such as ice and water. Usually it doesn't get and easy switch in and comes in after a poke faints, which sucks. Air Balloon lets it come in on Eq and other ground moves. Volt Switch is here to keep momentum while doing damage, but not hitting grounds is sometimes a problem. Thunderbolt is for powerful STAB over Thunder, since I don't run rain dance or Politoed. HP Ice hits Dragons and grass for SE Damage and Signal beam is deffinately replaceable, it hardley ever nets me any advantages. The EV's on this set are to max out speed and sweeping potential.
Gliscor @ Flying Gem
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 184 HP / 252 Atk / 72 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Taunt
This set is more or less a gimmick. I hate to say it, but it is. Gliscor is also, more often than not, my lead. Opponents usually assume a Toxic Orb set or think I'm setting up SR so I can usually net a KO with a flying gem Acrobatics, or I can stop their setup with taunt, outspeeding such things as Hippowdon, minimum speed Skarm, and other slower mons trying to set up. This usually ends up being my wall to come in on physical hits from pokes such as scizor, but it can't do anything to Scizor after that. The EV's are more or less standard(I think). To be honest, I'm thinking about switching this Poke with a scarf Landy-T to keep up momentum and hit hard, since they have the same typing and resistances, but the unexpected nature of this poke's set has led me to keep it for now.
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 80 HP / 176 Atk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Meteor Mash
- Wish
Jirachi Is such a cutie pie! But can also be a devastating threat. This Jirachi is on my team for Stealth Rocks setup, which is considered by many to be the best move in the game.Apart from setting up rocks, It also acts as a wisher, which even without Protect gives some reliable healing to my team. I decided to put U-turn on this set to keep momentum going and hit grass/psychic/dark types for some damage. I had Ice Punch over meteor mash for SE damage against dragons but it was pretty much useless, so I put meteor mash on her for the STAB and high damage and to hit rock types harder on the switch. The ATK Boost is also helpful when I get it, since serene grace gives it a better chance of happening, and works better than I thought with U-turn, even though that means giving up the boost. This is the pokemon that I send in on ice attacks and other resists, and sometimes water(even though scald destroys Jirachi's potential.) Leftovers is to give Jirachi more longevity. The EV's are to max out speed witch is important in this set to hit uturns faster, and to have some attack while still retaining a little bulk.
Starmie @ Choice Specs
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 76 HP / 180 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
Starmie used to have leftovers but I decided to switch that for specs since this isn't a bulky set and I'm not running recovery. This is my spinner, at max speed to make sure rocks and hazards stay off the field, this isn't always the case but hey, she still does a great job. Specs allows her to hit most spin blockers hard on the switch and 2 or 3 hit KO them. Surf is for stab over hydro pump for the security of the accuracy, and boltbeam get devastating coverage. This is usually my answer to a status move prediction or water/psychic attacks, or I to switch in if I know the opponent is going to set up which usually forces a switch. I can't emphasize enough the importance of Rapid Spin on this team and mostly to my playstyle.
Salamence @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Hasty Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
MoxieMence. This thing is a monster. The set is a standard Smogon Strategy Dex set, but I still feel the need to explain it's raw power. This doesn't always KO opposing pokemon, but more often than not it does it's job wonderfully. Coming in the with scarf to finish off a weak pokemon, and getting an atk boost at the same time is devastating. If it forces a switch that if gets a free attack off and can possibly 2hko the poke that comes int, again gaining itself an attack boost. I chose to go with a max speed stat over max attack to outspeed opposing base 100 scarfers, I figured since it can gain an easy atk boost it can give up some atk (which I sometimes prefer), but the lack of attack power is deffinately noticable, so I'm not sure which one I should stick with. Dragon Claw is the main line of attack, providing good damage, STAB and moderately good coverage. Outrage is for when Dragon Claw won't cut it and I need the extra power. EQ is for coverage and it's massive damage, and fire blast is for the ever annoying ferrothorn who walls this and pretty much any other team, excluding some sun teams.
Entei @ Heat Rock
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- ExtremeSpeed
- Flare Blitz
- Sunny Day
- Toxic
This set started off as a standard ESpeed Entei for revenge killing, but then I decided to try out something different. While still keeping the ev's and nature(which is necessary with ESpeed since it's an event pokemon), I decided I needed a way to combat weather without using Politoed/Ninetails/TTar/Hippo/or Abomasnow. I threw on Sunny day with a heat rock for extra Sunny Day turns. Toxic is to throw at bulky walls that come in on Entei such as Hippo after he Sunny Day's which wears them down and make it easier for me to win the weather war. I'm fine without eternal sunshine, I'm not really looking for a sun team, just a legitamate way to beat weather threats. ESpeed and Flare Blitz gets pretty good coverage especially with FB STAB, but Entei gets worn down easily because of it. His main job is to get weather to my advantage and after I win the war I'm happy with him, so I'm not really looking to change this set drastically. I wanted max speed on him too but the adamant nature is forced which is okay, I just need to be mindful of that. Pokemon Movie 3 was also my favorite growing up :3
Well,
That's my team. I'd like very much to improve it and possibly add better synergy, for it seems to be lacking no matter what I try. I'll try to get to a better threats list later but for now;
Ferrothorn: AKA the bane of my existenence. This thing murders me, no matter what set it is, and especially in the rain.
Edit:
Importable!

Team Building
I'd been playing for a few weeks or so and I decided that I wanted to make a Hyper Offensive Team to combat the likes of stall teams or just common walls, such as; Ferrothorn (The bane of my existence), Dragonite, Cloyster and so on.

In Depth
Let me be clear that I am looking and hoping for suggestions and am willing to change some pokes out or change their sets, I've switched up pokes to try and get better synergy but it always seems lacking.
