Random Dice Roll Team

Edit: Is my team that bad that no one will help? :/

I've been playing for quite some time, but up until recently haven't gotten to know the competitive aspect of the game. I don't have any favorite pokes or general team ideas so I just rolled dice to pick my six guys. I figure that even though there is no centralization based off choosing one or two and then building from there I did try and mold the move sets and EV's so that the team would be somewhat reliable. Oh and this is a Wi-fi team. So without further ado...

Ariados @ Focus Sash
Ability: Insomnia
EVs: 253 Atk/5 Def/252 Spe
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
- Agility
- Bug Bite
- Sucker Punch
- Poison Jab

Ariados is easily the weakest link on the team. The only real treat it has is taking out a Psychic with Bug Bite. If it's not juiced in Def. The Focus Sash allows for her to take one hit, and with some excellent prediction Sucker Punch could nab a kill as well. I know she's really dead weight but I figure if I can take out one for one then it's a win. I wouldn't have kept Bold nature but her 31 Def IV kinda made me decide to keep it.

dpmfa171.png

Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EV's: 192 SAtk/252 SDef/72 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
- Confuse Ray
- Discharge
- Surf
- Blizzard

My special wall. The set is pretty simple, I picked discharge over Tbolt because I like the 30% chance of paralysis. I took blizzard because he's got a terrible IV for SAtk (2) so without the STAB ice beam would be pretty weak anyways. I'm not to worried about the occasional miss. Since it is my wall I'm not broken up about it being weakling for attacks. I basically will confuse whatever I come in on, then Discharge and see if I can't para what ever is brought in.

dpmfa034.png

Nidoking @ Choice Band
Ability: Poison Point
EV's: 252 Atk/190 SAtk/72 Spe
Nature: Lonely (+Atk, -Def)
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge/SAtk?

Obviously he is my Atk sweeper. I originally was going to make him a MixKing, but as my team grew I realized that I had more than enough SAtk support and I really needed a strong attacker. I'm still on the fence about giving him Stone Edge though. I don't think I need it, and with a 31 IV in SAtk along with the EV's I think I should throw in a Special just to mix it up? If I do that I'd probably switch to Choice Scarf though. His HP is bug type so that's out of the question with a much more powerful Megahorn attack available to him. This is one of the areas I am stuck on.

dpffa465.png

Tangrowth @ Leftovers
Ability: Chlorophyll
EV's: 252 HP/252 Def/6 Spe
Nature: Quiet (+SAtk, - Spe)
- Power Whip
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off/HP Ice

This is the Monjobo set with a twist. She has a huge SAtk so I switched Giga Drain for Leech Seed. Between a 31 IV and quiet nature I really had to. I like Knock off, but she gets HP Ice with 66 power so I am really on the fence about which one to use. Ice is SE on 13 of the pokes on the OU threat list so having it in abundance isn't that bad of an idea to me.

dpmfa080.png

Slowbro @ Leftovers/Lum Berry
Ability: Oblivious
EV's: 160 HP/252 Def/96 SAtk
Nature: Calm (+SDef, - Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Slack Off
- Surf
- Ice Beam
My physical wall. I love this set, just get a CM off and start the fun. Leftovers was recommended but with all the status effects that can wear him down I was considering maybe a Lum berry instead.

dpmfa467.png

Magmortar @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flame Body
EV's: 6 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Nature: Rash (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
If I was going to pick any guy from this team that I'd use in a real team he'd be it. The sheer breed was amazing enough considering the small amount of effort I put in. (2/27/31/31/29/2) I really wish that speed was switched with SDef, but you can't win em all right? Back on topic; he's my special sweeper and man does he do a good job of it. I gave him psychic instead of HP because his HP is garbage.

So that's the team, keep in mind that I bred and EV'd before really picking the moves. Something I'll take from this learning experience is to plan before I breed. But I think that it would stand up in a BL/UU game and maybe even put up a decent fight in OU? I dunno I haven't really checked the threat list to figure out how bad the team really is but I know I have a heavy ground weakness so I have a feeling that Chomp rips through the team like a knife through melted butter. I'll let the experts chime in on that one.

honestly first fix your natures then you might get some help also considering your team has at least one OU im guessing its for OU standard please remove ariados he wont do enough to be a valuable member of the team. So theres a start as near all your natures are terrible

I suggest you replace ariados for a honchkrow it can get the ability insomnia while having sucker punch and pursuit and can kill weaviles as well with drill peck.

Yeah, I agree. The Ariados isn't worth keeping except for breeding. Because of the natures you're really going have to make a new team from scratch, using a specific tier. I'm sure people won't mind you scouting around the other 'Rate my Team' threads for ideas.

I wasn't really going to use the team for OU, I do see what you guys are saying about the natures for some of the guys but all of them? I thought Magmoratars nature was good? Yes/No?

I wasn't really expecting to get any good responses, I was more making this team to have a foundation for team building in the future. I probably won't even use this team in any tourneys unless the UU metagame picks up or I really feel like getting crushed in an OU tourney, haha.

If you want to play in the UU, go here http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/uu.

Take out Tangrowth, Slowbro and Magmortar, and replace them with one of the pokes from the list. Anybody can choose 6 random pokes and put them on a team. If you are serious about battles take a look at the pokes and moveset on the aforementioned site, make you you have the type diversity and stats to cover weakness and give your team a spin. Take note of what harms are team considerably and revise your team to counter the more frequent threats.

Thanks Chewy! From all the lurking I got the impression that there wasn't a UU metagame going right now besides a few pick up games here and there. I'll definitely be on that.

Lol, It's true. Nobody really plays UU. I used to until I got bored because Nobody else played it, And It was so hard to find battles. I started playing OU teams with my UU teams but it was very hard and I did struggle alot. I now just play across the teirs, There are alot of good UU pokemon but sometimes they do need backup from some stronger fighters. =D

Yeah when I rolled to get the team I definitely thought it wasn't going to be viable for OU. But I wanted to get a practice run in for breeding and team building so I did it anyways. I'll apply what I learned to building a real team.

Can I get some feedback on why my natures are so fucked? I understand a couple of them (Ariados and Tangrowth) but the others I thought were viable.

Magmortar should have a modest nature, being weak to a type with so much special attacks makes it important that no cuts to S.defense exist.
Tangrowth has a relatively mediocre moveset, and it should have leech seed. He should be adamant to maximize power whip's might. Nidoking is a CHOICE BANDER. He should be adamant as well, seing that he uses no special attacks. Slowbro's good, though his evs seem pretty akward with his nature(change the defense evs to special defense.) Lanturn's alright, but you're better off without confuse ray(confusion is highly unreliable outside machamp), and go for modest for lanturn. Ariados must be replaced, i suggest Yanmega because it's awesome, or perhaps a sturdy heatran?

Ahh, I figured that because Mag's Sdef was pretty low anyways that it wouldn't really matter. I've been wondering why Leech Seed is so much better than Giga Drain? I never figured that out. Yeah about Nidoking, I originally planned to make him a MixKing when I did his EV's...
