Rate My Team (for a possible Sceptile run)

Hello everyone! I am hoping to make my team better, and I think I got a good grasp of it. I usually can do well on Pokemon Showdown but please tell me if there's something I can do better. Also, I am hoping to add a Sceptile, so it's possible I will switch out one of my team for him.

My first RMT:

Movesets:

My team is made up from unorthodox (to me at least) Pokemon in order to surprise the opponent with my own kind of style.

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
Nature: Jolly (+ Spe, - SpA)
252 HP, 4 SpD, 252 Spe
Team Role: Status/Setup

- Spore
- Stealth Rock
- Sacred Fire
- Whirlwind

I lead off with Smeargle almost every time. The only cases in which I don't lead off with Smeargle is when an Espeon (Magic Guard negates Spore, Stealth Rock and Whirlwind), or Ambipom (Fake-Out breaks Focus Sash, then outspeeds next turn), are on the opposing team. In every other case, Smeargle works really well. Spore works in putting the Pokemon to sleep obviously. From there, I use Stealth Rock. However, if the opposing Pokemon is Grass, I use Stealth Rock from the get-go, making sure I can setup the entry hazards. From there, I use Whirlwind, sending the opposing Pokemon out if they decide to try and boost their stats. It works pretty well in annoying the other opposing trainer, and can make a mess of their team if they have Charizard or Volcarona. Of course, there runs a risk of the opposing trainer using Taunt. However, I use Sacred Fire (which has a 50% chance of Burn) on the Pokemon, with them expecting me to switch out from Smeargle. Smeargle makes a great suicide setup in many different situations. At least I think so.

Yanmega @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
Nature: Modest (+SpA, - Atk)
4 HP, 4 SpA, 252 Spe
Team Role: Revenge

- Protect
- Ancient Power
- Air Slash
- Bug Buzz

My Bro, Yanmega, is my pride and joy. Though he is not the strongest, he fits the team like a glove. Designed for ending Brelooms (I was 5-1 on a Breloom and lost at a con), Yanmega's worth is still high in Generation 6 for me. Protect is for the obvious free Speed Boost, which places Yanmega at +1 immediately. The only problem here, is that if the trainer sometimes predicts the Protect, he switches out or goes for a boost of his own. My second attack is Ancient Power. Hidden Power was nerfed in Generation 6, so Ancient Power is my go-to move against Flying-types. It works particularly well in killing Charizards, and sometimes Talonflame (if I can predict the switch-in or they go for a boost in stats). Ancient Power also helps me finish off Pokemon with low health, in hopes to get a boost in all stats (which turns Yanmega into a monster). Air Slash is a stab Flying-type attack, that can be used sometimes to Flinch a Pokemon that counters Yanmega and delaying the inevitable. Finally, Bug Buzz is a stab Bug-type attack that is Yanmega's bread and butter. It is a very powerful attack and it even hits through Substitute. It should also be said that after one Protect, Yanmega outspeeds Greninja, and OHKOs with Bug Buzz (in most cases).

klefki.png

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Impish (+ Def, - SpA)
252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Atk
Team Role: Status/Stall

- Thunder Wave
- Swagger
- Substitute
- Foul Play

My demonic little set of Boo Boo keys is a terrifying threat in many circumstances. I replaced my Sweeper/Staller Aegislash for this little guy. Klefki stops Sweepers easily. If the opponent has a Sweep going, Thunder Wave stops the Pokemon in their tracks. Even if the Pokemon breaks past Paralysis to faint Klefki, it is already crippled for another one of my Pokemon to setup or take out. In other instances, they will have a Ground-type on their team, in which case I go for Swagger. Confusion is a deadly and annoying status to have in a battle, and though it doesn't last forever, it is helpful in Stalling. Substitute allows me to take hits and wait for the moment which Paralysis/Confusion stops their attack. Foul Play is for Taunt, and helps Klefki take out big threats with high attack. Though I do not like playing Stall, Klefki can be beaten if the opponent knows what to do. The main problem with Klefki is it's check - Blissey. Other than that, Klefki is a force to be reckoned with.

houndoom-mega.png

Houndoom @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire/Solar Power
Nature: Timid (+ Spe, - Atk
4 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Team Role: Sweeper

- Nasty Plot
- Flamethrower
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Bomb

Houndoom is in, my opinion, a very underrated Mega Evolution. There is a misconception that Mega Houndoom is only a threat with the Sun. Solar Power is only icing on the cake however, because Mega Houndoom is still a very good Pokemon. Flash Fire allows me to switch in on a super effective move on Yanmega/Klefki, and lets me gets a free boost to Flamethrower. After Mega Evolving, Nasty Plot adds a boost to Special Attack, already creating a very terrifying Sweep. Mega Houndoom's 115 Speed stat is amazing to say the least, and it's coverage for moveset is very good. Flamethrower is a powerful Fire-type stab and Dark Pulse is a powerful Dark-type stab. Common tanks are Fairy-types, and for that - I have Sludge Bomb. Sludge Bomb does a huge chunk of damage to Togekiss, and OHKOs Gardevoir. It is one of my Pokemon that takes advantage of the weather. Though I do not dedicate my team to Sun or Rain, I make sure we can steal the benefits from the opposing trainer when they setup the Sun or Rain. Mega Charizard Y is OHKO'd by Solar Power Dark Pulse, and Mega Houndoom's typing allows common priority moves to not be very effective (Bullet Punch and Sucker Punch). However, there is the occasional Vacuum Wave that will defeat it. Other than that, Mega Houndoom is pretty frail otherwise. Though it has survived a Brave Bird from Talonflame before, it usually dies very quickly if an attack hits it once.

Omastar @ White Herb
Ability: Shell Armor/Swift Swim (formerly)
Nature: Modest (+ SpA, - Atk)
4 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Team Role: Suicide/Sweeper

- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Ancient Power

One of my favorites, Omastar, is a staple on my team. It was developed to take out Talonflames that plague the Generation 6 metagame. If switched in on a Talonflame, it's GG unless the opponent has a Special Defense wall or Klefki. Omastar counters Talonflame in every way, so they will be forced to switch out, giving me a free Shell Smash. Shell Smash is a devastating boost to stats, and allows Omastar to sweep through Pokemon easily. Surf is a powerful Water-type stab. Ice Beam is for Dragons and Ground-Types. Ancient Power is Rock-Type Stab. Very deadly, but cannot take a Grass-Type attack for anything. Mega Venusaur, Goodra, and Togekiss give Omastar many problems. Omastar can only be used in very seldom situations.

Haxorus @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
Nature: Jolly (+ Spe, -SpA)
36 HP, 252 Atk, 220 Spe
Team Role: Sweeper

- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Dual Chop
- Iron Tail

My love for my Shiny Haxorus in White 2 may cloud my judgement, but Haxorus is not bad either. This is the most odd set I run for him as well. My Haxorus was added to beat up the stalling wall Pokemon that exist (Blissey, Togekiss, Sylveon, etc.) When a stalling, wall Pokemon that uses status conditions comes out, I send Haxorus. Substitute is for a free boost with Dragon Dance and negates their Toxic or Paralysis. The Lum Berry also makes up for this as well if the opposing Pokemon goes first. Dragon Dance is a setup for sweeping. Behind a Substitute, Haxorus can usually protect itself from the stalling wall Pokemon, who probably aren't used to actually attacking a Pokemon directly. With Dragon Dance, Dual Chop is a very powerful Dragon-Type stab. Since Dual Chop hits twice, it can break Focus Sash/Sturdy. Iron Tail is a powerful Steel-Type attack with low accuracy. This is for taking out Fairy-Type Pokemon.

Conclusion:

I had a lot of luck with this team on Pokemon Showdown, but I don't want that to be the judging factor for my team. I've debated trying to replace even one of the Pokemon on this team for a Sceptile, since every Pokemon on my team has their own thought-out purpose they serve. Perhaps life would be easier if they had just given Sceptile a Mega Evolution.

In any case, please give me your thoughts on my team. Is it thought-out well? What would you do differently?

(Replaced Pokemon in the past:
Mega Mawile for Mega Houndoom.
Aegislash for Klefki.
Kingler for Omastar.)
