XY OU Rate my OU M-DD Altaria Team

So I had always wanted to make a team based around Mega-Altaria, and given how strong it is in the current metagame, what better time to make one? My team is built around two themes sweeping with DD mega-Altaria as well as Sand w/ Both Sand stream T-tar as well as sand rush excadrill. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

-More in depth-

altaria-mega.gif

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Return
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake

Mega-Altaria is a force to be reckoned with after one DD it is capable of sweeping teams W/out Priority. Pixilate makes return stab giving it a 30% Stab Boost. Dragon claw is a strong stab, and Earthquake are coverage for Poison and steel types who can rain on Mega-Altaria's day.

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power

Heatran Provides Entry Hazards which are crucial for any team to be successful. Roar prevents Other Pokemon Such as Charizard-Mega (X) from setting up as well as getting in chip damage by cycling through my opponents team. Lava plume is a strong STAB w/ a chance to burn, and earth power is coverage for Fire types such as Charizard-Mega(X) and other Heatrans.

thundurus.gif

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Knock Off
- Superpower

Thundurus_I is a great mixed attacker, due to it having access to knock off one of the best moves in the metagame. Volt switch is stab allowing it to pivot out and gain tempo. HP Ice and Superpower are coverage for ground and steel types.

248.png

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch

T-Tar is a crucial Mon on the team for many reasons, first of all It provides Sand stream which is huge to pokemon such as excadrill doubling it's speed. T-Tar is also a choice scarcer which is huge outspending max speed Timid/Jolly Base 115 speed pokemon. Pursuit is a great option for trapping Psychic and ghost types who try to switch out, Stone edge is Stab, Superpower and Ice punch are coverage for Steel and Ground Types Respectively.

excadrill.gif

Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Excadrill is a huge threat, It has Sand Rush which Doubles It's speed in a sandstorm allowing it outspeed the entire OU metagame. Excadrill also carries rapid spin which removes hazards, which otherwise would hinder my team. Iron head and Earthquake are stab and Rock Slide is coverage for flying types.

slowbro.gif

Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Slack Off
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Psyshock

Slowbro Is a complete wall, with access to calm mind as well as recovery in slack off this thing is gonna be hard for my opponents to take down. Scald and Psyshock are both Stab, Scald has a chance to burn as well making it even better.

Comments and any tips are greatly appreciated thanks

Hi n_n Very Nice team :D , your team is really well balanced just a few flaws I will try to fix them.
  1. So , first of all You probably mistyped u typed d dance times , I think u r running roost so fix that :).
  2. Well Your are not running the standard heatran set so u can switch to that :).
  3. Actually u r running lo Thundurus so u want best damage results , so use Thunderbolt over Volt Switch on Thundurus.
  4. On Tyranitar Ice beam does more damage than ice punch to ice weak Pokes(banded ttar's ice punch does more damage than ice beam but u r running scarf) , Actually u need Crunch on Ttar to deal with Pokemons like Gengar , Mega alakazam these pokes can use focus blast on your ttar instead of switching out so Crunch over ice beam on Tyranitar can work.
  5. You lacks a Mega zard Y switch-in and you are weak to grass knot mega metagross , so Slowking over Slowbro can be used , You already got a set up sweeper so u probably don't need one more so u can try AV Slow king :).
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
- Roar / Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 92 HP / 252 SpA / 164 SpD
Modest Nature
- Power Gem
- ice beam
- Scald
- Psyshock

Thanks for all the tips

1. I fixed Altaria's set, Im actually running dragon claw for the STAB
2. If you actually look on smogon for Heatran, You will actually see that this is specially defensive support set.
3. I prefer Volt Switch over Thunderbolt for the tempo that it gives me, But I may switch due to higher power of T-bolt
4. Ice Punch actually does more damage than ice beam Because I run max attack w/ Jolly nature on my T-tar. I also don't think crunch is necessary due to pursuit and the fact most people won't bring in Gengar/Alakazam Against Tyranitar
  • 252 Atk Tyranitar Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 352-416 (98.5 - 116.5%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
  • 0- SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Garchomp: 284-336 (79.5 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
5. Slowbro is on the team as a physical wall which I otherwise do not have, I also have a preference to it over slowking in general. As far as mega Zard Y switch-in's Im not quite sure, any suggestions. If mega-metagross is running grass Knot, it is not running Ice punch or Earthquake therefore either heatran or Thundurus are safe switch-ins

Hey man, nice team you have here. Let me offer you some advice that may help you in the long run.
  • Change Dragon Claw to Roost on Altaria. -Dragon claw is redundant as Return hits Dragons for more damage and hits other types hard too. Return also gets boosted by Pixilate and STAB so Dragon Claw is not needed. Roost is better to keep Altaria alive longer especially against Pokémon such as Weavile which can do a ton of damage.
  • Change Slowbro to one of the Lati twins. -Not the biggest fan of Slowbro on this team, it loses some momentum. Since Zard-Y is a big threat I would recommend switching it with either a Latios or Latias. Latios gives you more power and can help you deal with Conkeldurr as only Altaria can KO it but it must be careful of Poison Jab or Ice Punch. Latias gives you more defenses and can give you Healing Wish to heal Altaria or T-tar especially if they have been burned. Both get rid of Keldeo which is a big problem to most your team.
Hope this helped. Good luck.
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power Fire
- Roost

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Roost
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

Bro actually they don't update smogdex so its sometimes trash that one is standard that I wrote , why r u running d claw on mega alt? To deal with dragons? Thats what return does , u can't hit stuffs like ferrothorn with dclaw so even fire blast is better than dclaw , d claw has no use. Ice beam does more damage u can check on calc :v , ice beam don't gives you rough skin damage and intimate by lando-t decreases your atk not SpA, Tank chomp runs 248 HP and at least 156 def , lando-t runs full defense investment actually 240 def :p , Metagross runs Meteor mash , Zen headbutt , grass knot and Hammer arm (its a standard set), Zen headbutt deals with thundy-i hammer arm kills Heatran , these aren't safe switch-ins , u can't just add a pokemon to fill a role like defensive Mon , u add a Mon to fill roles like a counter to something , its not important to add a Physical wall. :v
