Doubles Regidrago

[SET]
Dragon Energy (Regidrago) @ Draco Plate
Ability: Dragon's Maw
Tera Type: Dragon / Steel
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest / Timid nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dragon Energy
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Protect

[SET COMMENTS]
  • With Draco Plate and Dragon's Maw, Regidrago's Dragon Energy hits most of the metagame for incredibly high neutral spread damage, offering great sweeping opportunities and removing important threats for its teammates.
  • Draco Meteor gives Regidrago an option when not at full HP, and being a single-target move, it offers an even higher damage output.
  • Earth Power, while often not getting 2HKOs, hits the Pokemon that resist Dragon Energy like Diancie and Gholdengo.
  • Tera Dragon helps Dragon Energy pick up KOs, notably getting the OHKO on bulky Ogerpon-W, while Tera Steel gives Regidrago resistances to a lot of common moves like Tornadus's Bleakwind Storm and Gholdengo's Make It Rain and also improves the matchup against Chien-Pao + Dragonite by letting it resist Extreme Speed and Ice Spinner.
  • Due to its middling Speed, Regidrago heavily relies on Tornadus's Tailwind support to hit first while being healthy and get maximum value from Dragon Energy. Tornadus can also use Icy Wind for additional speed control.
  • Regidrago greatly appreciates Pokemon that can strongly hit opposing targets that resist Dragon Energy, like Gholdengo and Diancie, in return for its ability to blow through Pokemon like Ogerpon-W and Incineroar. Gholdengo can deal with Fairy-types like Alolan Ninetales and with Pokemon like Raging Bolt that often Terastallize into the Fairy typing to not get hit by Dragon-type moves. Ground-types like Landorus on Tailwind teams and Ursaluna-B on Trick Room teams are also great to remove Steel-types and Diancie.
  • Ogerpon-H is one of the main beneficiaries of Regidrago's ability to remove Fire-types, in return removing Steel-types, improving the snow matchup, and offering Follow Me support to help Regidrago dodge Sucker Punch and keep itself healthy. Ogerpon-W can also be an option that offers more reliable Follow Me support on defensive teams.
  • Regidrago is often paired with Farigiraf or Indeedee-F, which disincentivizes priority moves like Fake Out and Sucker Punch, and they can use Trick Room against Tailwind users or to reverse Trick Room from opposing users.

  • Put Modest nature as the first slash since it's better and Timid doesn't outspeed much.
  • You don't need to say "while not boosted in any way", or the exact percentage a move deals; what you should mention instead is that Earth Power hits the Pokemon which resist Dragon Energy.
  • Don't say "increases the possibility of a sweep", instead say Tera Dragon helps Dragon Energy pick up KOs, notably getting the OHKO on standard Ogerpon-Wellspring.
  • I'm not sure exactly how to phrase the point about Tera Steel but I think you're too focused on those specific types/Pokemon, Steel is just solid in general for a lot of stuff, like resisting Gholdengo's Make It Rain is a big one, being able to sit safely on Tornadus' Bleakwind Storm is nice as well, among other things. Steel is just generally the best defensive option for Regidrago and has a lot of resists rather than being for one or two Pokemon in particular (also Chien-Pao is kind of a weird one since it can still Sucker Punch either way, or can Sacred Sword afterwards).
  • I would say Regidrago's 80 base Speed is middling rather than "low", also make this point solely about how Tailwind in the form of Tornadus is practically a requirement for using Regidrago as it also relies on going first to stay healthy for Dragon Energy, Trick Room/Follow Me are nowhere near on the same level. Trick Room you already have covered in a point later, and the point about redirection can be added when discussing the relevant Pokemon.
  • I think the partners bullet point should be structured differently than right now which has all the options together at the start then all the reasoning for everything after. I would begin the first sentence by just saying Regidrago appreciates offensive partners that can deal with the Pokemon Dragon Energy doesn't hit like Gholdengo and Diancie, in return for its ability to blow through Pokemon like Ogerpon-Wellspring and Incineroar. Then you can go onto each example and say Gholdengo deals with Fairy-types and Tera Fairy; Ogerpon-Hearthflame hits all the things and mention Follow Me here, also Ogerpon-Wellspring (which still gets used a lot with it as well) can do a similar thing but isn't as great offensively; then Landorus or Ursaluna-Bloodmoon (another can hit Steel-types/Diancie, with Ursaluna being better for more Trick Room-oriented teams. This point might end up a bit long and need cut down, but structure-wise at least I think that is how you should do it. Chi-Yu can be a nice partner but is pretty rare and not that great in general, there's already enough other partners mentioned already.
  • A big point to mention for Farigiraf/Indeedee-F (you should specify which), is also reversing Trick Room against Trick Room teams.
I'm very nitpicky but good job overall, tag me once implemented so I can check over before giving QC 1/2.

Edit: looks good to me

Implemented, I allowed myself to keep the mention of PaoNite because I often find Regidrago teams weak to them. I hope the partner bullepoints isn't too long

  • I think somewhere at the beginning you should mention how Regidrago's ability strongly dictates the niche it serves, as it adds important context for how it functions with primarily stab moves- you can probably just add this to the first bullet point along with dragon fang
  • Probably rephrase beginning of partners section to be a bit clearer, something like "Regidrago greatly appreciates Pokemon that can strongly hit opposing targets that resist Dragon Energy, like gholdengo or Diancie"
  • To cut down on the clutter in the first partner bulletpoint, I think you could move the Ogerpons to the second partner bullet point to emphasize their supporting capability for Regidrago with Follow Me. These allows the first bullet point to just focus on common offensive partners for Regidrago and allows the second bullet point to focus on the more supportive Pokemon that help enable Regidrago defensively. This distinction really helps provide a blueprint for how Regidrago teams are constructed- something I think you already did a good job covering but could just be made a bit clearer.
  • I agree with Yoda on the Pao reference but I think keeping the reference to specifically Dragonite is fine for the Tera steel explanation, since that's the main thing you're talking about here.
  • You still need to add Yoda's note of changing Indeedee to Indeedee-F

I implemented the changes, this was my first analysis and I don't know how I didn't notice I was writing the Pokemon formes wrong :C.
Anyway, I don't think the set should have a name since it's the only viable set in DOU but maybe I'm wrong
I reworded the tera fairy part now it should be more clear, about the Diancie and Gholdengo part, they are the one resisting the Dragon moves so I think they are in the right place
Thank you for your time :)

I was told every set that's going to be uploaded onto the dex needs a name; without one, it'd look weird when it shows up on the dex and the damage calculator.

Gholdengo can deal with Fairy-types like Alolan Ninetales and with Pokemon (I suggest adding in an example of a Tera Fairy user, put it after this word) that often Terastallize into the Fairy typing to not get hit by Dragon-type moves.

Aside from this suggestion, you're all set. GP Check 1/1

waffle2O2O a set name is required; otherwise, it will look strange when it is uploaded with no name and it will look weird in the calculator. I don't think you have to put too much thought into it; anything vaguely accurate will do (e.g. "Offensive"). QC / section mods can probably help you out here.

But you do need to have a name and this should not be uploaded until one is added. Thanks

I'm going to handle it. Thanks, though.
