Ragequit Alert - An RU Baton Pass team

In my opinion, Baton Pass has become less viable in the upper tiers with the proliferation of Perish Song and phazing, and NU does not have too many good users of the strategy. However, RU is the ideal arena for a Baton Pass team, and it can cause frustration and lots of ragequits.

Drifblim @ Leftovers
Trait: Aftermath
EVs: 252 SDef / 248 HP / 8 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Amnesia
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
- Shadow Ball

Drifblim's main job on the team is to pass Substitutes to less bulky team members and later to set up Special Defense boosts with Amnesia. I normally lead with it to pass a Substitute and perhaps a Sp. Def boost to Smeargle.

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Trait: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Ingrain
- Baton Pass
- Spore
- Taunt

Smeargle, being the only Pokemon who can Baton Pass Ingrain, is crucial to both the chain's longevity and to avoid phazing. Spore is to give it time to set up Ingrain - which, with Smeargle's lack of bulk, is more important than you might think - and Taunt to, well, avoid Taunt.

Gorebyss @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Baton Pass
- Substitute
- Barrier
- Surf

Though SmashPassing is illegal in the lower tiers, Gorebyss has good defensive stats and access to Substitute and Barrier, meaning that it can take a defensive role as well. Substitute's damage is healed in two turns with Ingrain and Leftovers, and is almost entirely healed when Aqua Ring is added as well.

[pimg]424[/pimg]

Floatzel @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Veil
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Aqua Ring
- Taunt
- Baton Pass
- Waterfall

Apart from Vaporeon, Floatzel is the only Pokemon that can Baton Pass Aqua Ring, basically ensuring 3/16ths of total HP recovery per turn, and 1/8 without Leftovers. This nullifies Life Orb recoil, which will be important later.

[pimg]256[/pimg]

Combusken @ Eviolite
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Work Up
- Baton Pass
- Agility
- Flare Blitz

Baton Pass is illegal with Speed Boost, but with +6 to both defenses, an Eviolite, and Ingrain and Aqua Ring healing, it doesn't matter; Combusken can use Work Up to boost offenses, and Agility for Speed. I haven't had to use Flare Blitz yet.

[pimg]254[/pimg]

Sceptile @ Life Orb
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Giga Drain
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Focus Blast

The only viable mixed sweeper in the tier (if you know another, please tell me); Sceptile! Life Orb recoil is nullified by both Aqua Ring and Ingrain, and there's no real need to explain the attacks; Giga Drain for STAB, EdgeQuake (or rather SlideQuake) for coverage, and Focus Blast lets it hit nearly everything super effectively.

I would say that Eelektross has the potential to be an okay mixed sweeper, but that's just me. Haven't run the numbers much yet. Pimp Daddy E's speed is problematic, though...

Perish song users completely shut down this team.

Cinccino can also spell a death sentence on you, with multi-hit moves breaking through subs in the early chain.

It is a high risk high reward team, but I can see it being harder to actually pull off than stop. You could provide some replays also :)

I haven't actually seen any users of Perish Song in this tier, possibly because Baton Pass chains aren't too common. As for Cinccino, I can normally get a Barrier boost or two before that happens.

I can't provide replays because everyone who has fought against the team has quit because of my +6 defenses and constant recovery.

To fix your problem with roar/perish song (you say you don't have one, but if it ever shows up) you can replace gorebyss with Mr. Mime. He also has barrier and substitute, and as long as you switch him into a special attacker to start setting up you should be fine. This is because he has 40/65/120 defenses, but this is not too much less than gorebyss who wields 55/105/75 defenses.

Even with a Barrier up (Gorebyss), I'm afraid Cinccino's bullet seed would either OHKO or 2HKO, and break your sub.

What I mean is, looking at your team (team preview), if I had a Cinccino I would probably either lead with him, or see what you lead with then switch to him. He outspeeds everyone in your team, except Sceptile.

I would probably lead with something that can kill Sceptile, and either:

a) You saw my Cinccino and you went ahead with Sceptile to Focus Blast him. Since I lead with a counter to your Sceptile, your Sceptile either dies (ending the game for you) or you switch. *

b) You don't lead with Sceptile, even tho you saw my Cinccino. I switch to Cinccino on the first turn and proceed to stop your team. Rock Blast KOs Blaziken and Drifblim, even after a Sub. Bullet Seed KOs Gorebyss and Floatzel. Tail Slap, while inaccurate, if it hit, would KO Smeargle (maybe rockblast would KO it too, depending on EVs and items).

* If you switch at a) I would probably switch the next turn too, which would lead to point b).

This is how I see Cinccino being a major problem to your team. Of course, lucks plays a factor here, but he can almost shut down your team all alone, bar Sceptile
