LINEUP:
Hello Guys! After a little lurking and a lot of testing, I have decided to post my team for you guys to tear apart. My main strategy for making this team was to look at the roles I needed (phys wall, sp wall, support, spinner ect.) and choose Pokemon I liked that also fit in nicely. In practice the team does well, but the two heroes seem to be garchomp and vaporeon, and occasionally breloom puts in work. it seems like I might struggle with tanky grass types, as I have no fire attacks and greninja isint a safe switch in on many of them starting out with water dark typing. Yesterday i almost lost to a whimsicott, and I did end up losing to a ferrothorn.
Usual Lead: Forretress
Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EV's: 252 Hp/ 252 Def/ 4 Spd
IV's: 0 Spe
Relaxed Nature
-Stealth Rock
-Gyro Ball
-Volt Switch
-Rapid Spin
This little guy seems to surprise me, in good and bad ways. The way I try to use him is quite obvious, set up rocks and get out, or spin away their hazards first. Forretress really has a solid niche in my team, as he is the only pokemon I would want to be running stealth rocks, as well as my rapid spinner and a physically bulky pokemon. Sometimes I miss having spikes on him, but I feel that rocks are more important this generation to deal with talonflame and charizard. It seems that the two things that break forretress is any, and I do mean any, special attack, and his lack of access to healing.
Secondary Lead/Physical Sweeper: Breloom
Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
Ev's: 4 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
-Mach Punch
-Low Sweep
-Bullet Seed
-Spore
One thing that really surprised me about Breloom is his low speed, he died to a mammoswine because I was sure he would win a priority battle between Ice Shard and Mach Punch. However, this pokemon works wonders when the opponent needs to switch in. I either use low sweep to slow down the incoming pokemon, or spore it to get free hits in or force another switch out. He is a decent answer to ferrothron, who cant seed him, does less damage with power whip, and gyro ball doesn't do much because of his relatively low speed.
Wish Support: Vaporeon
Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EV's: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
-Wish
-Protect
-Scald
-Toxic/Roar
This pokemon is an all star on my team. From handing out massive wish heals to toxic stalling or burning up physical sweepers, vaporeon may look cute, but it will have you raging if you dont play your cards right. vaporeon also helps tank physical hits that forretress cant deal with , namely fire attacks, though it is strong enough to switch into nearly anything. Toxic may get in the way of scald, but it hasn't so far. I usually either go aggressive with scald or try to toxic stall for a bit with protect and wish. The wishes this thing uses have the potential to nearly fully heal many of my crippled pokemon. Overall, one of my favorite pokemon on the team.
Mega Garchomp! Aka: the angel of death
Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EV's 92 HP/152 Atk/164 Spe
Jolly Nature
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Poison Jab
Mega Chomp, the destroyer of worlds is by far my favorite mega and one of the coolest pokemon ever. But on this team he functions as a farily bulky physical sweeper. I often find that people switch in their answer to him, but after taking damage on the switch, the opposing poke can't one shot garchomp and they can't survive two hits. If I start having problems with outrage and fairy types, I will switch to dragon claw, but for now I am still testing this out. I use jolly, and that would be a problem if I wanted to use a special move like fire blast on mega chomp, but I prefer poison jab for that spot, which helps to deal with my grass type problem as well as doing massive damage to slow, unsuspecting fairies.
Special Wall/Physical Attacker: Snorlax
Snorlax @ Assault Vest
Ability: Thick Fat
EV's: 252 Hp/ 4 Atk/ 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
-Return
-Earthquake
-Power up Punch
-Crunch
Of all the pokemon on my team, this one is my least solid. He does amazing against threats like chandelure and gengar, but with no regen aside from wish he just gets whittled down far to often, or blasted to bits by focus blast. Focus blast is such a common move these days, and even though snorlax can usually survive one or two, that chunk of health is staying gone for a while. The fact that assault vest cuts rest really hurts snorlax, but I wanted to try it out in competitive. As far as special defense goes, you mite as well not even try with anything but a fighting attack, because snorlax is going to eat it up while doing damage with his surprising attack stat. I have found that I have to be very careful with mixed attackers who have access to fighting moves like brick break, because snorlax doesn't like being punched.
Greninja: Special Sweeper (tongue tied)
Greninja @ Life orb
Ability: Protean
EV's: 252 SpA/ 4 SpDef/ 252 Spe
Timid Nature
-Hydro Pump
-Dark Pulse
-Ice Beam
-Grass Knot
i started off using greninja with extrasensory over ice beam, and U-turn over grass knot. However in practice I really found I needed those moves. Mega blastiose gets obliterated by stab grass knot, and ice beam helps me put dragons and grass types in their place. There really isin't much else to say here. If there is moves that I need to be using please let me know, but I am happy with this set most of the time.
Thanks for reading guys and I hope to get some good input, happy holidays!
