Random Acts of Kindness

Hey everyone, I felt like a thread where we all share times when we either acted or have been on the receiving end of acts of kindness. There is so much negativity in this world that you see on a daily basis, so I feel that we all need a reminder that there are genuinely kind people out there. :)

I guess I'll start. Two days ago I was on the subway on my way to work, and suddenly I got this crazy nosebleed. I had no tissues on me and was in a rush, meaning that I had no time to go to the restroom before arriving at work. I pinched my nose and held my head in the air for a few minutes while people around me were turning a blind eye.

Fortunately, a very nice man offered me a few tissues, and shortly thereafter, another nice guy offered me his seat (this was during rush hour, so the train was busy). After a few minutes, another two individuals offered me tissues. Most memorably though, a nice lady gave me an entire pack of wet wipes, so I was able to clean myself off without having to go to the washroom and be late for work.

I didn't know any of these people, and they had no incentive to help me out. However, multiple people did anyways. This was so nice to see, and served as a reminder that despite what some people say, there are good people out there who try to do the right thing. I look forward to hearing all your experiences :).

Back in July I had a strangely profound encounter with a homeless man. I was out with my family and we had stopped at a place so my parents could go in and order takeout. There were two homeless guys sitting on the sidewalk leading to it. They asked my parents for money, but didn't get any and they were okay with it.

My brother and I were alone in the car and he was grumpy about something so we got into an argument. I knew it wasn't important or worth it, so I just kinda withdrew from the conversation and got out of the car and went into the restaurant too.

As I passed by the homeless guys, one of them said to me "hey cheer up, it's not that bad between you two." This guy didn't know who I was; it was the first time we'd ever seen each other. There's no way he could've known what was said in the car. Didn't ask me for money or anything. He just saw I was angry and asked me to cheer up. I thought it was nice of him, though I was so surprised that I didn't say anything at the time and just kinda nodded to him in appreciation.

I mean, I am pretty good at dealing with conflict and I'm not a person who holds grudges, so I knew it was going to be fine. Still, it was nice of him to say that to a complete stranger. It gave me an interesting perspective.

during the holidays, my family tends to make too much food, so we just give it to people who need it or cant afford to make/get their own, notably to a nice homeless guy that used to stay in our neighborhood

the other night i was hanging out with my friend and complaining about how i had to work the next day at 6:30 in the morning. right before i left to go home, he reaches into his wallet, pulls out a starbucks gift card, and says, "go buy some coffee tomorrow morning" it was so unexpected and nice :,)

Usually during morning Rush hour if I'm at mcdonalds or starbucks I usually pay for the person/persons behind me. You'd be surprised how many people in my area do this in Miami. It happened to me a couple of times now and it's saved me a good 10-15 min to get to work or class.
