Welcome to the latest installment of the RarelyUsed Teambuilding Competition! This project is your chance to build the best teams possible around the subject of the week, which can be anything from a specific ability, item, move, or Pokemon. Be sure to tune in every week as people submit teams and then vote to determine which was the best! Please also join us for the voting, which takes place every weekend before the winner is crowned on Monday.

Winning teams will be showcased in the Teambuilding Competition Hall of Fame and RU Sample Teams thread, with the possibility of being featured in the RU Room on PS! or in a video on the Smogon RU YouTube channel as well!

Rules and Guidelines:

All participants will submit a link to the team in the PokePaste format, with the option to add a description of how the team was built and functions; be mindful that voters will likely look at the team and analyze your though process, so give as much information as needed to sell yourself. Other than the requirement to use the subject of the week, the team merely has to be legal for use in the current RU format, so build to your hearts desire!

People are welcome to discuss submitted teams but should be mindful to avoid trying to change the team drastically; this is not a Team Bazaar or Rate My Team, so please keep suggested changes to a minimum.

Cheating of any kind will result in your disqualification and potential ban from submitting future teams. Do not attempt to manipulate votes, steal teams from others, or generally skew the outcome of the weekly challenges. This is a for-fun project and the people who participate should not be dissuaded from having fun.

Image for Week One in memory of Sneakyplanner
Mamoswine is the newest addition to the tier and has made an immediate impact on the metagame, establishing itself as a premier offensive powerhouse. There are very few wallbreakers in the game that can match the damage dished out by Mamoswine thanks to its devastating STAB combination of Ground and Ice, awesome priority in Ice Shard, and an abundance of options like Knock Off, Rock Blast, and Trailblaze to choose from to pick off would-be checks like Rotom-H and Quagsire. Although you'll see this woolly behemoth sporting Heavy-Duty Boots generally, people have experimented with a plethora of other offensively-oriented items such as Choice Band, Life Orb, and Never-Melt Ice. Mamoswine is also quite flexible with regards to its Terastallization choices, being able to go offensive with Ground and Ice to boost its STABs or more defensive with Fire and Grass to flip matchups into threats like Will-O-Wisp Galarian Weezing and Barraskewda.

With so much firepower and the capability to do so many things, what will you choose? Will you build around Choice Band Mamoswine to blow up defensive teams? Maybe a Curse + White Herb set fits better for you to switch attacks comfortably without sacrificing power? Feeling lucky enough to try a Loaded Dice + Icicle Spear variant? Regardless of which direction you go, I look forward to seeing what you can come up with! The submission deadline will be Friday, February 7th, at 3pm GMT -6.

teambuilding comp back woo, for the first new comp of they new year this is the mamo team I'll be throwing into the mix that I built during rubd but have just been having fun with in general.

:mamoswine:
The star of the show and the mon that I started off this team building around. Personally ever since mamo came back down to RU I went to experiment with a bunch of the common spreads people were talking about before with like Life Orb, Band, or Heavy-Duty Boots but I always found myself lacking something. Life Orb was cool but cutting into your natural survivability every time you want to click an attack felt bad, Band keeps the power aspect of Life Orb without worrying about the hp loss but takes away your flexibility which is imo another one of the things that makes mamo special as a breaker, and Heavy-Duty Boots bolsters both survivability and flexibility but leaves you a bit lacking in the damage department overall. In an attempt to circumvent these issues I decided to try out a loaded dice set. The base power guaranteed from 4 icicle spear hits actually matches up quite well vs a LO icicle crash only being about a percentage point less in overall power with 5 hits outright outdamaging it. It was also very nice to have a consistent ice attack you can spam if necessary without needing to worry about the possibility of missing which everyone whose ever used an icicle crash mon can attest sucks. Earthquake is of course there for the secondary stab option giving mamo the vaunted ice/ground coverage which is always very nice. Rock Blast was then the next natural choice for me on a loaded dice set giving mamo also vaunted edge quake coverage with rock blast also being able to hit something like rotom-heat who may want to switch in thinking it answers mamos STAB combinations. Finally I capped the set off with trailblaze giving mamo the ability to boost his speed and going from a breaker to a potential sweeping threat. Mamo at +1 speed notably outpaces the entirety of the unboosted metagame being able to then threaten big mons such as Jirachi or Slither Wing who would otherwise be faster and potentially be able to switch in and threaten him out. Tera grass is to boost trailblazes base power and give mamo a stronger hit into something like slowbro (who truth be told still tanks it pretty well but the extra damage is still nice).

:mamoswine::umbreon:
With mamo as a breaker of choice I decided that umbreon would be a strong pairing for both the wish passing support but more importantly the toxic support. Toxic in gen 9 really is a luxury outside of ur poison mons with umbreon being one of the rare few with access to the move outside of its native typing. Umbreon also happens to be one of the best users of tox in the tier with superb defensive stats and access to a not 8 pp recovery option in wish. The survivability and toxic combo give umbreon almost unparalleled utility as far as making progress, scouting the opponent, and wish support for not only your own health but to the entire team. Umbreon is also neat as a toxic spreader in the sense that it can sometimes bait out tera poisons which is immensely beneficial to mamoswine. For example, like I mentioned in the mamoswine portion slowbro is a menace to deal with and probably the tiers best switchin to mamoswine with cm sets even being able to use mamo for setup fodder and make a run at the game. Umbreon can put a stop to such things being able to threaten toxics and force switches or at the very least bait out a tera poison which then opens up mamoswine being able to throw off now SE eqs.

:mamoswine::umbreon::hippowdon:
Another piece of my defensive core, with umbreon holding down the fort as the designated sp def specialist hippowdon is one of the best blanket physical walls in the tier. Filling out the steal rocker spot hippo is the fall back vs many of the physical threats in the tier such as bisharp and maushold being able to sponge their hits, threaten with eq, or just get them out with whirlwind. Mamoswine also conveniently being a ground type means he is not detrimentally affected by sand stream which is nice as the sand chip can actually be a benefit making some progress on all non rock/ground/or steel mons and perhaps put some of them into mamoswine range eventually. Tera dragon is to sponge the water/grass hits that hippowdon might see coming his way but could also easily be tera ghost to act as a spin blocker and guaranteed answer to iron defense body press mons who could otherwise maybe muscle through hippo.

:mamoswine::umbreon::hippowdon::volcanion:
One mon that the three pokemon ahead of this slot struggles with a lot is galarian weezing. Although mamo does a pretty good job of threatening weezing with spear esp with rocks up if its tries to switch in, mamo himself doesnt particularly like switching INTO weezing and as such volcanion came into the picture. Not only a very good geezing switch in, volcanion also doubles as a blanket check to all waters which could be annoying given the three in front of volc dont exactly want to eat stray scalds and whatnot so volc seemed like a natural inclusion. As for the set I decided to go with a trapped volc with fire spin+taunt. This is convenient for being spot removal for some mons such as slowbro who might want to pivot into volc to scout clicks before going into a more conditional volc answers and in general being able to just act as a secondary special breaker alongside mamo is very convenient. Tera dark is so that you can always trap and ko ur standard cm slowbros but you could also run tera ground to catch something like rotom-heat off guard who can legitimately be a big threat to the squad

:mamoswine::umbreon::hippowdon::volcanion::weezing-galar:
Another defensive piece to the team, with 3/4 ahead of him being grounded and volc being weak to rocks if it ever finds its boots knocked off, removal felt like a necessary add and I've been finding geezing to just be an incredibly solid pick for a while now. Poison/Fairy typing is also just super useful when paired with levitate giving us a ground immune a host of other useful resists. The set itself is pretty standard, you can flip flop will-o vs toxic which is up to personal preference. Will-o is nice diversifying the types of status you have on the team since umbreon already has tox but tox can be useful in its own right for some of the same reasons as it was useful on umb to bait tpoisons or just steels/poisons in for mamo. Tera steel is also pretty standard as it was before bc floating steel type is very useful. I mentioned how mamo can pressure geezing on the swap which is true but only if the geezing isnt willing to burn tera bc afterwards it comes one of mamos strongest most consistent answers.

:mamoswine::umbreon::hippowdon::volcanion::weezing-galar::zapdos-galar:
Finally I wanted a little bit of speed on the team and gapdos just popped up as probably the premier choice scarfer in the tier. Knockturn can never be understated how great it is taking off lefties or boots from guys so hippos sand + hazard damage can stick or creating opening for guys like volcanion or mamo to get in off uturn pivots. Of course gapdos also just hits like a truck with its dual stabs being basically unopposed within the tier. Another underrated part of the gapdos's kit I also want to highlight real quick too is the defensive profile it gets by virtue of typing and defensive stats. But being another ground immune as well as well as a backup resist to the fighters and a potential knock sponge is pretty cool. The tera here can be whatever you want. Tera flying is more traditional for stronger bbs but I also enjoy tfighting not concedeing a rocks weak on tera while also not having to sack ur hp to the brave bird recoil.

As far as results, I passed this team to ciel in rubd and it won that week so that was pretty cool and I also brought it to one of my earlier seasonal rounds which it also did pretty well in. Otherwise I laddered a LOT with this a few weeks back and peaked like 1660s or 1670s or smth before it became tedious to look for games. There are a couple mons that are very annoying to this team with the main one that jumps out to me being cm taunt fezandipiti so be on the watchout vs that mon. shotouts flam picking up this project again and good luck to all builders!

I like that mamo is just cheerleading in both these games, cool team

:bronzong: :umbreon: :mamoswine: :weezing galar: :zapdos galar: :suicune:

Yaaaa, teambuilding comp is back. This team was initially designed around the defensive core of bronzong+umbreon, but mamo is here to give some wallbreaking power.

:pmd/bronzong: Bronzong has become one of my favourite defensive mons to use, specifically because it screws over mamoswine insanely hard, while also being very difficult to switch in. I went with an iron defense set, which can allow bronzong to sweep at times. Tera dark resist the dark and ghost moves its weak to in order to let it take those hits in a pinch.

:pmd/umbreon: Umbreon is the main special wall of this team, and is a crucial piece in order to keep mamo, gapdos and suicune healthy.

:pmd/mamoswine: I needed some firepower for this team, so I decided on banded mamo. If its able to hit the field and get the right predicts, something is going down. Tera ice boosts the power of icicle crash and ice shard to allow mamo to secure much more ranges.

:pmd/weezing: We needed a fighting resist and something that could remove for teammates. In comes geezing with a standard set to wall fighting types. 92 speed evs outspeeds bulky bisharp so you can wisp them before they attack.

:pmd/zapdos galar: Next up, we have the speed control of the team, zapdos galar. This is just a standard set, which is nice to help revenge kill opposing mons.

:pmd/suicune: Finally, I had a bit of a flex slot. I did consider slowbro, but I instead decided on suicune. This is a 2A set which I have found to be quite good. It can pray on pokemon such as volcanion and slowbro which think they can stop suicune temporarily by hitting them really hard. Tera ghost boosts the power of shadow ball, while also giving it a fighting immunity, crucially allowing it to completely ignore seismic toss from chansey.

Freeze-Dry on Mamo has always been a nice tech when fat Waters are everywhere, and SV RU is one of those metas with Slowbro, Quagsire, and the rarer Gastrodon. We use it in conjunction with Gyarados, who loves Mamoswine baiting and OHKOing Quag with Freeze-Dry.

:mamoswine::gyarados:
The duo I talked about in the intro. OHKO Quag with Freeze-Dry and hopefully sweep with Gyarados.

:weezing-galar:
No boots means Defog is mandatory. Geezing gives an in to pretty much any physical attacker, but it can easily be overwhelmed so it mandates running an offensive team.

:kleavor:
Scarf Kleavor brings speed control, fast U-turn and Stealth Rock.

:goodra-hisui:
General special sponge to give a buffer against Horoark/Volcanion/Armarouge etc. Also prevents Oricorio from getting free sweeps.

:toxicroak:
Toxicroak invalidates mono attacking Suicune and is another tool to pressure Waters to ease Gyara sweeps. Tera'ing means you also invalidate non-Body Press Slowbro, and you can fish for gunk shot poisons on the likes of Quag too if you feel like gambling. Sucker Punch is useful for the priority.

No one requires Tera to function so use it to counter specific stuff, like Tera Steel on Weezing to stop Bisharp for example.

after being STRONGARMED and THREATENED by local boogeyman Shampoke, I created a team.
:mamoswine: - :volcanion: - :fezandipiti: - :magnezone: - :weezing-galar: - :barraskewda:
Click above for the team!

The idea was simple: have a volt-turn core that contained Mamoswine. This would maximize the amounts of time Mamoswine could enter the field, and thus allow the mammoth to use his amazing breaking power to click buttons and remove items on switch-ins.

:mamoswine: the swinster himself, running a standard set with Never-Melt-Ice instead of HDB cause I wanted an item that would increase my damage, but I didn't want to be locked into moves with CB (although with how I use Mamo, it probably would be a better idea to run CB), so a 1.2x damage increase to Icicle Crash and my main Priority move was my choice. Tera Ice was my saucy pick of the day since I literally just wanted to maximize my Ice damage, hazards be damned.

:volcanion: next up I decided that the partner in crime for Mamoswine would be Volcanion. Not only to do ok into opposing Volcanion and have an actual "switch-in", but also because I think they pair really well together offensively, particularly in both pressuring the steels of the tier which can open up a game path for Fez to go to town, along with generally just being able to cover large swaths of the metagame together.

:fezandipiti: one half of the FezMag core, is able to act as a psuedo-special wall and generally wear down threats with toxic chain procs. Also can act as a very threatening wincon, you all know what fez is. Fez is goated, Fez is life.

:magnezone: The other half of the FezMag core, doesn't have magnet pull but that's ok because specs analytic does well enough. If I was a better builder I'd surely find a better set but it works well enough as part of the VoltTurn core especially with our next contestant coming up.

:barraskewda: The Killer Fish From San Diego is here and is ready to click Flip Turn. Other than that, has great coverage and pairs well with Fez and Mag as the supportive third wheel to their relationship and generally just does what a fish does. I decided to go with coverage over Aqua Jet since Mamoswine already does priority well enough.

:weezing-galar: Geezing is here to do what it always does. Acts as a phenomenal physical wall, and is able to remove the hazards that threaten this team and especially Mamoswine. Spreads burn, clicks WoW, does what it does and does it well.

REPLAY ZONE
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2295823754?p2
Vs. Jakkkkkka
A shifty two-part game where the first goal of breaking Umbreon was achieved, and then brawling it out from there. Volcanion honestly is such a bad match-up for this team, but I'm able to win, even with me throwing away my Weezing on a EP predict. A good game where everyone (ignore Weezing dead in the back alley) pulled their weight

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2295828252
Vs. Xibalbaa
Choice Scarf Volcanion. Need I say more?
Well I will.
A close game where a lot of sacs needed to be made, but Mamoswine pulls through by being the goat, and Magnezone pulls through by not getting flinched. Everyone ACTUALLY pulls their weight this time, with Weezing showing why it's on the team by singlehandedly stuffing out the RestoChesto Mence.

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2296559826
Vs. madeofbannana
Mamoswine's sheer prescence and ability to OHKO almost everyone they had cause a turn 5 victory for yours truly in an incredibly stacked (4 person) room tour

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2296558111
Vs. VaporeonUser
An early read with spec analytic tera blast eliminates Kilowattrel safely, and lets me threaten guaranteed OHKOs anytime IT enters the field. Combine that with volc and it's an easy dub.

IMPROVEMENTS THAT COULD BE MADE IF YOU TRY IT OUT YOURSELF
The Magnezone set could be improved surely, Volcanion could probably get away with running like taunt instead of Body Press, Mamoswine could be made into not NMI, Fez's move could be changed to Alluring Voice (although this weakens you into the Bisharp MU, but also prevents them from getting boosts off spA drops. Win some lose some?) to win the Suicune MU, Barraskewda could possibly have a better tera like psychic and possibly get away with an item like Mystic Water over HDB.
Galarian Weezing is perfect.

Bandswine + Moonlight Umbreon
:jirachi: :mamoswine: :reuniclus: :talonflame: :umbreon: :volcanion:

Fun Mamo team I made a couple of weeks after it dropped, and I think it is probably the most successful composition I've had with it. Just a pretty fat core with a physical and special wall breaker.

:jirachi: Standard support Rachi, but it does what it needs to do excellently, providing Rocks for the team + broken Encore. Iron Head to wear stuff down.

:mamoswine: I don't think that Mamoswine is as crazy of a breaker as some people have made it out to be, although it is definitely alright at its job, as Ice and Ground STAB can go pretty crazy. I think that anything besides banded is kind of underwhelming, so this team is built around taking advantage of it while covering for its weaknesses, so covering for some of its best switch-ins, like Gweezing, is important.

:Reuniclus: Reuniclus is the first to serve this role of a Gweezing switch-in, filling this niche while also serving as a bulky set up option late game. This is meant to be a psuedo-Mamoswine check with Covert Cloak, denying the possibility of flinching down with Icicle Crash, and Tera Water providing a resistance to the move. Of course, this can be a moot point if the Mamoswine is carrying Knock Off, but if they do decide to click the very clickable Icicle Crash, they will pretty much never 2HKO you with the move, even if Banded. Also beats Slowbro with the speed creep.

:talonflame: Talonflame is the defogger, can also burn stuff to break stuff down in the long term, additional switch in to Gweezing as well.

:Umbreon: Though WishPass Umbreon may be decent here with two wallbreakers lacking recovery, I think that dual status + Moonlight works really phenominally, as the slower nature of the team really desires some T-Wave support, but having Toxic on Umbreon is always an invaluable tool. Just provides the best of both worlds, though it does pass off some longevity for the rest of the team.

:Volcanion: You know what Volcanion does, the main main switch-in to Gweezing, firing off high power Steam Eruptions to break down everything. Earth Power over Body Press to deal with opposing Volcanions, and enough speed to outrun standard sets, as it can be very annoying for the rest of the squad to deal with.

:Mamoswine: / :zapdos-galar: / :klefki: / :Noivern: / :Volcanion: / :necrozma:

I built a very basic bulky offense around what I think is a neat mamo set, nevermeltice freeze dry mamo. With some special attack investment, mamo can 2hko slowbro on the switch with freeze dry. Since slowbro is typically so free on mamo, it’s easy to call it coming in the first time.
Zapdos is obligatory speed control, klefki has magician so it can twave Bisharp coming in and remove some items to help spikes damage stick, Noivern provides Defog if needed but will rarely be clicked, mainly is just here to be a fast mon that can start breaking down jirachi. Volcanion provides useful resistances and typing while threatening out physically defensive mons and getting a burn on slowbro. Necrozma provides rocks and some contact punishing for other zapdos as well as another source of knock off.

:mamoswine::lucario::armarouge::maushold::bisharp::oricorio-pom-pom:

the team is nothing special it's just an average HO but it's here to showcase one particular mamoswine set: Lead, there are many great leads in RU, like Lycanroc Dusk and Terrakion, they don't really work well on their own, Lycanroc doesn't have enough move slots to be both a lead and threatening and Terrakion lacks priority (kleavor is fake we don't mention that guy), oblivious also helps in that role as you get a taunt immunity, useful for the HO mirror where other leads may want to taunt you. Earthquake Enderavor and Ice shard allows you to be very threatening as nothing can safely take all of these moves, endeavor being particularly great for weezing-galar and other fat blobs that may want to shrug off your hits, it's only big flaw is Jirachi but that's Armarouge fodder so that's fine, while it's lack of Taunt means it doesn't fit well HO teams that particularly despise stealth rocks, on ones that don't mind much it can be very threatening like no other lead, giving you that sweet offensive pressure from turn 1

Thank you to all of our participants this week, we got some great submissions to choose from! Please choose your two favorite teams below; voting ends Sunday, February 9th at 8pm GTM -6.

:mamoswine::umbreon::hippowdon::volcanion::weezing-galar::zapdos-galar: Loaded Dice + Trailblaze Mamoswine BO by Ming549
:bronzong::umbreon::mamoswine::weezing-galar::zapdos-galar::suicune: CB Mamoswine + Offensive Suicune BO by Heatranator
:mamoswine::Gyarados::Weezing-Galar::kleavor::goodra-hisui::Toxicroak: Freeze-Dry Mamoswine Offense by fluff!!
:mamoswine::volcanion::Fezandipiti::magnezone::Weezing-Galar::barraskewda: FezMag + Mamoswine Offense by Elec-ant1234
:jirachi::mamoswine::reuniclus::talonflame::umbreon::volcanion: CB Mamoswine + Cloak Reuniclus BO by HoopsspooH
:mamoswine::zapdos-galar::klefki::noivern::volcanion::necrozma: Mixed Freeze-Dry Mamoswine + Roar Volcanion BO by THE_CHUNGLER
:mamoswine::lucario::armarouge::maushold::bisharp::oricorio-pom-pom: Lead Mamoswine + Kee PomPom by Canard

My votes go to Elec-ant1234 for their FezMag core and Heatranator for bringing Bronzong and offensive Suicune to the party.

I'll go for chungler and heatranator because they managed to balance out viability and some originality in the necrozma, magician keys, freeze-dry mamo and zong slots better than the others in my opinion

:salamence: :sv/salamence: Week Two: Salamence :sv/salamence: :salamence:

1739197748901.png

From the land to the skies, we're transitioning from one powerhouse to another! This weeks subject is Salamence, a valuable presence on balance, bulky offense, and hyper offense teams alike for its brute strength and dependable typing. With access to both physical and special STAB attacks like Draco Meteor, Hurricane, and Outrage, this pseudo legendary packs a mighty punch. Along with its potent offensive capabilities, Salamence is quite flexible in nature because of its two great abilities in Intimidate and Moxie, allowing it to better act as a bulky wallbreaker or devastating setup sweeper as needed.

As one of the most flexible options in the builder, Salamence rewards creativity like few others can. Are you going to use a bulky special attacking set to handle defensive cores with ease? Or maybe go on the offensive with Dragon Dance + Moxie boosting to become nigh unwallable? A few people have even opted to use it on bulkier stall teams, using its access to Breaking Swipe and Roar to disrupt unsuspecting foes. Regardless of what set you choose, Salamence will likely be an imposing threat for the opponent and valuable asset to your team; the submission deadline will be Friday, February 14th, at 3pm GMT -6.

Triple Choice Rain
:politoed: :barraskewda: :salamence: :forretress: :bellibolt: :basculegion f:

:pmd/politoed: We start off with politoed as the rain setter. This is just a standard trapping set, which can help against problematic pokemon such as CM slowbro in a pinch.

:pmd/barraskewda: Next up, we have the required barraskewda. Not much else to talk about with this set, standard set to do big damage.

:pmd/salamence: Now we have the main pokemon this week is around. This salamence is choice specs, which can deal a large amount of damage. In rain, hurricane never misses and hydro pump's damage will be boosted by 1.5x. With intimidate, it can also help defensively by weakening physical attackers. Draco and hurricane are stabs, hydro pump does solid damage in rain to steel types, and flamethrower can help deal with them if rain isn't up, while helping a lot in the sun matchup. Tera water boosts the power of hydro pump while also making mence resist ice, which can help against mamoswine or a-tales.

:pmd/forretress: I hate that I have to use this mon, but its important for the team to function. Stealth rock to help with offensive pressure, body press to do damage, volt switch to get out of battle, rapid spin to remove hazards. Eject button helps forretress take a hit to pivot into teammates.

:pmd/bellibolt: Bellibolt is the electric type of the team that also functions as the special sponge of the team. Thunder and volt switch are good stab options, with thunder hitting really hard and volt switch getting in teammates. Weather ball can hit ground types that may wall it, and tera blast fairy can surprise dragon types like cyclizar that think they can wall it.

:pmd/basculegion f: Finally, we have hersculegion, the special cleaner of the team. Standard set, with tera water to have powerful boosted surfs.

Mixed Salamence BO
:rs/salamence::bw/bisharp::dp/hippowdon::xy/klefki::rb/slowbro::xy/talonflame:

:pmd/salamence: The team's star. I picked the mixed set because this is the better set in BO in I wanted to build BO. That's it really (and it's also strong).

:pmd/bisharp: Bisharp is a great teammate of mixed Salamence, the latter luring in physical walls such as Weezing-G:weezing-galar:, Slowbro:slowbro: and Hippowdon:hippowdon: and weakening them so that Bisharp can sweep in late game. The speed EVs allows Bisharp to outspeed full speed adamant Crawdaunt:crawdaunt:.

:pmd/hippowdon: Hippowdon is your classic physical wall mainly dealing with Zapdos-G:zapdos-galar: and also setting up the SR.

:pmd/klefki: Klefki is the special wall of the team that can deals with Goodra-H:goodra-hisui: and Gardevoir:gardevoir:. It also sets up the Spikes so that we can hazards stack. I chose the Choice Band:choice_band: + Switcheroo set because this annoy Choice Scarf:choice_scarf: Gardevoir:gardevoir: that wants to Trick our Klefki.

:pmd/slowbro: Slowbro is an additional physical wall but is also a sweeper thanks to Calm Mind, the speed EVs allows it to outspeed 0 speed Quagsire:quagsire:, Palossand:palossand:, Forretress (-speed):Forretress: and Bronzong:Bronzong:. Psychic Noise is preferred to Psychock here to win vs Quagsire:quagsire:, CM Slowbro:slowbro: and CM Reuniclus:Reuniclus:. Slowbro also servs as a Knock Off absorber and an Ice resist for Salamence, which is really needed since Mamoswine:mamoswine: dropped.

:pmd/talonflame: Talonflame servs as a defoger than can deals with physical breaker with its ability and Will-O-Wisp. It's also a secondary switch-in to fairy type moves.

Sludge Saturday Balance featuring MixedMence
:muk-alola::weezing-galar::salamence::registeel::slither-wing::Raikou:

I love myself some boring teams with reliable sets, and this is as boring but reliable as they come.
:salamence: MixedMence is the main offensive presence on this balance team, being strong and difficult to wall while also having longevity and great typing. Salamence is my friend, and friends always hit their hurricanes. I went with a hasty (-def) nature here since the team was really really weak to Volcanion with the standard -spdef nature.
:muk-alola: Salamence can sometimes struggle with low up-front damage and difficulties with Umbreon. That's where Muk-alola comes in. Muk is great at knocking off items, allowing your stealth rock to amplify Salamence's damage while also switching in wonderfully to Umbreon. Umbreon is the only mon that can fearlessly switch into Mence, and Muk turns umbreon into a chance to force some progress.
:weezing-galar: Big Weez is here to support Muk's ground weakness and make up for Mence's -defense nature with another fighting resist. I'm starting to just rely on Gweezing for everything. I had avoided it for so long because it can have longevity issues and defog feels bad to use, but on teams where you can live with hazards being up like this one, defog is great. And being a ground immune not weak to ice or rock is real nice vs Rhyp and Swine.
:slither-wing: RU's favourite little sweety. Slither-Wing is here for some u-turn cred and the always-needed fighting type. It also helps to have priority on this team, due to the lack of a scarfer.
:registeel: Ol' reliable Registeel. Team needs a Gardevoir resist, team needs a Fezandipiti resist, team needs a rocker, that means that Registeel fits. It's a hazard setter, it's a win condition, it's a Registeel.
:raikou: I went through a lot of variations of the team with different mons in the place of Slither-wing and Raikou. I ended up settling on this duo for the volt-turn action as well as being the only setup with good type synergy, priority and good speed. CM+vbolt switch is a heat set. This lets raikou function both as a pivot and a sweeper depending on what the game calls for. Scald hurts any volt-immunes, with +1 scald being a near-gauranteed ohko on krook and tera water +2 scald being a clean OHKO on hippowdon, whgile volt switch into slither wing hurts cyclizar and Hoodra much more than aura sphere.

Now that my ssnl set is over, I’ll post the team I won with.

:salamence: / :umbreon: / :gardevoir: / :jirachi: / :volcanion: / :golurk:

DD mence is one of the absolute best sweepers in the tier with an infinite number of sets factoring in all of the tera types this thing can run. For this team, I wanted to use one of my favorites that I think I first saw in SCL from entrocefalo or TheFranklin, I can’t remember who. Facade is great because it turns mence into a great volcanion switch and allows you to start boosting on gweezing while they power up your stab with wisp. Even getting paralyzed isn’t the end of the world if you’ve already started to boost. Tera normal while powering up your facade is not a terrible defensive typing for mence as mence resists fighting pre-tera and otherwise gets important neutralities to ice and fairy. The evs are really just to outspeed scarf gardevoir +1 gyara after a boost. Max hp to try and bulk out some hits, +attack adamant to boost mence’s highest stat, and the rest dumped into spdef not for anything in particular. Feel free to play around with the evs and adjust to your liking as they’re not perfectly optimized, but I wouldn’t go any slower on the speed.

Umbreon felt like a natural fit as this mence really does not give 1 fuck about weezing unlike most dd mence, and can surprise KO it depending on how fast the opponent catches on. Even if the opponent catches on to mence and preserves their weezing, we can still throw wishes over to mence anytime the weezing comes in on umbreon. Taunt volcanion is one of the special attackers that umbreon hates seeing, so facade mence taking that steam eruption when needed helps keep the pressure off our special wall.

Gardevoir gives us some speed control, cleaning potential, and healing wish that can set up the mence endgame. Umbreon and gardevoir are a nice pairing as well, since gard hates seeing jirachi on the other side of the field, but umbreon can feast on jirachi teams where it’s the only toxic immunity. Gardevoir can also really abuse any Pokemon going for tera poison to dodge umbreon’s toxic.

The team needed a steel type, ground type and stealth rocks for sure, so I go with the classic utility rachi to check a few of those boxes. Really nothing much to say here but u-turn helps get the right pieces in at the right time. I kind of hate this rachi set since without body slam you can’t duel as many pokemon, but its already looking like I won’t be able to fit enough knock off on the team to really support bslam rachi by knocking off rocky helmets.

I’ve tried a few combinations in these last 2 slots, gligar and 2 attacks CM suicune was a route I took, which I did like quite a bit in testing but doesn’t feel like the best option. I am either going to have to fit removal here or some mons that can live with hazards. I’m usually inclined to not fit removal because I really hate all of our options, and in this gen you can never have good enough removal that keeps ‘em off all the time.

The team has some mediocre speed control, some nice defensive pivots, and an oppresive wincon. Right now we’re a bit low on immediate power. Ok, well if I want something that can really hit hard and I’m not going to fit removal, my brain immediately goes to Volcanion and Armorouge, in my opinion they’re the gold standard for boots breakers in the tier. They also both happen to come in on and bully weezing, especially after catching a wish from umbreon, so that’s a plus. I already have 2 psychic types and the team isn’t loving knock off from anything, so I go with volcanion to have a decent lead vs. gzap.

After trying gligar and feeling like it was ok not great, Flampoke suggested sub Golurk. It’s more susceptible to spikes but doesn’t care much about rocks. Especially sub sets that can run lefties. I’ve used sub lurk before, but I think on this team I loved it even more than I ever have. It’s so hard to switch into and can usually take a hit to trade back hard. Sub is nice on forced switches and dynamic punch confusions. There isn’t a super inspiring last move to run on this guy anyway.

overall very happy with how this team performed in testing and on ladder. In my seasonal round it kind of pulled amazing matchups against the same rain team which didn’t tell me a whole lot I didn’t already know. Hope you give this team a try!
