ORAS OU Raikou and Associates

One of the first teams I've made on showdown. I tried going against the Meta a bit, but it could still use some work. I'd like more unusual movesets and strategies.
It's basically a fully offensive build, trying to counter all types rather than countering stuff like environmental hazzards, substitute, protect etc. Although I think I might come up with some counters for those for now it's all about Raikou and his weather ball.

065.gif

Shazam (Alakazam) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
Shazam is here to protect us from a whole bunch of scary threats. With those big speed and special attack stats it gets rid of quite a lot of pesky pokémon in OU. Basically a fast sweeper, but I usually just switch him in when it's time to "bring out the big guns".

485.gif

Bernard (Heatran) (M) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpA
Mild Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge
- Iron Head
I used to have Camerupt in this slot, but then I realised that Camerupt is pretty bad. Bernard counters pesky fairies, anything that burns and a whole lot more. It's basically just there to get rid of any threats that aren't countered by other pokémon in the team and be a bulky powerhouse.

130.gif

Gyary (Gyarados) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Outrage
- Ice Fang
Gyarados is the best dragon I could think of for my team, because it's not a dragon. I might lack any flying attacks in my entire team but this guy just comes in to save the day every time. Right now this is my best counter against all those dragon types in OU.

243.gif

Raikou @ Expert Belt
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Thunder
- Rain Dance
- Aura Sphere
- Weather Ball
This here is my main man, Raikou. I freakin love Raikou, it's one of my favourite pokémon. That's why I built this team around it. Weather ball is always a big surprise to people, and that works to my advantage all the time. I usually set up rain with Politoed's drizzle, but I gave Raikou Rain Dance just in case. With these moves Raikou's coverage is pretty wide, but it's mostly useful to sweep gullible opponents who think they can come in with their ground types to get rid of my dear Raikou.

359-mega.gif

Absol-ute Disaster (Absol) (M) @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 32 SpA / 224 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower
- Ice Beam
Mega Absol, because I love absol. I chose mega absol over alakazam mostly because absol becomes so much more useful with the speed increase it gains after mega evolving. Once again, another offensive build. An essential counter to a variety of types.

186.gif

Wilson (Politoed) (M) @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Hypnosis
- Encore
- Rest
Politoed was chosen solely because it can have Drizzle. From that point I figured I'd give Wilson some stalling moves since I didn't have any yet. Politoed breaks away from the trend of a full offensive team, but its utility is necessary.

It's all about the raikou! I'm thinking of giving Politoed Hail and speed EVs.
Please, go ahead and criticise me. That's what I'm here for ;)

Hi Yiam, nice team you have! I have a few things to suggest for your team.

M-Altaria with EQ looks like a huge threat to your team. Because of this, I would suggest Skarmory > Politoed. As you say that Politoed is a more bulky mon for the team, Skarm can fill the role much better. Skarmory also provides hazard removal for your team, which Gyarados and constant switching appreciates. Skarmory can also lay up some hazards for you, which you don't have any of yet. I'll leave the Skarmory set down below with all the other sets.

485.png
For Heatran, first thing I can say is Flash Cannon > Iron Head. With Heatran's much higher SpAtk stat, it'll hit a lot harder. You can also give Heatran Modest Nature and no attack EVs because Stone Edge still hits the targets its intended to hit. Also, if you want to hit a little harder with this monster, I would suggest Fire Blast > Magma Storm. Fire Blast has better accuracy (surprisingly) and also 10 more base power.

0- Atk Heatran Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Talonflame: 316-372 (106.3 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0- Atk Heatran Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 292-344 (98.3 - 115.8%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

130.png
Kinda iffy about using Outrage on this guy, as it isn't used very often on it. Stick with it for now, I say.

243.png
To be honest, I wouldn't use Weather Ball on this mon. You already have Gyara providing water coverage. I would suggest a Sub-CM set, which would give you another set-up sweeper that can clean up late-game. I'll leave the set below.

359-m.png
If you are going to run Ice Beam on Absol, run a Naive Nature > Jolly Nature. The EV spread looks okay. I'm debating whether to put Fire Blast > Superpower, but I think it's okay as it is now. I would suggest trying out Fire Blast and if you don't like it, stick with Superpower.

Mind adding an importable of the team? If you didn't know, go to your team, and then click "Import/Export", and copy-paste the whole thing. I would also suggest adding replays, but the replay system is down at the moment.

Hope I helped!!

Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge

Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Roost
- Stealth Rock
- Brave Bird

Absol @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 32 SpA / 224 Spe
Naive Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Superpower
- Ice Beam

OR

Absol @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 32 SpA / 224 Spe
Naive Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam

If you're iffy about using 3 leftovers users, you could switch Gyarados's item to Expert Belt or Life Orb, but I would say you can just keep 3 lefties users.

Hi Yiam! Your team as a few sub optimal sets and could use some overall fixing, but doesn't mean your team is bad at all.

I agree with most of the things that the person above me said but I have a few other things to add.

130.png
Gyarados is a very underrated mon in the OU tier is a really fun one to play with. Outrage is kind of a waste of a move slot as what does it hit that Ice Fang doesn't accomplish? So, as a replacement I would suggest Substitute > Outrage. Substitute allows you to set up on pokemon that are less capable at attacking (Walls) and if you want to make a play, can allow you to set up a free substitute when an opposing mon trys to status you. This can allow for an easier sweep and greater wall breaking potential. Also change Jolly>Adamant, allowing you to be faster in general.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute

485.png
Another thing that I would change is changing this from a powerful attack, I would suggest making it a SeDef Wall, as this allows you to take on many electric types that are the bane of Gyarados. While you lose a lot of power you still have Alakazam to revenge kill and dish out lots of damage. Also, It gives you Stealth Rocks, helping you widdle down your opponent and ensure some knockouts.
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Stone Edge

243.png
I agree with what the person above said, but I think that you should use a Life Orb Raikou, as this gives you some immediate power coupled with Raikou's strong speed.

Raikou @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball
359-m.png
I know you said that you love this pokemon, but I think it doesn't fit into your team perfectly. I am going to suggest Mega Scizor > Mega Absol. Though I'm asking you to lose one of your favorites I think that Mega Scizor can help you out a lot, while still keeping the offensive nature of the team. I think that a Fast Mega Scizor can benefit your team. This can check Mega Altaria, Weavile and other fairys that can be scary for you. This also provides U-Turn which can help you create some momentum and pairs great with Raikou, creating a Volt-Turn combonation, specifically benefiting Alakazam, as it is unable to take many attacks

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Roost

186.png
With you Raikou set being changed, Politoad now has little to no purpose and doesn't suit your team any more. With this, I suggest that you change to Mixed Defensive Mandibuzz, as it helps take out threats that can manhandle your team, such as Keldeo. This also provides you with a form of Hazard control in Defog.
Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 108 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Taunt
- Defog

That should be enough, ask for more if you'd like! Here's the final team:
Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Roost

Raikou @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Stone Edge

Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 108 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Taunt
- Defog

Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Focus Blast

Hope I helped, and good luck!

Absollite Classicly Thanks for the feedback. I don't think I explained it well enough. This team is built around weather ball Raikou, and the niche that weather ball raikou has is that it is very unexpected. Weather ball does monstrous damage in rain and I can use raikou to lure in ground types and destroy them with weather ball. I don't want to play raikou like it is recommended on smogon dex, this strategy is much more interesting imo. I gave Heatran Magma Storm because it traps the opponent for up to 5 turns which I find quite useful. Gyarados has Outrage to sweep with more coverage, but I get your point. I won't change raikou's set because it's what this team is built around so Politoed is probably here to stay.

To get back on Raikou's weather ball, it's true that both Gyarados and Politoed can provide water coverage but Raikou is just very useful to lure in and surprise opponents with this moveset, so I don't have to waste turns switching in.
I might try skarmory instead of politoed though... And I'm definitely giving Heatran flash cannon. Cheers.
