I am currently working on a new team for b/w
I'm not gonna do anything fancy. I will just explain mindset of the team and roles for each.
Critique and recommendation will be appreciated XD
Team explanation: This team is defensive sandstorm team with lot of entry hazard usage. I use defensive builds to negate as much damage as possible while forcing them to switch pokemons and receive entry hazard damage.
Team consists of these pokemons:
Tyranitar Reuniclus Scizor Roserade Donphan Milotic
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 64 SAtk / 192 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
Standard mixed set tyranitar. His job is to induce sandstorm, drop Stealth Rock and tank as much as possible. Thanks to his speed, sandstorm is almost always guaranteed to come out as main weather against other inducers. His most important job is to stay alive until other inducers are dead. Which means firing attacks comes in more often than dropping SR. Mainly uses Fire Blast and Crunch for more damage, but occasional Ice Beam is also handy. When he is safe, I drop Stealth Rock. He is also handy in tanking satk with sandstorm buff.
Reuniclus @ Flame Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Trick
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Recover
Meant to deal with physical threats that plague my Tyranitar. He takes Fighting-type attacks and either return fire or Trick Flame Orb into them. Also double Trick to get Flame Orb back for later use unless I direly need to get rid of opponent's item. He also comes in to receive Trick/Switcheroo.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
Honestly least used pokemon in my team. Used to be bulky SD, then all out SD. Now CB but I think I will change him into CS or defensive stats with Roost. Reason behind changing him from SD build to Choiced build is because most team prepares for SD and either wall it/kills him before he can deal enough damage. Therefore either tanking on his own or hit-run tactic seems to be much better for him.
He may be good, but haven't proved himself in this team yet. Needs more testing.
Roserade @ Black Sludge
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Leaf Storm
- Sludge Bomb
Toxic spike remover/entry hazard planter. Surprisingly good at tanking neutral attacks. Usually lives long enough to drop a set of spike or more. Toxic is used instead if there is no counter against it + will poison decent amount of enemy pokemons.
I usually wait for enemy spinner to die. Once gone, Roserade spams entry hazards + fire occasional attacks to hit for super effective damage until it dies/switches out to die for better switch in for other pokemons. Usually dies first due to fragility and her role.
Donphan @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Meant to spin away entry hazards, but carries my team harder than Scizor thanks to clutch Sand Veil and high attack stats. His main role actually isn't to Rapid Spin. He comes in and hits as hard as he can as enemy switch pokemons. Thanks to Sand Veil and IV + EV investment in Def, I often end up hitting enemies multiple times while they desperately try to hit me with low accuracy moves/physical attacks.
Milotic @ Leftovers
Trait: Marvel Scale
EVs: 248 HP / 196 Def / 56 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dragon Tail
- Recover
MVP of my team. Only got Dragon Tail to attack but she dealt more damage than Scizor thanks to entry hazards. Used to have scald but I realized that Sleep Talk Recover is very clutch and Scald loses its usage thanks to Toxic Spikes and Flame Orb.
I did think about pokemon with Sandstorm neutral typing, such as Quagsire or Swampert. But as it turns out, those pokemon actually don't survive as long as Milotic does.
How I play this team: Main thing I do is bide for my time and try to take out opponent's weather inducer/spinner. Taking spinner out comes first. I bait them out and force it to trade hit/die as switch in. Once spinner is taken care of, I make my move and lay down my entry hazards. If there is no spinner but weather inducer, I simply lay entry hazards down while baiting out weather inducer. Take care of it just like spinner. Once those two types are gone, game becomes much more favorable to me and I simply use whatever pokemon I have left to take care of the enemy. This strategy works most of times thanks to how bulky my team is. I might not be able to ohko them, but I surely will survive their attacks much better than they would after taking entry hazard damage. With some priority moves in the team, I tend to take game to my side :)
That is my team and thank you for reading. I know there are lot to improve on this RMT, so please do comment on what I need to improve. Thank you :)
