Ok so this is my first post on this website so if I've done it wrong, I'm sorry:)
This was my first competitive team, and I've tried to make a type diverse team. It's quite simple, with the mind frame being quite offensive. So here it is!:)
Gyarados (M) @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
This is the core of my team. Its Intimidate ability hurts physical attackers, and when it mega evolves, its Mold Breaker abilty allows it to hit Rotom and other Levitate users hard. The moveset and EVs are quite standard, allowing it to be fast and deadly. This Pokemon is a great counter to Heatran, Aegislash and Landorus, especially after a Dragon Dance set up. Gyarados is a great Pokemon which few predict.
Volcarona @ Focus Sash
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Modest Nature
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain
- Will-O-Wisp
This Volcorona functions as a speedy special attacker that my team needs. It has excellent type coverage, with three attacking moves of different types. It is slightly different to the usual Quiver Dance set, but I found that by the time I had set up a Quiver Dance, this frail Pokemon didn't have the turns to properly utilise it. The strategy behind this Pokemon is to, unless a more obvious option exists like using Will-O-Wisp on a physical attacker or using Giga Drain on a water or rock type, use Fiery Dance to hopefully get the special attack boost. From there you can just sweep away with this specially offensive beast.
Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Protect
What to say? Garchomp is a beast! It's speed, power and move type combination make it a great sweeper. This is the standard set for Garchomp, and all I have to watch out for is super effective moves against Garchomp.
Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 100 SpA / 156 Def
Quiet Nature
- King's Shield
- Wide Guard
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
Aegislash provides some balance to my team. Aegislash's ability allows it to be both a defensive member of my team (and King's Shield puts pressure on physical attackers), while being an amazing special sweeper. Aegislash has 0 Speed IVs to try to tank hits in its Shield Forme. Wide Guard allows protection from Earthquake, as well as Rock Slide for Volcorona, Icy Wind for Garchomp and Pixilate Hyper Voice for Mega Gyarados, Machamp and Garchomp, while hitting back hard on many of these common users like Cresselia, Gardevoir, and Sylveon. Aegislash is a team member I simply couldn't leave out.
Machamp @ Assault Vest
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
- Dynamic Punch
- Bullet Punch
This Machamp is a fairly standard Machamp EV set with my own little touches added to the moves. No Guard Dynamic Punch allows guaranteed confusion along with an already high powered move with STAB. Knock Off can be used to remove items from Pokemon that may struggle without them, while providing coverage against phsycic and ghost types. Bullet Punch has priority, which helps with machamps low speed. Ice Punch is used for coverage against dragon and flying types, most notably Salamence, Garchomp, Landorus-T and Thundurus. Assault Vest deals with common special attacks used against Machamp.
Togekiss @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 28 SpD / 4 SpA / 60 Spe
Bold Nature
- Follow Me
- Heal Bell
- Water Pulse
- Air Slash
Togekiss is the Follow Me user of my team. Togekiss draws the attention away from my weaker units to this bulky unit. Heal Bell allows me to heal my team with harmful status such as burn or sleep, which can really have a huge affect on the way I battle, and ruin my offensive strategy. Water Pulse and Air Slash tied with Serene Grace give a high chance to confuse/flinch, and when used together, can really annoy my opponents. Togekiss is a real team player, who is important in my team.
So there you have it: my team! I've experimented with this team, but I can only pick up wins around 50% of the time. I would like you to rate my team: please don't be too kind as I really need to make this work.
A few major concerns I have are:
-My Follow Me user (does Togekiss work well with my team, as it shares many common weaknesses? I am unsure of a different, viable user)
-My EVs (are they OK, or are EVs being wasted in non-useful areas, as I realise I have done a lot of 252/252/4 dumping)
-My Mega (is Gyarados actually of any use?)
-Any other Pokemon that don't fit on my team, or anything I am missing (like should I set up hazards, or have speed control? Are my weaknesses too common?)
Thank-you very much in advance.
