Hi!
I've been playing pkmn for years but just a month or 2 ago discovered competetive battling. So its fair to say im a complete n00b and I'd appriciate help from more experienced players!
So, Ive built my very first team, and would love to get opinnions / suggestions (all is welcome). Standard OU team : ) Ive been testing this team for a week or two now.
Replacment suggestions are very welcome, however I'd like to be able to use my Sylveon, Dnite and medicham. But if they are brining down my team (for example, if there's a better mega for my team), feel free to tell me so, even they are replacable!
Galvantula- Focus Sash (Lead)
Timid, Compound Eyes
EVs: Speed and SpA
- Sticky Web
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Volt Switch
I had a lot of diffuculty deciding the lead. I was pretty intrigued with the idea of an anti-lead but also thought that a hazard laying lead would work. I ended up with sticky webb over spikes / Stealth rock as my Dnite and medicham appriciate the speed lowering effect (especially as those 2 are my two powerhouses). So Galvantula is there to lay down the web (guaranteed with the sash), then either switch out with volt switch or continue battling. Quite straightforward. HAs worked great so far, my slower pokemon really get going with the speed advantage. Also, if the opponent leads with a scarmory, galvantula is one of the few pkmn in my team that can deal with him if i choose to attack before laying down the webb.
Dragonite - Weakness Policy
Adamant, Multiscale
EVs: Att, Speed
- Dragon Claw
- DD
- Extreamspeed
- Fire Punch (EQ)
A multiscale-dragon dance set. Works great with weakness policy and galvantulas webb: sometimes I dont even need to use DD for the +1 speed and just rely on the wekaness policy boost (though I do tend to try use DD). I also tend to every now and then have Sylevon pass a wish for dnite if he has lost HP before and get multiscale working again.
However, i did have a problem with the 4-movesslots-syndrome. My Dnite has extreemspeed which Ive found extremely helpful as with it he can do some last damage before revenge killed (and with a DD / weaknesspolicy boost it does okay damage too). So choosing between EQ and firepunch was really difficult, as othe other one has a greater coverage and power, but firepunch allows me to deal with scarmory, foretress, excadrill and ferrothorn which give my team quite a lot of trrouble. But then agian my dnite is currently walled by heatran.
Sylveon - leftovers
Bold, Cute Charm
Evs: Def, Hp
- Wish
- Moonblast
- Protect
- Toxic
I really like using Sylveon. Especially as my dragonite (and all other pkmn) lacks a recovery method so wish has been very useful and makes switch in easier. Also serves as a dragon / fighting / Dark check and is quite bulky and has a passable spA even with the bulky investments. Sylveon also wears out bulky opponents with toxic + protect wish. Leftovers to keep it healthy while soaking up hits. Sylveon has been an essential help to this team. However, the always present steeltypes (and a few poisons) quite often ruin my toxic plans if the opponent does a switch.
My sylveon has cute charm as I happen to have a shiny flawless sylveon so pixilate isint really and option. Plus, some lucky attracts have saved me once or twice :D
Greninja - Expert Belt
Timid, Protean
EVs: SpA, Speed
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Extrasensory
My teams special attacker. Also profits for the webb, as it ensures him the first attack over other fast pokemon (like other greninjas) as he is so frail. Classic Protean abuse, usually comes in mid game, and messes around with the typechanges. Once again, choosing the last move was a pain. Thought of hidden power, but then again its power isint that great. U-turns power is nerfed with the timid nature. Grass knot is another option, but ive found extrasensory wuite useful against fighting and poison types which tend to switch into greninja.
Mega Medicham – medichamite
Adamant, Pure Power
EVs: Speed & att
- HiJumpKick
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch
- Bullet Punch
The Megaevolution of my team, which really loves the webb. Bullet punch is there to compensate for medichams low speed before megaevolving and priority is always nice. Plus is hits faeries which medicham has a weakness for. The punches are there for type coverage and hijump kick is a basic STAB. Especially fire punch is there so that she isint completely walled by aegislash. Left out the psychic stab as I thought the punches are more convinient. However, ive heard that substitute could be lethal with medi, but ive found it very diffucult to set up...
Excadrill - Air balloon
Adamant, Mold Breaker
EVs Att & Speed
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Shadow Claw
Spinner. The sixth pkmn in my time was very hard to choose, but I thought Id need a spinner as especially my Dnite appriciates it ability to get rid of spikes. Also is a stopper for pokemon that try to spread toxic to my team. Exca is quite a powerhouse and can counter most spinblockers too. Airballoon gives him a safe switch in if predicted right and ofc is quite useful otherwise too. With the webb layed down correctly, he can outspeed and deal with heatran which is a huge thing for my team (as I have a lot of trouble with him)
Conclusion
So, thats my team. Ive been testing it and its been working ok in my opinnion. Especially if the opponent lacks a spinner / defoger it really works well and i enjoy playing with this team. However, i feel it probably could be even better, so id love some suggestions. It tends to go so that I either win quite straight forward or go down in flames :D
While testing it seems my biggest concerns are certain pkmn. This team has a lot of trouble with azumarill (as only galvantua hasa SE attack for it and he tends to faint early in the game. Sylveon with toxic works too depending on what else my opponent has), heatran and skarmory and pokemon like that. In general, steeltypes are hard, even though both Dnite and Medi carry firepunch. Another threat tends to be Rotom-wash and subsitute users, especially Gliscor. Mega tyranitar isint that easy either, especially in the sandstorm when medis accuracity with hjk is lower.
So, should some movesets be modified or somepokemon be replaced alltogether? Especially Excadrill, would another spinner, like starmie do the job better?
Lastly, THANKYOU so much for your help. I'm a complete n00b and in a real need of help, so I really appriciate it!
