Hey guys, Josh here and im back with my unorthodox tactics. This time around i have a pure sweeping team with one utility pokemon. Also on a unrelated subject, im thinking of starting a series of threads on RMT OU that features crazy odd teams that succeed in the OU meta. Of course, posts will be widespread due to the fact i build my teams to near perfection, and i do not wish to spam the forums as i hate people who bump, etc. Comment your thoughts on this/ what part of the forums this should go on.
Now, without further a due, Here we go.
TEAM BUILD PROCESS
Now this is what i really wanted to do to begin with: A team using a Mixed Attacking mew. I used mew countless times before in previous gens but it could never hold its own as a sweeper in ubers. Now that it is free to use in OU i wanted to use it too its potential.
I decided to implement mew into a rain team, as i found a mew with Thunder out performs Thundurus-T, completely due too Moveset and its not weak to HP-Ice, etc. Sure i miss electric coverage, but i find the rest of the team to have no problem with Jolteon or said Thundurus.
Tornadus brings STAB Hurricane. He faced STIFF competition of Thundurus-T, but i found Hurricane is ridiculous of a move. It 2HKOs so much of the meta, and any fighting type is OHKO. I still am considering the replacing of him with Thundurus-T, post your opinion on this.
Breloom. The quintessential pokemon for any sweeping team by me. Spore does so much damage in the opponents game plan in the switch in, and many baton pass gimmick teams rage-quit after it's used. After spore, feel free to set up as needed, and especially if the person dosent switch out after their spored. Breloom has won me at least 1/4 of the games i have played. Litterley.
One of the best sweepers in the game. With proper rapid spin support, it can take any hit with a sash, and set up a Shell Smash after wards, and it takes only a mach punch/ bullet punch to take him out, but at that point it has taken out at least 1+ pokes. But many people predict a white herb, and switch in to their fighting type right away, leaving it to be killed by Icicle Spear, or rock blast. Also, great for breaking subs.
The utility pokemon, Sets up Rocks, Spikes, and rapid spins out almost excusively for cloyster on the switch in.
THE BREAK DOWN:
MixMew.
Mew @ Life Orb
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Giga Drain (Testing Psyshock.)
Here we go. Mew. The big boy of the team, Destroys so many pokemon its not even funny (Well it is when they rage at it.) Thunder finds it self KOing the majority of the meta, and usually pulls even a 2HKO on bulkier sets. Surf adds coverage to Heatran, Infernape, etc etc. Ice beam OHKOs any ground type, with the exception of sturdy Donphan. Many people freak out at thunder and switch in to a ground type anyways. Giga drain also knocks out ground types and provides precious HP to counter the life orb damage. But, i am testing out psyshock for special walls, which has been quite useful. Heres some stats to show how dangerous he is:
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Politoed: 283-335 (73.69 - 87.23%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Thunder vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Politoed: 283-335 (103.69 - 113.23%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Thunder vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Vaporeon: 296-351 (63.93 - 75.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Thunder vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gyarados: 567-671 (171.29 - 202.71%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Salamence: 603-712 (182.17 - 215.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Multiscale Dragonite: 224-265 (69.34 - 82.04%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gliscor: 572-676 (161.58 - 190.96%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Mew Surf vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Terrakion: 247-291 (106.23 - 118.81%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Yeah.
ScarfToed
Politoed @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song
My lead to set up Rain, Hydro pump actually puts up a fight, believe it or not. Surf is reliable in clutch time situations where you cant afford to miss with Hydro pump. Lifesaver, even if it takes a slot. Ice Beam is amazing, coverage by it is unmatched. And perish song is its swan song (No pun intended), allowing it when its foddered to make sure the wall that is setting up on you is handled with. Heres some more stats to show why is like ScarfToed over SpecsToed, still packs a punch.
252 SpA Politoed Hydro Pump vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Terrakion: 336-396 (103.7 - 122.22%) -- guaranteed OHKO.
252 SpA Politoed Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Heatran: 212-252 (76.06 - 85.45%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Politoed Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Haxorus: 216-256 (103.46 - 117.07%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Politoed Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Salamence: 432-512 (130.51 - 154.68%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Tornadus (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Air Slash
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This guy. THIS GUY. Honestly is almost always to KO 1+ pokes with rain up+Hurricane. U-turn is for great scouting, especially on the switch in to a fighting type. Air slash is for STAB out side of rain, just in case youre going against a weather team as well. HP-Ice is for coverage, useful with some prediction. Also, like i said, he might lose to thundurus. Really leaning towards it too. Moar stats:
252 SpA Choice Specs Tornadus Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 219-258 (62.21 - 73.29%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tornadus Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus-T: 268-316 (89.63 - 105.68%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tornadus Hurricane vs. 120 HP / 136 SpD Conkeldurr: 674-794 (176.9 - 208.39%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tornadus Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Gliscor: 564-668 (159.32 - 188.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Breloom @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
I have a soft spot for breloom, he was the first pokemon i caught in RSE and it was the first gen i played competetively. Even though its a standard Spore+Swords Dance set, Its CRUCIAL to this team. Im not gonna go in depth with stats as its super common and everyone knows its checks and counters.
Cloyster @ Focus Sash
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Razor Shell
Another common OU set, The Glass Cannon. After forre gets rid of hazards, cloysters free to set up after a volt switch by said forre. After a shell smash, it sweeps through most teams, and even if a mach punch attempts to KO, focus sash kicks in and causes imminent frustration by the opponents. Like with breloom, everyone knows its checks and counters, so im not going in depth. Also a risk-reward check to Thundurus.
Forretress @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Volt Switch
THE premier utility pokemon for the last 12 years... god i feel old saying that... But all nostalgia aside, We all know this set, and i find it to be a staple of any team that needs spin support and entry hazards set. Takes up a slot from a possible sweeper.. But man is it useful.
And like a said in the introduction, post any Comments or constructive criticism you may have, Also, leave feedback on my possible thread series and which section it should go on in the smogon forums.
Keep it gucci everyone.
