Rain Team

Hello fellow trainers, My name is Torian this is my first RMT and my first Competitive Pokemon team. I decided to start with a rain team since that seems kind of easy for me to start with. I wanted to make it creative so please comment so i can become a better trainer ^^.

Team Building

Ok the basic of any Rain Team is the Rain Dancer AKA (Politoed)

I always liked the Dragonite and Scizor Pair and its even better since fire does half damage to scizor now

Next i knew i want 2 pokemon who could abuse hurricane and thunder and what better choice than Tornadus and Rotom-W

Next I choose Steelix to patch up my Grass/Electric/Ice/ weaknesses belive it or not this thing is a beast

I have come to relize thanks to new world order dragonite doesnt fit well on my team and after multi gone he has his limitations so i decided to add starmie for i need a spinner and a powerful one at that
In-Depth Team
186.gif

Politoed @ Leftovers
Trait:Drizzle
EVs: 252 (Spdef) 252 (HP) 4 (Spd)
Calm Nature (+Spdef, -Atk)
-Scald
-Protect
-Haze
-Toxic
This is my rain starter and my special wall.Haze has been a big help for my team stopping anyone who think they can setup on me easily.Protect is there to scout what the enemy first move is or a free leftover heal. Im thinking about running refresh beacuse i dont want him being affected by status moves. Toxic has won because of my teams sorta need for the damage and it annoys people who think they can set up or a multi scale dragonite.

121.gif

Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait:Natural Cure
EVs: 252 (Spd) 252 (Spatk) 4 (HP)
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
-Hydro Pump
-Thunder
-Rapid Spin
-Ice Beam

ok i was abit worried about putting starmie on my team but when he got on i just said Sweet! This pokemon is so awesome he does take away my hazard problem then his Spatk is so awesome i often get instant kills with him. I love rapid spin now lol hazards are so annoying i might put a taunter and someone to set hazards up too idk yet though.TY NewWorldOrder

212.gif

Scizor @ IronPlate
Trait:Technician
EVs: 156 (HP) 96 (Atk) 252 (Spdef)
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Spatk)
-Roost
-U-turn/Brick Break
-Swords Dance
-Bullet Punch

Some thing have changed on scizor like bug bite to roost the reason is i want scizor to be able to live a long time so i can use him as a revenge killer or basic scouting roost allows me to do this to the fullest and i love it. Again Iron Plate Technician Bullet punch is beast.
641.gif

Tornadus @ Choice Specs
Trait:Prankster
EVs: 252 (Spatk) 252 (Spd) 4 (HP)
Mild Nature (+ Spatk, -Def)
-Hurricane
-Hidden Power (Ice)
-U-Turn
-Focus Blast

Ok now im not gonna even lie this set is Awesome! Tornadus is such a freaking beast in the rain. If he out speeds you and you dont resist you are Dead! Hurrican is a 120 Stab attack and in the rain a sure hit. Hidden Power has helped me with Dragon types who think they can just walk in like a boss. Focus Blast for Ferrathorn mainly. U-Turn is when i know i might lose the match up or if i wanna bait in an attack that wont do nothing to a certain pokemon.

479-w.gif

Rotom-W @ Choice Scarf
Trait:Levitate
EVs: 252 (Spatk) 4 (HP) 252 (Spd)
Modest Nature (+Spatk, -Atk)
-Thunder
-Volt Switch
-Trick
-Hydro Pump

I have always doubted this set without even using it. I thought why a choice scarf rotom-W with trick? Well this thing works wonders i abuse the choice scarf speed untill i see and annoying hazard layer or a blissey who wanna come in and wall the the blob she is ^^ i really enjoy this set and it helps me pull of big wins.
208.gif

Steelix @ Leftovers
Trait:Sturdy
EVs: 252 (Def) 4 (Atk) 252 (HP)
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
-GyroBall
-EarthQuake
-StealthRock
-DragonTail

Ok i know what your thinking why steelix? Well I'll tell you why he is a awesome physical wall and always kills one pokemon and gets a Stealth Rock up. His Defensive stat after i fixed it up is 539. i was hit by a rhyperior and it did around 33%. and i dropped his speed so gyro ball will do max damage. Thank You NewWorldOrder for helping me with the EV spread and for picking DragonTail over Toxic. This guy does so much better he can get the damage rocking late or early game. His Physical capabilitys are out of this world now with the boosted HP and Def stats now there is much i will change about him for this was a good change.

Well heres my team please leave comments and what would be helpful for me ^^

changes in bold ^^

With your huge weakness to Stealth Rock, I suggest replacing Steelix with a reliable spinner. Tentacruell would probably be best. Also run Ice Beam on Politoed, and also test out Perish Song over Haze.

Tentacruell @ Leftovers
Rain Dish
252 Hp/236 Def/18 Spe
Bold
-Toxic Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-Scald
-Protect

replacing steelix is a option but maybe fortress because i dont want to many electric weaknesses and ice beam and perish sounds good but might keep haze ima test out tomorrow ty for the tips ^^

Hi, I think this is a really interesting team. Very innovative use of Steelix, it acts as a great check to dangerous Pokemon such as Dragonite and Haxorus. I'm not exactly sure what the EVs are for, if you need those Attack EVs to KO something specific, keep them. If not, I suggest going with a full out 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk spread to better take Earthquakes from DD Dragons. Something else you should consider looking into is running Dragon Tail instead of Toxic / Explosion to deal with Pokemon who attempt to boost against you. Explosion has been nerfed in 5th Gen, as it no longer cuts the opponent's Defense. It is therefore an unviable option. The choice between Dragon Tail and Toxic is based on preference. Toxic allows you to permanently break Dragonite's Multi Scale as well as cripple switchins such as Rotom-W. Dragon Tail allows Steelix to rack up Stealth Rock damage, and also allows you to simply get rid of switchins such as Rotom-W.

As of right now, this team is blatantly weak to entry hazards. Period. Scizor gets bent over by Stealth Rock and Spikes from U-Turn spamming. Dragonite loses Multi Scale just from coming in, and Tornadus is also weak to Stealth Rock. A Rapid Spinner is pretty much a necessity. Due to the Offensive Nature of this team, I think that Starmie would be the best possible fit for your team. Dragonite is quite honestly the weak link of the team. While Steelix provides a valuable Defensive pivot, Politoed brings Rain, and the other 3 combine into a formidable Volt-turning combination. Dragonite just seems out of place. Entry hazards are an absolute nightmare for most Volt-turning teams. Stealth Rock makes it so you have to think twice about blindly Volt-turn spamming. Starmie can help you get rid of those. With Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, and Thunder tearing things apart, Starmie is very capable of filling the Offensive void left by Dragonite. You may miss the Ground immunity and Fighting resist, although you already have 2 ground immunes and switching Dragonite into attacks and losing Multi Scale is a pretty terrible choice anyways. You may miss the physical presence, but that shouldn't be that big an issue when you have powerhouses such as Starmie and Tornadus that only Blissey can stop.

Your team is also weak to Starmie. Period. The thing can easily come in against Politoed and proceed to wreck your team with Hydro Pump, Thunder, and Ice Beam. An easy way to deal with this is to change Rotom-W to a Choice Scarf variant. This allows Rotom-W to outspeed and KO with Volt Switch. The opponent really can't do anything about it either. If they choose to stay in, Starmie dies and either Tornadus or Scizor can continue the Volt-Turn spamming. If the opponent switches, Rotom-W can simply Volt Switch out to an appropriate response. Both ways, the opponent is put into a bad position. Another Pokemon that could give your team problems is opposing Rotom-W, Choice Scarf Rotom should somewhat mitigate this issue. It has Trick to cripple Latias and Blissey switchins, which is always helpful. If the opposing Rotom-W isn't Choice Scarved, your Rotom-W can hit it hard with Thunder, or Volt Switch out if you predict a switch. If the opponent is Choice Scarved, then you can deal with this another way: Politoed. Rotom-W users are like addicted to switching in their Rotom-W to Politoed or something. With Protect, you can scout for Hydro Pump or Volt Switch. If the opponent uses Volt Switch, go to Steelix. If the opponent uses Hydro Pump, stay in and Toxic it. Which answers your dilemma for the fourth move on Politoed as well.

Finally, I don't think your Scizor spread is very effective. Since Iron Plate Scizor lacks recovery, and you really don't need Bug Bite. I suggest running a set with Swords Dance, Bullet Punch, U-Turn, and Roost. Most of the time after you get a Swords Dance up, you'll just be spamming U-Turn anyways.

In Summary:
new EV spread on Steelix
optional Dragon Tail over Toxic
pros: better at taking DD Dragon Earthquakes, Dragon Tail allows you to phaze and rack up damage
cons: I'm not really sure what your EV spread is for, but Toxic can help cripple opposing switchins

Starmie>Dragonite
pros: offers Rapid spin, retains Offensive presence
cons: lose physical presence, lose ground immunity/ fighting resist

Scarf Rotom-W>Tank Rotom-W
pros: gives you an answer to Starmie, helps handle opposing Rotom-W
cons: lose out on Leftovers recovery

Toxic as the last move on Politoed
pros: its the best move available, why not use it?

Roost>Bug Bite on Scizor
pros: instant recovery is always helpful
cons: none really, since you'll rarely be using Bug Bite anyways

TY for the tips i like what your saying on rotom and it sounds awesome then roost over bug bite is a better choice and ty for a good spinner because fort and tentacruel just didnt have the attack power i needed and lol i didnt know my EVs on steelix 2 so ty for pointing ime in the right direction and im debating right now for my team can use the toxic damage steelix can give but dragon tail then stealth rock damage is a + i will try them out later on today for i have school ^^ i will post any changes in bold so look for them and ty because starmies are annoying and if i dont out speed them they will wreck my face a lot.

Steelix is cool but 4x water weakness in rain coupled with his low SpDef isnt looking too good

Impressive rain team, and looking through the comments before i had a chance to respond, i guess they took out what i wanted to say, except for the Scizor, i guess i would;ve recommended a Life Orb instead of Iron Plate, as you gain power AND you can roost after a couple of atk's. Then U-Turn to predict a switch, all and all, i love this rain team actually.
