[SET]
RegenVest (Iron Hands) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Close Combat
- Earthquake / Thunder Punch
- Ice Punch
- Volt Switch
[SET COMMENTS]
Iron Hands's high natural bulk, solid coverage moves, and access to Volt Switch allow it to be a great RegenVest user. Earthquake hits Pecharunt and Gholdengo, whereas Thunder Punch does more damage than Earthquake on neutral Pokemon and hits Corviknight, Manaphy, and Skarmory. Ice Punch nails Great Tusk, Zapdos, and the Landorus formes. The given EV spread enables Iron Hands to check physical attackers like Chien-Pao, and non-Choice Band Zamazenta as well as special attackers like Gholdengo, Zapdos, and Iron Moth.
Iron Hands is best suited for balance or offensive team structures that appreciate its defensive prowess in addition to its ability to scare many defensive Pokemon. Iron Hands struggles with Psychic- and Fairy-types like Scream Tail, Latios, and Deoxys-S; therefore, it appreciates allies like Iron Treads, Heatran, and Scream Tail. Ground-types like Great Tusk, Swampert, and the Landorus formes all threaten Iron Hands with their STAB moves and are immune to Volt Switch, so it finds partners such as Corviknight, Moltres, and Earth Eater Gholdengo valuable. Strong physical attackers like Cinderace, Choice Band Zamazenta, and the Ogerpon formes frighten Iron Hands; thus, physical walls like Pecharunt and the aforementioned Corviknight can help Iron Hands against these threats. Iron Hands lacks entry hazard removal, so the aforementioned Iron Treads and Corviknight are important partners.

Other Options
=============
Drain Punch can be used over Close Combat on the RegenVest set for extra healing and no drawbacks, but the general power of Close Combat is much more appreciated. An offensive set with Surge Surfer and Swords Dance can be utilized with a partner that can set up Electric Terrain like Hadron Engine Gholdengo and Latios, but this is a niche set that struggles to find success due to Electric Terrain only lasting a short amount of time and Iron Hands still being outsped by threats like Choice Scarf Latios, Deoxys-S, and Choice Scarf Scream Tail. Iron Hands can utilize a physically defensive Swords Dance set with Regenerator to check physical attackers like Chien-Pao and Roaring Moon while being quite threatening.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Psychic-types**: Deoxys-S, Latios, and Azelf all threaten Iron Hands with their STAB moves.
**Ground-types**: Ground-types like Great Tusk and the Landorus formes wall Iron Hands and intimidate it with Earthquake if Iron Hands lacks Earth Eater.
**Fairy-types**: Scream Tail and Primarina frighten Iron Hands with their STAB moves with Scream Tail in particular being able to bypass Substitute on Swords Dance Iron Hands thanks to Boomburst.
