Hello. I was playing around with my old rain team before I decided that it was not getting me where I needed to go. So i built a new team, and i wanted to gather some opinions on it.
This is my team, I have been testing it out, and i shall share my thought process and various other endeavors below.
Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Ice Shard
I did some reading up on good elements for a team, and one in particular stood out, entry hazards. Further reading about entry hazards lead me to my hazard of choice, stealth rock. Continued reading then lead to my choice for a user, being mamoswine. I began to build a Mamoswine set, and I knew that i wanted to focus on offense, so I decided to run Adamant rather than jolly. I decided to run Earthquake for a 120 BP STAB move (EQ is 120 BP after STAB) that could run over enemy hazard users and leads, such as Klefki. I also wanted a nice way to run over enemy Talonflame as well as Togekiss, so Stone edge was my next choice. After more reading, I saw that priority cleanup was also a nice element to a team, so Ice shard was my next choice, allowing me to run over enemy Garchomp, Salamence, Dragonite, and Smeargle, as well as random late game cleanup.
Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Modest Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Toxic
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
Next up, I wanted to run Aegislash. I have had great success with him in the past, and knew that he would be a great addition to this team. Research on Aegislash enlightened me on a point i had not though about before. His SAtk and Atk are identical. Because of this, i decided to run a special Aegislash, to catch my enemies by suprise, as well as walk into opposing Rotom-W and Sableye without fear. I knew that leftovers is a standard item for Aegislash, so i put on leftovers. The modest nature came on because i wanted a special set. Flash cannon was my first move, because I wanted a nice steel type STAB to run over opposing ice and fairy types. Toxic was a move that I am still on the fence about, and i am open to changing it around. King's shield was an obvious choice, to allow me to revert back to my tanky defensive state, as well as punish physical attackers. Shadow ball was an obvious choice for me, slaying opposing aegislash and gengar quickly, as well as being a powerful ghost type STAB.
Kyurem-Black @ Leftovers
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Blizzard
- Substitute
Now comes the offensive core of this team. Kyurem-B was originally Salamence, but after continued research, I came to realize his pure outclassed-mess, and realized my loyalty to Salamence was just a relic of my nostalgic ADV days, and that he was no longer on top. I since realized that it is Kyurem-B that is the new destroyer of worlds, and he replaced salamence in the core. I am unsure of how to run Kyurem-B to his full potential, so this set is very much up for changes. Leftovers seemed a good choice, letting him stay in longer. Outrage was my first choice, as 120 BP STAB Outrage off base 170 attack wrecks house. Fusion bolt was my next choice, as it provides nice coverage without forcing him to be outrage-locked. Blizzard was my next choice, as a devastating ice type STAB to wreck enemy flying and dragon types, namely enemy garchomp and salamence. Substitute is an interesting case, it limits his offensive coverage a bit, but protects him longer, I am open to changes there.
Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
- Brick Break
- Swords Dance
Enter the second member of my 2 poke core, Mega Mawile. With huge power on his side, he dominates with a +2 sucker punch to the everything. Intimidate serves to protect him from enemy attack before he mega evolves, and allows him to get a swords dance off safely. Sucker punch was an obvious choice, as it makes up for his god awful speed, and let him knock opponents down like bowling pins. Play rough is a devastating physical fairy STAB, used to annihilate slower pokes to save sucker punch PP, as well as catch greedy setup sweepers off guard, who assume that they are safe not using damaging moves. Brick break lets me knock down opposing tyranitar and smash apart screens. Swords dance is on to allow for ridiculously boosted offense.
Rotom-Wash @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature
- Thunder
- Hydro Pump
- Rest
- Will-O-Wisp
After the above 4 pokes, i could not decide where to go, so I decided to work on protecting the core a bit, so Rotom-W was an obvious choice to burn the enemy, as well as knock down enemy fire types. I wanted him to stay around to decimate for a long period of time, so chesto-rest was my choice. Thunder came on as a nice electric STAB to hit hard and decimate opposing water types, such as vaporeon. Hydro pump lets me knock down enemy mega charizard, as well as excadrill, with a devastating base 110 STAB power. Rest came on for the chesto-rest mentioned earlier, and will-o-wisp lets me cripple opposing mawile, garchomp, salamence, etc.
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Shadow Claw
I took a step back here, and looked at my team, and noticed a large flaw, a lack of hazard removal. I opted out of defog here because my team has hazards of it's own. I began to look for offensive rapid spinners, and I opted out of Elephant of Lame (Donphan) for Excadrill, the air balloon shields it from enemy Earthquake nicely, and mold breaker lets me knock down enemy Rotom-W. Rapid spin was an obvious choice, as i designed excadrill as a spinner. Earthquake is a standard STAB as well as iron head, letting my knock down enemy fairies that aegislash cannot. Shadow claw is a mixed bag for me, providing some coverage, but i feel that there is a better option, changes would be appreciated.
That is my OU team, thank you for your time in assisting me in to become a better player.
