Tournaments RBYOMPL - Week 2

Hosted by Concept and roxie

Spreadsheet | Replays
  • Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for us to make decisions for activity calls when we can actually see what went down with scheduling.
  • If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to us or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.
  • When making a substitution, please tag myself, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.
  • If a match remains incomplete by the time of the deadline, it will be subject to an activity call.
  • Replays are mandatory. Not only are they useful for confirming wins, but they also contribute to usage stats and allow the people who couldn't watch the games live to watch them later.
  • To managers: Please send us your lineups in the same format that we used to post pairings. It makes it much easier to post future rounds more quickly.
  • All formats are Best of 3 with the exception of RBY 1v1 which is a Best of 7.
  • Please note in NC97, No two Pokémon can be asleep, if you put multiple to sleep, you lose.

nc97 predicts
2xNoodle vs Clas
I think noodle is one of the better 97 players in this tournament. He is also a rare breed of masochist NC97 main so I think he has the advantage here (totally not biased)

Hayburner vs Teh
Hay definitely surprised me last week pulling such a dominant win but I think Teh will be able to assert his superior NC97 knowledge and take this one.

TerraSpark vs Ranshiin
Highlight NC97 this week. Could likely go either way but TerraSpark is far in a way the best player in this pool and I find it most likely he will assert his dominance in this tier, especially after being upset in finals of the revival tour. I imagine he really wants this runback.

Week 2 Highlights. Dammit, I started writing this before nicole won her set.

Nintendo Cup 1997: Hayburner vs Teh
Teh built very creatively and looked quite comfortable despite his loss last week. Outside of maybe a few small endgame errors, his play looked overall solid and he took a very strong player to two very close games. I'm expecting that last week's games will sharpen his performance and he'll put together another interesting build. Hayburner, despite his perceived unfamiliarity with the tier, displayed fairly firm knowledge of NC97 last week. In particular, his team seemed very well-designed. Whether intentional or coincidental, Hayburner ended up with a very solid matchup. It looks like prodigious scouting and scrupulous building happened in the Jinwoos' Discord. At the very least, they stumbled on a solid build that really found what it was looking for. I'm not sure if Hayburner cares much for this tier, but it's cool to see what the outsiders are bringing to the table when they are forced to respect the tier, even a little. I hope he enjoys the tier (I admittedly struggle to), but I think he summarized it well last week:
☆Hayburner: its interesting in the way studying terminal cancer is interesting

RBY STABmons: Mana vs YBW
Not unlike Hayburner in NC97, Mana demonstrated unexpectedly strong knowledge and comfort with STABmons last week. I admittedly liked the teams he built a lot, and I can judge them with a lot more confidence than I can judge NC97 teams. Some of them even looked a little familiar. I'm very curious to see what else he builds for this tournament, and I look forward to hearing the thought process behind his builds at the end of this tournament. YBW is coming off a loss last week, but early bad luck into boom spam is a very tough matchup to win. I do think he'll assemble a few cool ideas to maybe help himself bounce back. I can see a lot of meta development coming out of just this one set.

RBY SU: Larry vs Maris Bonibell
Larry had a shockingly dominant performance in RBY SU last week. I'm highlighting this matchup mainly because I want to see if and how he keeps it up. No credit to be taken from Zpice, but Maris faced some incredibly poor luck last week, so it will be nice to see her actually play. Two pretty strong players will face off in a tier with not a lot of room to make mistakes. Should be close and fun to watch.

Nintendo Cup 1997: TerraSpark vs Ranshiin
I'm highlighting two NC97 sets this week, sue me. This is a runback of the NC97 Grand, and Winners', Finals games, of which Ranshiin took both. I think TerraSpark is very much incensed to take this game though. I think it will be interesting to see how both players adapt to each other's styles and how their teams change compared to their previous encounters. I somewhat suspect that this set will be won in the builder. I also think it might be a quick set, but that's just a feeling.

Keep up the good work everyone!
