Random Battles Slam IV

Welcome, one and all, to the fourth annual Rands Slam! Rands Slam is a tournament circuit organized by the Random Battles room on PS! that gives players the opportunity to prove their individual skill in a variety of relevant and competitive Random Battles formats. Over the coming months, players will compete in 9 different Single Elimination tournaments with the objective to earn points and standing on the Slam IV leaderboard. The top 32 players will qualify for the Rands Slam Playoffs, with the eventual first-place prize of a custom avatar!

To grant more flexibility in routes towards playoffs qualification, only each player’s 5 best performances will count towards their standing on the leaderboard. (Of course, players are still free to play in as many tournaments as they’d like, to increase their odds of reaching the top!) Every Open will use the standard points system implemented by the Smogon Grand Slam.

While the circuit as a whole will be coordinated by the Slam IV hosts, each individual Open will be hosted by different members of the Random Battles room auth. Slam IV hosts will have final say over all administrative decisions regarding the tour, with input from each Open’s respective hosts. All Opens will follow the basic guidelines for tournaments on Smogon, but may differ slightly due to their varying structures, so remember to read each OP carefully when signing up!

The Prizes​

- The winner of each Open will get the Room Prize Winner rank for one month and be recorded in the Random Battles Hall of Fame
- The overall Slam IV winner (the player who emerges at the top of the playoffs bracket) will get a Smogon banner; their choice of either a custom avatar, a color change, or a disabled name on PS; and Room Prize Winner rank for one year

Upon reviewing the situation in full, hosts have determined that Lanz had ample opportunity to realize they weren't playing their first game against Zoyotte, but against an imposter, including but not limited to a global staff member confirming this fact during the game. As such, the series must be replayed (and will be granted a standard extension if necessary).

Additionally, the user "progamerxxx412" is tourbanned from all future Random Battles tournaments (and would face further consequences if they used Smogon, but it appears they do not).

Re: the current PS downtime

Because we can't guarantee that any given rands format is up-to-date on external/unofficial servers (and given existing tournament rules that restrict games to PS and smogtours), games should not be played until the OFFICIAL server(s) return. Extensions will be granted if necessary.

Re: Vitoran vs TNTDestroyer, DS Classic Open

Before the match began, the players agreed that during the battles, each of them would be playing a second game simultaneously; Vitoran would be playing chess, and TNT, Valorant. The latter game has voice chat, and during game 1, TNT confirmed that they were using said feature.

Per tournament rules, playing a game while in a voice call with someone else will always be treated as ghosting of the highest severity. Under normal circumstances, TNT would be infracted and issued a tournament ban. In this specific instance, however, both players understood the situation—in fact, it was Vitoran who suggested TNT play Valorant—so TNT will instead be issued a warning against repeating this behavior. Had TNT won the match, irrespective of the players' prior agreement, TNT would have been disqualified.

Don't do this, folks.

An FYI for all our competitors: the Randbats Tooltip is currently out of date, and we don’t know when it will be updated. Changes to the various formats will continue, and be posted as normal; as such, use the tooltip at your own risk.
