Randbats Spotlight Ladder!
The Randbats Spotlight Ladder's purpose is simple: to give formats that would not otherwise have one a chance to be played on a wider scale. Each other month, four options will be given, and the winner after a week of voting will have its own ladder for a period of two months!
As usual, this Randbats Spotlight will feature a SMOGON TOURNAMENT related to it. More details about this tournament are included in this thread, so keep reading!
Since it's the last cycle of the year, the options were chosen among some of the most popular formats from this year's cycles that couldn't get enough votes to become spotlights. In other words, this is "best of the rest"!
YOU MAY VOTE FOR MAXIMUM 3 FORMATS!
What are all these formats and mods?
Gen 5 Random Battle Blitz: The most anxiety-inducing format is back to promise fast paced matches in gen 5. Can you pick your move wisely with just 15 seconds at your disposal? Most importantly, can you survive your own Internet connection? If the answer to both is "yes", then maybe this is the right format for you!
Gen 3 Full Potential Random Battle: Whenever you unleash an attack, the damage is calculated by using the highest stat of your pokemon. This means that usually defensive walls like Steelix and Blissey, or speedy but frail pokemon like Ninjask could turn into unexpected offensive powerhouses. Plus, Pokémon cursed with their STABs being of the wrong type gain new life in this modded Gen 3 format!
Gen 9 Bonus Type + Terastal clause Random Battle: Pokémon have their Tera Type added onto their current ones, without making use of the Terastal mechanic. This means sometimes you'll have pokemon with not one, not two but three types and you'll have to handle them as best as you can!
Gen 6 Challenge Cup Triple Battles: What's better than 2v2 battles? 3v3 battles! Mixed with the lovely wackiness of Challenge Cup, we are sure Triple Battles will become even more unpredictable and entertaining!
Gen 8 Protean Palace Random Battle: Every Pokemon, in addition to their normal abilities, has the effect of Gen 8 Protean. Every move you make, you change your Pokemon's type to that move!
Gen 9 Scalemons Metronome Battle: If you didn't know Metronome is under the aegis of the randbats room, its debut in a Spotlight cycle will teach you that! You'll have to do minimal team building in order to create the best pairing you can thing of for this inherently random format, and Scalemons will allow you to pick some unorthodox pokemon, whose bst is getting approximated to 600. Pick your two mons, click Metronome and...pray it goes well x)
!IMPORTANT! Tournament information
This month's Randbats Spotlight is going to include a SMOGON TOURNAMENT. The format of this tournament will be the format chosen as the Randbats Spotlight. The length of this tournament will be 2 months, which will determine the pace of the tournament. The prize of the tournament will be 1 month of RPW (Room Prize Winner) and the possibility to pick a format for the next Randbats Spotlight poll!
How do I sign up?
Please do not sign up in this thread, a new thread will be open for the tournament itself.
Rules and additional details:
- When selecting a format to vote on as the winner, you will have a wide array of options, from modded variants of ladders that already exist, to formats that are challenge-only, to formats that don't exist at all! However, these are subject to coding limitations, and formats that have recently been a bimonthly spotlight cannot be voted on again for several months.
- This thread is open for discussion. Stay cordial, follow all site rules.
- Only votes in the poll above will count. Please do not type your vote out in a reply.
