XY OU Rate my 1st Team!

Hy everyone. So, I'm in Pokemon since some years already but havn't done any strategic team since using Big Bad Pokemon worked pretty good for the few battles I've made in the online but I really wanted to do some nice strategic teams for my amusement so my lack of experience may be really apparent even if I've already won a couple battle with it and I'm not against a little help :

Goodra @ Expert Belt
Ability : Gooey
Evs : 252 HP / 252 SpAtt. / 4 SpDef.
Nature : Modest
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Sludge Wave

Because I'm romantic, I wanted to build a team with only Pokemon that my gf finds cute so I decided to build it around Goodra. If played against Pokemon that hit Special, the good SpDef. of Goodra seems to give it some staying power despite a lack of HPs. But his prime job is to cover the maximum of type with the classic BoltBeam combo. Flamethrower is in case of a Magnzone. Sludge Wave is against Fairy type that BoltBeam + Flamethrower don't hit enough like Clefable or Gardevoir.

Lucario @ Life Orber
Ability : Justified
EVs : 252 Att. / 4 Def. / 252 Spd
Nature : Adamant
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Extreme Speed

He is the second part of the core of this team with Goodra since I thought that Dragon & Steel mixed pretty well. He is replacing M-Mawile that is banned but Lucario have the advantage to fit well where M-Mawile was. Swords Dance when placed well raise the Att. of Lucario. Extreme Speed is here to revenge kill already hurted ennemies even if Ice Punch or something like that could give more coverage. Iron Head & Close Combat are the two main stab that hit pretty well a lot of Goodra Icy/Fairy threat

Excadrill Leftovers
Ability : Mold Breaker
EVs : 252 HP / 4 Att. / 252 Spd
Nature : Careful
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Toxic

I choose him for the same reason as Lucario, he fits pretty well with Dragon and Fairy and is not too threatened by some common M-Mawile counters like M-Charizard X, Heatran or Chandelure. Rapid Spin to get rid off the entry hazards, Earthquake & Iron Head for the stab over the excellent Att. of Excadrill and the not-so-bad coverage. Toxic is to annoy and preparing the ennemy for a M-Mawile / Goodra assault.

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability : Huge Power
EVs : 228 HP / 252 Att. / 12 Def. / 16 Spd
Nature : Adamant
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Knock Off

This set is supposed to give to Azumarill a good staying power. The priority of Aqua Jet give it the possibility to be a good revenge killer. Waterfall is the main stab with Play Rough and give Azumarill the power that Aqua Jet don't have. Knock Off is firstly to bitch slap the ennemies object and secondly to give a little more coverage against some of his personal threat like Gengar or Gourgeist.

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability : Technician
EVs : 248 HP / 44 Att. / 16 Def. / 200 Spd
Nature : Adamant
- U-Turn
- Roost
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch

Maybe the Scizorite isn't the best object here. In my mind, the choice between M-Scizor and M-Mawile was difficult and I thought that it will depend on the situation. This set is made to give (M-)Scizor the possibility to switch when Bullet Punch even with Technician/Stab isn't enough to beat the ennemy and Roost isn't enough to save his life. I think that this set have something wrong but haven't disappointed me yet !

Uxie @ Focus Sash
Ability : Levitation
EVs : 196 Att. / 60 SpAtt. / 252 Spd
Nature : Naive
- Stealth Rock
- Fireblast
- Explosion
- U-Turn

The Super-Annoyer. He may be the last on this list but the first when it's time to battle. He throw the entry hazard, Fireblast for a possible Forretress or an Excadrill enemy supposed to do the same, U-Turn when it smell bad for him and Explosion when he's to weak to continue to seriously hurt or even kill the opponent. The Focus Sash give him the ability to survive even the strongest hit (If played before the entry hazard) when he play Stealth Rock and survive for a switch or a suicide bombing !

So, if you see how I can improve this team, let me know !

PS : Very sorry for my bad english, I'm from the land of wine, cheese and triangular trade !

Ow Shit... So my personnal mini-war between M-Mawile and M-Scizor just took a dramatic end. I'll think of an alternative for M-Mawile.

Fortunately, I have a good Lucario who can fit the role of M-Mawile. I have read somewhere else that M-Mawile wasn't banned but haven't confirmed my source. My bad! I edited the thread !

Hey man, cool team! I like dedication you put forth. Your team has just about what every team needs, and also congrats on your first RMT. Let's get right into the rate, shall we?

okay first off, we're going to dive right into Goodra's set and EVs. First thing I noticed wrong, we're the EVs and the Item. I know during battle the extra power provided from E-Belt is awesome but let's face it, he should have Assualt Vest. Assault Vest set allows you to switch-in to some of the most common SpAtk Threats in the current metagame. Assualt Vest is a recommended set and very popular amongst almost ever player choice band is a route you could take as well as life orb but as stated previously, not very common and looking at the structure and build of your team, Assualt Vest variant would benefit you a lot more. I recommend you use this variant, here, try this set:

Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Dragon Tail / Thunderbolt

The reason why i chose the item and EVs were listed below:

  • An Assault Vest boosts Goodra's already high natural Special Defense to extraordinary levels, taking even certain super effective hits incredibly well.
  • Sap Sipper is the ability of choice, giving Goodra a free switch into Grass-type attacks and boosting Dragon Tail's power.
  • Maximum Special Attack investment with a Modest nature lets Goodra hit as hard as possible.
  • 248 HP EVs boost Goodra's good natural bulk, while reducing residual damage.

On to the next Pokemon, we have Lucario. To be honest, Lucario doesn't fit your team not to mention, the Aegislash suspect rolled around so you get completely walled by Aegislah and other ghost types such as the big threat Gengar that is very common. I would honestly switch Lucario out for a much need Pokemon such as Landorus-T as looking farther in your team, it doesn't appreciate sand teams nor does it appreciate Talonflame or birdspam alone. So I would definitely add Lando-T for a nice check to those, try this set:

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

Again, I'll get into further explanation on why I chose this mon and it's set and desired EVs.
Check the reasonings listed below:

  • Full HP investment and 240 EVs in Defense are crucial for Landorus-T to handle the likes of Talonflame, Excadrill, and Mega Pinsir.
  • 8 Speed EVs are enough to outspeed Modest Magnezone while still having a slow U-turn to take a hit and pivot out to another teammate.
  • 8 Special Defense EVs are run to prevent Mega Manectric from OHKOing with Hidden Power Ice.
  • If outspeeding Bisharp and Jolly Tyranitar is necessary for the team, then 104 Speed EVs can be run to outrun them.
  • Leftovers is important to keep Landorus-T healthy throughout the battle.

As mentioned in the Third point above, it states you can run 104 Speed to outrun jolly Tyranitar or Bisharp. I guess looking at your team, they can be annoying and possibly dent your team. So I recommend replacing Azelf for Def Garchomp, and I'll tell you why. Here, try this set:

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 76 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

Again this switch isn't necessary, but it can help against you Tyranitar and Bisharp weakness. Refer to the points below:
  • Rocky Helmet in main item of choice for this set. Also tied with Rough Skin so it punishes physical attackers for 30% of their HP every time they make contact.
  • The EV spread gives Garchomp the Special Defense needed to survive powerful hits from Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y, Landorus, Gengar, Keldeo, and Mega Diancie, while still retaining the optimum amount of physical bulk.
  • The Speed EVs enable Garchomp to outspeed neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon such as Bisharp and Breloom, as well as Jolly Tyranitar.
  • However, as stated earlier, I said an alternative EV spread of 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe can be used to outspeed Jolly Bisharp, which is critical against Swords Dance variants, as a +2 Sucker Punch will never OHKO Garchomp, which KOes it back with Earthquake.

Now onto your Excadrill, I like the toxic innovation but I much rather feel that a choice scarf variant would much rather benefit this team, not only outspeeding threats for important kills, but having choice scarf almost guarantees a rapid spin. Try this set listed below:

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

This set compliments your team a lot more and can change the outcome of most games. Refer the the points below:

  • Mold Breaker enables Excadrill to smack many Pokemon that trouble other Ground-types, such as Rotom-W and Cresselia. One of Excadrill's biggest flaws is its Speed which sometimes can ruin his raw power.
  • Fortunately, Choice Scarf easily patches that problem. An Adamant nature complements Excadrill's high Attack stat, and it is preferred over a Jolly nature because Excadrill appreciates the Attack boost more than outspeeding Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T, which comfortably handles Excadrill anyway and may also be running a Jolly nature.
Now on to your next Pokemon. We have Azumarill. I actually love This Pokemon due to it's strong hits and great coverage options. At this point if you have taken my word for the Goodra set and made the switch the you don't need double Assualt Vest users. You have 1 of 2 you can run here. First we have Choice Banded variant which is great for hard hits and you need him for longevity. Secondly, we have Belly Drum Variant which absolutely hits like a truck and runs right through teams not prepared for this.

Below, I'm going to drop both sets and it your choice on what you would like to use. Here, try these:

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off/Superpower

Your last Pokemon I highly recommend switching it to Garchomp to help against Bisharp and Tyranitar. But like the thread says, this is just a team rate forum and I can't force you to switch anything. Take all this into consideration but if you truly feel that you need Azelf try this set:

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 196 Atk / 60 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Explosion
- Taunt/Skill Swap

That's all for my team rate, other than that, nice team and good luck, fren :]

Hope I helped :]

Thank you really really much for your advices. I will really do what you've told me for Goodra, Excadrill and Azumarill. I think I will keep Azelf since, you know, Garchomp is a big ugly Shark-Dragon-like thing and not cute, women... But I will keep this Garchomp-set for myself ! I have the same problem with Landorus-T, I have a good competitive Landorus-T but he is not cute enough so I will keep it for myself and I thought of an alternative with Gliscor :

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability : Poison Heal
EVs : 252 Atk / 104 Def / 152 SpD
Nature Impish
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- U-Turn
- Stone Edge

* I have the same move set, same nature
* Toxic Orb + Poison Heal restore 1/8 of my HPs for 1/16 with Leftovers
* This repartition of EVs gives the possibility to out-run Jolly Tyranitar and Jolly Bisharp and just a little more Def. than Landorus-T
* I juste lose a little offensive power (295 for Landorus-T with your repartition and 289 for Gliscor)
* He's cuter, not as Mawile or Lucario, but more than Landorus-T !

I also thought of Flygon but I think he's to fragile...
