Alright, well here's my team I guess. I don't know how it will be impacted once and if Latias is banned, but here are all my Pokemon and my rationale behind their stats and set-ups.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Flash Fire | Rash
252 in SpAtk, 252 in Speed, 4 in HP
- Overheat
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power Grass
- Explosion
Well, I guess there's many ways to slice this, and many things to talk about. First off, I want to discuss its strengths. In a nutshell, it is capable of dealing with most leads (in conjuction with Rotom). It takes out Azelf with Overheat, it gets rid of Jirachi with the same move and its Scarf, and beats Swampert with Hidden Power Grass. You may note that it has issues with Aerodactyl and Infernape, two very common leads, but I think those are addressed with the second Pokemon. Before I move on to it, however, I want to discuss its move choice.
Overheat gives me raw power, although I think that it cannot OHKO Meta with the reducing Berry unless Spec'd. Now, if I choose to run Specs, I'll now be able to beat out Metagross in addition Azelf, and Swampert still, but I will lose to Jirachi. I don't know if the trade-off is worth it or not. I might swap out Overheat for Fire Blast, but I'm not sure as of yet. The rest of the moves are straight-forward, but if you have any suggestions feel free to make them.
The biggest problem, I'm sure you noticed, is the lack of Stealth Rock. I've never used it. Never have. Always too paranoid about stopping the other lead from setting up more than having the focus of placing it myself, but I wonder if my fear is worth dissolving considering that Azelf and Infernape run Sashes.
The EVs have yet to be tweaked, but I just run this and it does fine. It still has the issues that I mentioned above though, in addition to its strengths. Regarding leads, I thought of just screwing it and running Breloom or Roserade and sleeping the adversary while I start my stuff up. I really don't like putting up Stealth Rock because in my eyes if I'm able to do it the opponent will be able to as well.
Rotom-X @ Leftovers
Levitate | Bold
252 in HP, 252 in Def, 4 in SpDef
- Will-O-Wisp
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Thunder Wave/Reflect
Alright, now Rotom quite simply is the most useful Pokemon I've ever used. He's amazing, and what I feel to be an indispensable part of my team. I have taken on suggestions before to use Zapdos instead, but it didn't cut it for me. Basically Rotom does for me what Heatran helps set up. My previous description may have made him seem worse than he is, but basically when Heatran is up against Metagross, Infernape, or Aerodactyl I switch to Rotom. Rotom takes the EQ or Close Combat, then burn with W-O-W or T-Bolts it to death. It setting up Reflect is also very useful, and I find that I opt for it more often than Thunder Wave as I almost always prefer to Burn. It destroys Gyarados, cripples Lucario, Salamence and even Tyranitar if I get lucky, and is just really good all-around. Not much to explain here, but I haven't tweaked the EVs yet.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Technician | Adamant
252 in Atk, note sure of Speed
- Bullet Punch
- U-Turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit
Well, this is probably the most straight-forward Pokemon on my team. It just does clean-up, has strong priority, etc. Checks Latias and Tyranitar that don't run Babiri. I forgot the EVs I was investing in Speed, and it may be a good idea to run some in HP or SpDef or something, if this could be tweaked I'd appreciate it.
Salamence @ Life Orb
Intimidate | Naive
EVs unspecified
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
- Earthquake
Just brute force Salamence. Now, this thing gets revenged easily by Choice Scarfed Latias, and I wonder if I should just run a MixMence, and if so which variation. If I should just keep the DD variant, the EVs enough to outpace Scarf Latias after one DD. Fire Blast is to prevent myself from being walled by Steels.
Latias @ Choice Scarf
Levitate | Modest
Enough Speed to outpace DDMence after 1 DD, rest in SpAtk
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- HP Fighting
Credit to Bosgoed for this idea, we all know it as a great revenge killer. And that's its function here. HP Fighting is for Tyranitar. I really wonder though if I need Latias on this team, and if I should replace in case it gets banned anyway.
Lucario @ Life Orb
Humble Heart | Adamant
252 in Atk, 252 in Speed
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Ice Punch
Should take care of Rotom, although if it packs Overheat as many do I guess I'm screwed. Counters if Latias dies to Tyranitar or something of that sort.
And there's my team so far. I am in dire need of feedback.
Also, I am interested in Nasty Plot Mismagius and Dragonite as an anti-lead with Extremespeed and when Choiced, so if anyone could give me feedback on how I might need to restructure my team to fit that if they're good ideas at all (and if they're even viable in OU), that'd be lovely. Of course, they may be suited for something completely different, so if they are, just disregard it, but I'd love to see your opinion on it.
