- - Randomness - -
Ever since I was introduced to the 4th Generation, I was instantly attracted to Froslass and it's epicness (at least, I think it's epic). So, I made a team centered around Froslass as a lead. (Take note that I tend to not use only OU Pokemon in OU)
It consisted of:
Froslass, Swampert, Blaziken, Heatran, Sceptile, and Dragonite
Froslass = Spikes+Taunt Lead, Swampert = ChestoRest+SR, Blaziken = SubPunch, Heatran = Special Attacker, Sceptile = Swords Dance, and Dragonite = Physical Attacker.
Swampert, Blaziken, and Heatran supported Froslass' weaknesses and Sceptile and Dragonite covered Swampert, Blaziken, and Heatran.
This team worked out pretty well for a while (surprisingly), until Dragonite seemed out of place and Froslass kept dying too early on.
Around this time, I was playing around with making a new random team out of Pokemon that I like. Since I like Froslass so much, I started with her. It turned out like this:
Froslass, Charizard, Umbreon, Gliscor, Sceptile, Rhyperior
(Rhyperior isn't a favorite, I just needed something like him in there)
Froslass = Spikes/Taunt Lead, Charizard = BellyZard, Umbreon = Baton Pass + Wish, Gliscor = BritScor, Sceptile = Life Orb Special Attacker, and Rhyperior was a custom physical attacker.
Soon it became apparent that Umbreon was useless, so I switched in Vaporeon, as I could still have Baton Pass + Wish and add a Water-Type that the team had been lacking
*
*
After some time it became apparent that this team needed drastic improvement. (1, Vaporeon wasn't doing it's job properly, (2, Rhyperior just wasn't fitting in, and (3, Charizard got too predictable. Sceptile and Froslass were still okay. However, Gliscor turned out to be a great help. So, I decided to base the team not only around Froslass, but also Gliscor.
First, I switched out Vaporeon for Scizor, for good synergy with Gliscor.
*
*
Second, I realized that the team was lacking in supporting most of Froslass' and Gliscor's individual weaknesses. So, I switched in Empoleon for Rhyperior, as it has a whole bunch of resistances, and I still needed a Water-Type to ease my conscience.
*
*
And thirdly, I switched Charizard to a Choice Specs set rather than the BellyZard.
And now, for the breakdown:
Name: Freeze
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 4 SpDef / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
- Destiny Bond
- Ice Beam
- Spikes
- Taunt
Freeze is the standard Froslass lead. I usually use Taunt first, unless (1 my opponent's lead could possibly have a move Freeze is weak to, (2 if they're faster and I predict a Taunt from them, or (3 Freeze is faster and Ice Beam will do super-effective damage. I've tried Psychic/Shadow Ball over Spikes with a past Froslass, but it's helped more often to have entry hazards set up. Destiny Bond has not only helped surprise my opponent's into forfeiting matches, but also, if Freeze survives, has really helped out late in the game. Pokemon Online has the Dream World ability option of Cursed Body, which I sometimes switch abilities for when I don't care about sticking with 4th Gen Tiers.
(Freeze is so named for her epicness that freezes all in their tracks)
Name: Charge
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
- Air Slash
- AncientPower
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Electric]
Charge, as I stated before, wasn't really doing a good job with the BellyZard set. Therefore, I altered him into a Choice Specs Set. Flamethrower is the weapon of choice. Hidden Power Electric to stop Water-Types from switching in. I'm thinking of possibly switching Air Slash for something, but I can't think of what. I could use Dragon Pulse, but Dragon (Sceptile) already has it. Focus Blast, albeit inaccurate, is powerful enough to stop Rock-Types that could cause Charge problems. Defensively, Charge is good to switch into Fire-Type moves that would damage Freeze and Stinger (Scizor).
(Charge is so named because he is vicious. Nuff said.)
Name: Stinger
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Pursuit
When I first discovered Choice Band+Technician+Bullet Punch Scizor, I was like, "Whoa. That is too good." And it certainly seems that way, with Scizor's many resistances as well. This moveset is pretty typical for a Choice Band Scizor. Superpower as bonus power, U-Turn for STAB scouting, and Pursuit to pretty much trap Dark-weak Pokemon. Defensively, as I said before, Scizor has so many resistances it's hard for someone land a solid hit while taking a beating from Choice Band's effects. If Fire moves do pose a threat, a switch into Charge works well.
(Stinger is named after my youth leader's yellow Chevy Aveo XD)
Name: Stryker
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Taunt
- U-turn
There is definitely a reason why BritScor was (and is) so effective. Stryker has been a late game saving grace for me on other teams, but I want to focus her as more of a solid contender than a last chance. Roost is officialy my favorite attack, having previously made a successful Sandstorm team with half the team knowing the move. It just adds that much more to her staying power. Earthquake is a great solid STAB move, while U-Turn, another wonderful move, is used primarily for getting out of bad situations while doing some damage (I don't tend to scout with Stryker much). I'm a little iffy about Taunt. I mean, it's helped me out quite a bit, but could I switch it with something better? Stealth Rock perhaps? Due to Stryker's lack of resistances prevalent to the rest of the team, there's not much to switch into. However, she does have resistance to both Ground and Electric, which can be extremely helpful.
(Stryker was named after William Stryker from the X-Men movies. Mine's female? Strategy)
Dragon
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leaf Storm
My favorite fully evolved starter is, obviously, Sceptile. In this case, she's named Dragon (I know, I know, females. Hey, so what if I'm paranoid about Attract?! XD). The name seems to bode well, because when used right she's a force to be reckoned with. This is pretty much the standard SpAtk Life Orb set, but I chose Hidden Power Fire over Ice so I can hit Steel-Types, which are far more prevalent than Flying-Types. (What about Dragon-Types, you ask? Notice the Dragon Pulse? You: "Aaaaah...") Leaf Storm adds in a brilliant STAB move, but the decresing SpAtk troubles my soul. Would Giga Drain POSSIBLY be a somewhat better choice? It might help with Life Orb recoil. I'm gonna stick with Leaf Storm for a while though. We'll see. Anyway, Focus Blast rounds out the set to hit Ice-Types and such. Another thing about Dream World that I'm really excited about is Sceptile's extra Ability called Unburden. It doubles Speed when the Item is consumed. So, give Sceptile a Petaya/Leichi Berry with Endure/Substitute or something and go super-speed-sweeping through your opponent's ranks!
(Dragon is so named because I ran out of creative ideas)
Mumble
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 16 HP / 252 Def / 240 SpDef
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Yawn
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
When I was looking for good resistance coverage I looked no further than Empoleon. Basically, unless your opponent's using Electric, Ground, or Fighting, just switch in Empoleon! It's awesome! I kinda customized my own Empoleon, taking a defensive SR/sleeper/poisoner approach. Surf is in there because I don't like having all non-damaging moves, and it's a good attack. So, the basic strategy with Mumble is switch into anything (other than the 3 types mentioned above), use SR, then Yawn and/or Toxic until I feel the need to switch. An added bonus is that Mumble's weaknesses are covered exactly by Stryker and Freeze's immunities.
(Mumble is named after the main character from "Happy Feet")
So, that's my team. Feel free to critique, give advice, or totally insult me! I am open to all suggestions.
Thanx!
