I hadn't even realized I was Rank 1 when it happened. If more people played this format enough to make finding an opponent really quick, the maximum ELO needed to be number one would be higher.
(Iron Crown) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 40 HP / 44 Def / 172 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Tachyon Cutter
- Expanding Force
- Protect
- Calm Mind
PS said that I need to run 20 Atk IVs in order for Iron Crown to be legal with this moveset. Iron Crown doesn't learn too many other attacks so I figured that moving first with Quark Drive: Speed and setting up Calm Mind in order to tank a hit, and then hitting with an OHKO under Psychic Terrain would be important. Having a second STAB is useful because some opponents stall out your Psychic Terrain and because Dark types exist. I can also KO Ice Types before they set up which they can do a lot of in Gen 9 but not in the earliest gens.
Ultimate Dread (Indeedee-F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Psychic Surge
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Follow Me
- Helping Hand
- Shadow Ball
- Light Screen
In a mirror match, Shadow Ball is unable to hit opposing Indeedee but even if I used a Psychic-type move it would be not-very-effective against a Normal/Psychic type anyway. I think I am using this in order to deal some non-zero damage to Incineroar and because my Gholdengo doesn't have a Ghost move, putting the team at risk against opposing Gholdengo. Having an attack - any attack - is important for those few situations when Iron Crown fails to completely bring the opponent's HP to zero and then gets KO'd, leaving me with an Indeedee without any win condition since it can't do damage. Against Eruption users, Follow Me + Calm Mind with Indeedee & Iron Crown is not enough so I'm safer letting Iron Crown Protect itself while I set up Light Screen.
22 70 250 Cause (Heatran) @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Heat Wave
- Earth Power
- Protect
- Dragon Pulse
My inspiration to use Heatran comes from my experience playing Gen 6 VGC and Gen 6 Doubles OU. The latter is available on Pokemon Showdown and I am high-ranked on it too. One of the best way to deal with opposing Heatran in Doubles is to use your own Shuca Berry/Flash Fire Heatran, though in this format you won't have to deal with them ever so you can run zero Speed while investing in HP instead in order to survive Ground-type attacks with confidence and be sure you can win against Torkoal. I don't run a Steel-type attack because "Cobalion" and hGoldeengho have those already, though I really only use Dragon Pulse against Regidrago to reduce the power of its Dragon Energy and it's a bit too strong against it lol. In theory Dragon Pulse might also be useful for Air Balloons against a team that might have Wide Guard.
It's even acceptable to run two fire moves on the same Heatran for different use cases. Burning Jealousy in the last slot could be useful against teams with Ogerpon since it has an ability that increases its Sp.Def.
(Gholdengo) @ Occa Berry
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 56 Def / 88 SpA / 112 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Make It Rain
- Confuse Ray
- Reflect
Occa Berry is again needed for Incineroar which can fight against every member of my team and it can tank Earth Power from Heatran. Because Make It Rain lowers your SpA, you need an alternate way to fight and that's why I have Thunderbolt, Reflect and Confuse Ray. All four of these moves see about equal use. 4 Speed is to outrun anyone trying to outrun 0 Spe oghodeendlo.
The very first team I used on the 2v2 ladder starred Drizzle + Kingdra instead. I think it was Choice Specs Kingdra, but it simply didn't get as many knockouts as Psychic Terrain which lead to some broken teams across all formats, even in single battles, and also it wasn't immune to priority moves.
