I would really appreciate advice on my first team. I understand that this team probably has a lot of flaws (especially its major weakness to Fire at the moment), which is why I am posting this thread. I have tested this team a bit on Showdown and I have been pleased with the results since I added Tentacruel to the team in place of specially defensive Heatran. I am reiterating it now that my team has a blatant weakness to Fire and I would appreciate possible changes to the team to remedy this, preferably leaving Rachi and Pinsir.
Pinsir @ Pinsirite
Ability: Moxie
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 184 HP / 4 SDef / 68 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Quick Attack
- Return
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
This is one of the Pokemon that motivated me to make a 6th Gen team. Mega Pinsir's raw power and its unique ability drew me to it like a moth to flame. I really want this to be the staple of the team as a late game sweeper or revenge-killer. Mega Pinsir is probably my favorite Mega Evolution, along with Mega Charizard Y, and it definitely helps that it is an extremely potent physical sweeper. The reason for the small speed investment is to outspeed base 70 speed Pokemon that may want to switch in, such as Cloyster.
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
- U-turn
- Fire Punch
This is the other Pokemon that motivated me to make a team because I have always enjoyed using Jirachi, despite some people's cries of it being cheap. I enjoy the surprise factor people have when they realize my Rachi is scarfed with max attack rather than a typical set. With U-turn I can easily get the drop on Pokes that want to switch out on Rachi or try to surprise me themselves.
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
This is my check to physical attacking threats, especially Mega Kangaskan and other Mega Pinsir. Ferrothorn is also my SR user on the team. His main goal is to attempt to seed an opposing Poke and Thunder Wave on the switch, or protect stall if it wants to stay in for some reason. Ferrothorn has done its job on my team, even when not facing any direct physical attackers it is a potent wall.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Roost
- Draco Meteor
This is my main Special sweeper. I originally intended to use Alakazam in this slot, but he was not proving effective against the Pokemon that I needed him to defeat. Latios is both resistant to Fire with decent bulk, even without investment, and has a sizeable enough movepool that a Life Orb Surf may be realized too late or Draco can be used and take a chunk out of most Pokemon in the OU metagame. This slot is definitely up in the air for me, but so far having Latios in my team has proved potent and increased my win rate. I can see Goodra or even Special Attacking TTar working in this slot too, but they lack the speed and pure firepower that Latios carries. I am also unsure of Roost on this set as I have hardly, if ever, needed to use it, so a 4th attacking move or Defog/Calm Mind may be better. I have also been wondering if Latios would be as effective due to having more Special Defense and aiding my Fire Weakness more.
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Spd / 240 SDef
Calm Nature
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Toxic
This Pokemon is my most recent switch from my original lineup. I originally tried Heatran in this slot to switch in on obvious Fire moves, but he couldn't really touch Air Balloon users easily or Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y. I decided to go with Tentacruel when I discovered how effective Tentacruel is with Forretress. I also needed a spinner to go along with my special defensive wall, and Tentacruel was the only one who fit both of those descriptions that fit my team. Tentacruel and Forretress make for an extremely good early game in my battles, with most opponents not have an answer for it. I can see Rotom-H being a hard counter to this duo, but Tentacruel may be able to switch in on an Overheat and wall it or Toxic it after that.
Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Naive Nature
- U-turn
- Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Thunderbolt
Choice Scarf Genesect is the biggest wildcard on my team, but he has proven effective again and again. I do not know if Bug Buzz or Ice Beam would be better on this set, but I chose Bug Buzz initially just because I wanted a powerful STAB move with max Special Attack investment. Genesect and Jirachi have proven to be a very potent Scarf duo. I doubt that having both with Scarf on the same team is any good however, so I am up in the air about switching out Genesect, or possibly even Rachi (though I would rather not), even though he has proven to be probably the most useful Pokemon on the team since its creation. In place of Bug Buzz, maybe a Flash Cannon since I have only one Steel type move (Iron Head).
If you spot any weaknesses and/or can suggest ways to improve my team, I would greatly appreciate it. It is definitely a work in progress and my first 6th Gen team, but it has worked well so far in its current iteration. I will try any suggestions people make to see how I like them and if they fit well. The main Pokemon I have been experimenting with are my Special attacker(s) and Special wall (Latios and Tentacruel at the moment).
