Welcome to my "Really Nothing Special" RMT! I made this team in a quick amount of time and its been doing pretty decent on the ladder. It'd probably get wrecked by the high ladder of UU, but that's why I brought this team onto RMT. As the title says, its really nothing special. Its not like I'm using any super underrated Pokemon and making it fit, just a regular team.

My thought process when building the team

130.png

My first Pokemon that was made was Gyarados. It is a Sub + DD set with Moxie. I love using it against Mamoswine, Infernape (if it doesn't have Thunderpunch), Gligar, Lucario and more. Setting up Sub is my main priority unless they have a Poke that can immediately break the sub. Then DD away.

130.png
473.png

I added Mamoswine because it is a great core with Gyarados, getting rid of Gyarados' electric weakness and rock. Gyarados also deals with the fighting, fire (if it hits too hard), steel and water weaknesses. It is a scarf Mamo, so I can't get hazards using that, unless I wanted to go the Scarfed Rocker route.

130.png
473.png
392.png

When I looked and thought about this team, I wanted it to be more of an offense based team but at the same time I wanted a rocker without using Aggron or Forretress, so I picked Infernape. Infernape, not only setting rocks, is also a special nape. It also gets rid of the grass weakness Mamoswine and Gyarados had. It also catches the opponents by surprise (for some reason).

130.png
473.png
392.png
145.png

I needed a reliable flying switch-in, so I added Zapdos. Zapdos can deal and tank flying hits. I also needed a defogger so Zapdos was the perfect fit. It also is another way to deal with Forretress with heat wave.

130.png
473.png
392.png
145.png
015-mega.png

I was thinking about getting a mega and having switch initiative so I chose Mega Beedrill. Mega Beedrill hits super hard neutrally and super-effectively and can deal with fairies, psychic types and some dark types.

When I looked at the team again, I thought that I needed a status-er. I immediately thought of Sableye, and then the set you will see later came into my mind. Sableye also takes Extremespeeds and Quick Attacks and can cripple physical sweepers and fast Pokemon, and you will see later why.

Meet the team

gyarados.gif

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Substitute

As I said before, this Pokemon was the start to this team. It is a DD + Sub set with Waterfall and Bounce for STAB. It is also a stallbreaker because of its option of using Substitute, but it doesn't always work. It will set up behind the Sub and sweep the other team if the opponent cannot retaliate back. Intimidate is so that Gyarados can set up a bit easier on physical attacking foes. The Jolly nature, described by Lord Esche, is so it can out speed more Pokemon like Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Substitute

As I said before, this Pokemon was the start to this team. It is a DD + Sub set with Waterfall for STAB and Earthquake for coverage. It is also a stallbreaker because of its option of using Substitute, but it doesn't always work. It will set up behind the Sub and sweep the other team if the opponent cannot retaliate back. I use Moxie over Intimidate because it helps with sweeping. You could arguably say that Intimidate helps because it reduces the opponent's attack, but special attackers are mainly the threat to Gyarados.
mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Stealth Rock

Mamoswine is now the Stealth Rocker. It does not wield the Choice Scarf now, and has a Life Orb. It gets rid of Superpower and Knock Off for Stealth Rock and Ice Shard. Now, Mamoswine can deal great damage to Mega-Aerodactyl, one of this team's main threats. This allows Infernape to have more of an offensive presence instead of it using up a slot for Stealth Rock.

Change By - Manipulative & Lord Esche

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off

Mamoswine is a what I think of a "sweeper" or "revenge killer". It is the Choice Scarfer of the team. It carries EQ and Icicle Crash for its main STAB, and Superpower and Knock Off for coverage. Though, since it doesn't have Ice Shard, it can't kill things reliably. The reason why I wanted to put Superpower / Knock Off on instead of Ice Shard is because I think I need both Fighting and Dark type moves on this team. You can reason why I should put Ice Shard instead of (move).

infernape.gif

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Vacuum Wave
- Grass Knot

I love using special Infernape, it catches people off guard. With the change, it becomes a set up special attacking threat and can set up Nasty Plots when you think the opponent will switch out to sweep. Fire Blast does great neutral and super-effective damage. Grass Knot is for the Water types and on the ladder, it unexpectedly caught many Swamperts off guard. Vacuum Wave is the priority for the team and can hit fast dark types with decent damage like Mega Absol and Scarfed Krookodile.

Change made by - nv
Infernape @ Focus Sash
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

zapdos.gif

Zapdos @ Charti Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost

Zapdos is the hazard remover of the team. Not only can it Defog, but it can take hits fairly well and recover HP using Roost. Thunderbolt is for its main STAB and Heat Wave is for steel types / coverage. There is really nothing special about this Zapdos. The Charti Berry is so it can lure in stuff like Stone Edge Cobalion and Mega Aerodactyl.

Change By: Manipulative

beedrill-mega.gif

Beedrill-Mega @ Beedrillite
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Poison Jab
- U-turn
- Knock Off

Mega Beedrill is a wallbreaker, but only for some Pokemon. As I said earlier, it can hit hard neutrally and super-effectively. It has its speed boosting move, Protect. Poison Jab and U-Turn are for its main STABs, as well as some switch initiatives. Knock Off is to get rid of the items like Leftovers and switch-ins to Mega Beedrill. It then can U-Turn out or switch out to another Pokemon.

Beedrill-Mega @ Beedrillite
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Poison Jab
- U-turn
- Drill Run

Mega Beedrill is a wallbreaker, but only for some Pokemon. As I said earlier, it can hit hard neutrally and super-effectively. It has its speed boosting move, Protect. Poison Jab and U-Turn are for its main STABs, as well as some switch initiatives. Drill Run is just a filler move, it hasn't helped with anything and I'm not sure what to put instead of Drill Run. I've been thinking about Knock Off, Pursuit, X-Scissor and more moves, so could you suggest a move in place of Drill Run?

sableye.gif

Sableye @ Iron Ball
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Trick
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Foul Play

Sableye is another favourite part of my team, the other being Infernape. Not only can it cripple physical sweepers with Will-o-Wisp, but it can also Trick (with Prankster) the Iron Ball onto fast Pokemon for other party members to finish off. The Iron Ball + Trick + Prankster sets is kinda a gimmick but it actually does work (sometimes). Recover is for obviously recovery and Foul Play is for solid damage and it does work against physical attackers.

I'm not sure what threats there are to this team, you guys could point out some.

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off

Thanks for taking the time to read my RMT, please be harsh on me! (meaning constructive criticism).

Hi there, cool team you got there, nice offense.

My first recommendation is to change Gyarados
130.png
nature from Adamant to Jolly and its ability from Moxie to Intimidate. While the damage output and sweeping potential might be appealing to you, look at what opposing Mamoswine do to your team. Intimidate Gyara at least gives you a soft check to Mamo and with Jolly you even outspeed it. Jolly is also very relevant to outpace Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile at +1.

I don't really see the point in running Scarf Mamoswine on your team. In my honest opinion, Life Orb + Stealth Rock Mamoswine is much more valuable for your team, providing you with an insanley powerful wallbreaker as well as useful priority in the form of Ice Shard. Additionally, this change allows you to run a more offensive Infernape set.

Besides Zapdos you really have nothing to reliably switch into a Scald and opposing set up sweepers like DD Gyara and DD Salamence with a Lum Berry equiped can plow through your team. At the same time Scarf Hydreigon looks very threatening to your team which is why you should consider to replace Sableye with Yachie Berry Whimsicott. It provides your team with a reliable way to deal with set up sweepers, a Dragon and Water switch in and helps to keep up momentum which is very relevant on this kind of offensive build. The Yache Berry allows Whimsicott to take a super effective Ice Type Attack from the likes of Mamoswine and Sharpedo and KO back with Giga Drain.

With Sableye gone and Stealth Rock on Mamoswine I recommend a change from Focus Sash to Life Orb + Nasty Plot Infernape. LO + NP Infernape can pressure stall a lot which is very appreciated now that Sableye has been replaced. It also appreciates Whimsicotts ability to U-turn on a predicted Steel Type switch in which gives Infernape the opportunity to set up a Nasty Plot. With Nasty Plot Infernape being your answer to more defensively oriented teams, look into the change of Focus Blast over Grass Knot as it further improves Infernapes ability to break stall.

As you stated, the team is unbelievably weak to Mega Aero. One thing I considered was Charti Berry over Leftovers on Zapdos. While this does hurt Zapdos longevity a bit, you now have an effective lure to Mega Aerodactyl and SD Cobalion, two huge threats your team, especially with the change of Sableye to Whimsicott.

You were asking for a move to replace Drill Run with and another option to consider is Knock Off on Beedrill
015-mega.png
. Getting rid of passive recovery on the likes of Swampert and Forretress can be helpful to wear them down more quickly with the combination of a fast U-Turn. On another note, this team has absolutely nothing to switch into Alakazam and Beedrill is your only answer to reliably revenge kill it. You can try out Pursuit over Drill Run on Beedrill as it traps Alakazam which will be scared out by Beedrill.

Yes, these are a lot of changes but I really think they will improve the team, so give 'em a try (: Hope I could help!

Hi there Mega-Serperior-Z I like the idea of this team, but I am here to give you the constructive criticism you asked for! n_n
  • First off, I agree with Lord Esche's changes to Mamoswine, Infernape, and Gyarados for the reasons he provided. Two of my own notes are you will want to keep Grass Knot on Infernape for bulky Water-types which Infernape can lure in easily and you may want Bounce > Earthquake on Gyarados to have a semi-reliable STAB that hits bulky Water resists such as Chesnaught, Toxicroak, and Suicune.
  • Next up, I feel like Sableye is irreplaceable on this team as it prevents a lot of fast physical attackers from being a threat (Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Beedrill, etc.), but the set needs to be changed. I propose Leftovers > Iron Ball and Taunt > Trick. Leftovers gives Sableye passive recovery to continue taking hits while Taunt prevents Defog and status moves, making Sableye a reliable stallbreaker. Not having Knock Off support somewhere on a team is bad so I feel like Knock Off > Foul Play gives you the Knock Off support you lost by giving Mamoswine Stealth Rock and the loss of Foul Play is only slightly terrible as you are only really hitting Mega Absol and Fire-types, but they are both decent threats to this team, so it is up to you if you would rather get rid of the opponent's items or be able to cripple Fire-types and Mega Absol. Lastly, I suggest and EV spread change to 248 HP / 56 Def / 196 SpD / 8 Spe with a Calm nature as this allows Sableye to still take Choice Scarf Hydreigon's Draco Meteor, still only be 2HKOed after rocks by Life Orb Dark Pulse while also giving it a bit of physical bulk. Credits to Accelgor for the EV spread n_n
  • Next, while I like Zapdos and Mega Beedrill, they exacerbate the team's problem of being weak to Mega Aerodactyl. For this I propose Shuca Berry Empoleon > Zapdos and Mega Sceptile > Mega Beedrill. While losing Zapdos leaves you weak to Water-types, Mega Sceptile can not only hit them super effectively, it now provides a Scald switch-in. Empoleon also provides a Scald switch-in while providing Defog support. I also suggest Flash Cannon > Grass Knot if you keep Grass Knot on Infernape as this allows Empoleon to nail Florges on the switch in. With this change, you still get a fast Mega and hazard removal while gaining a semi-reliable Electric immunity and two Scald switch-ins.
  • To continue on from the above change, while I suggested Shuca Berry, I wanted to make a separate note that Chople Berry on Empoleon can provide you with a one-time Fighting check; however, Empoleon can't really do much back to most Fighting-types except potentially burn them with Scald although this still leaves you struggling against Guts users such as Heracross. So if you want to try Chople Berry, make sure to run Scald > Hydro Pump.
Other than that, the team looks really good with a nice premise and I hope you enjoy my changes! n_n

Hey there. Cool offensive team you've got going. Here are a few suggestions to help you improve it.

  • The first thing I noticed about this team is that it has no solid fire check. It seems like any of the prominent fire types in the tier, such as Entei, Infernape and Darmanitan, could really dent this team. Gyarados wouldn't like to take a burn from Entei, and Infernape isn't taking more than one hit from anything. I suggest running Specially Offensive Defog Salamence over Zapdos. This offers you a solid switch-in to fire type attacks which doesn't mind the burn from Entei as much as most other mons would. It can also be quite consistent thanks to its access to roost, allowing it to maintain longevity. Salamence also offers you an intimidate user, making it effectively more bulky from the physical side than Zapdos. Thanks to this, it's also able to run a fully offensive EV spread while still having defensive presence. Here's the set:

salamence.gif

Salamence @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 29 HP / 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Roost
- Defog

  • I also noticed that your team is extremely weak to dragons such as Hydreigon and Salamence, as well as other dark types such as Mega Sharpedo and Mega Absol. The former two could drop Life Orb boosted Draco Meteors to grab a kill almost everytime they come in, or in Salamence's case, can also set up a DD and do massive damage. The latter two are able to put tremendous pressure on this team thanks to having great power and speed, as well as priority in MAbsol's case. To fix these issues, I suggest replacing Infernape with Offensive Whimsicott. Infernape seems to be the most expendable member of the team, and Whimsicott offers you a faster special attacker with great typing and ability, as well as a pivot, which offensive teams really appreciate. It also gives you a good way to stop setup sweepers like Slurpuff, thanks to Prankster + Encore. More importantly, Whimsicott gives you a well needed Scald switch-in and a better check to bulky waters than infernape with its grass stab. Here's the set:

whimsicott.gif

Whimsicott @ Pixie Plate
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Giga Drain
- Encore
- U-turn

  • With the removal of Infernape, I think you could try a Life Orb + Stealth Rocks set on Mamoswine. Some of the most important factors in how great of a wallbreaker Mamoswine is, is it's sheer power after Life Orb, and ability to move around freely with its moves. Scarf takes away both of those and honestly doesn't put it at that great of a speed tier, as it gets outsped by the fast megas we have in this tier. Lacking a mandatory Ice Shard also really hinders Mamoswine's effectivity, since you miss out on hitting a plethora of threats with strong priority. Here's the set that I recommend using:

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 29 HP
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock

  • You should run Knock Off over Foul Play on Sableye as it's more useful, especially since it makes the decision of running Icicle Crash on Mamo easier. Its current set and item is pretty suboptimal, so I recommend Leftovers over Iron Ball and Taunt over Trick. This allows Sableye to perform as well as possible as a stallbreaker and at stopping setup.

  • The team still looks a little bit weak to Mega Aerodactyl. A small adjustment you could make to help out with this is running Charti Berry over Leftovers on Gyarados. This allows Gyarados to be able to tank a Stone Edge from it even after taking rocks damage and without the intimidate drop. Seeing as MAero is one of the main stops to a Gyarados sweep, this could be really helpful. I'll leave some calcs below. Without leftovers, using substitute becomes redundant. You would also want to take full advantage of Gyarados' stab moves anyways, so I suggest running Bounce over Substitute. Lastly, you Gyarados really needs that Jolly nature so that it can outspeed base 80s, as well as the base 145 megas after a Dragon Dance.

252 Atk Mega Aerodactyl Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charti Berry Gyarados: 204-240 (61.6 - 72.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-1 252 Atk Mega Aerodactyl Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charti Berry Gyarados: 135-160 (40.7 - 48.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Other Options:
  • Seeing as Whimsicott will be the primary answer to bulky waters, you could consider running a Life Orb to get a pretty big boost on Giga Drain, as well as bigger boost than from a Pixie Plate provides for Moonblast. Alternatively, you could even just try running a Meadow Plate.
  • Especially if you go with the above, you could also consider running Stun Spore over U-Turn to help cripple fast threats.

I hope I helped, and good luck with the team!
