Regirock

I'm kind of bad at posting but I think I found something pretty interesting and wanted to share. Sorry if the format is bad.

When I first started playing pokemon I made a TSS team and my favorite member in it was Regice. I was planning my first DP team, another TSS team, when I stumbled across something I hadn't seen on the boards. Regirock in a sandstorm has absolutely godly defenses.

Edited to include link: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/377.shtml
Regirock's Base stats are: 80, 100, 200, 50, 100, 50.

Edited to add moves:
Physical movepool:
stone edge
earthquake
arm hammer
focus punch
explosion

Support Moves
Stealth rocks
toxic
rest
sleep talk
psych up
thunder wave

So first thing to do is obviously max hp giving you 359 HP
Now without putting any other evs and neutral nature into him, his defenses are 436 def, 354 SpD. Now, its pretty obvious that Regirock would benefit most (at lesast number-wise) form a +Def nature so his defense jumps up to 479. Sp Def ev's are very important for regirock because each 4 gives a +1.5 instead of a +1. Regirock's attack also isn't bad (236 without evs) and gets a stabbed stone edge.
With that said I think the following would work pretty well

Regirock@leftovers
(252 HP, 128 Att, 128 Def)
(+Def, -Sp Att)
earthquake
stone edge
sleep talk
rest
Gives him 359 HP, 479 Def, 402 Sp Def. 268 Attack helps him do some damage.
Earthquake+stone edge for coversage. Rest-talking keeps it alive. Sleep talk also helps with the low pp of stone edge for this defensive oritened poke.

I'm sure that there are better ev spreads for regirock out there but I don't have time to do the calculations. If someone could take a look into how it fares against metagame threats, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Actually, max HP is 364. However, Regirock has many of the same problems as Tyranitar/Hippowdon and therefore would compound said team's weaknesses, and STABed Water/Ground would still hurt significantly. I would just abandon the idea of Attack EVs altogether since this is supposed to be a staller, and maybe splash Toxic on it so it actually does something while stalling.

hmm thanks for hte advice Great Sage. I thought about it some more and Regirock can fill the role of special wall who isn't hurt by sand. 252 HP, 252 Sp def, 4 Def (+sp def, -Sp Att) gives you (364, 437, 491) which has a bit more sp def (44 ev's worth) than 0 ev, +nature Regice's sp def. Though it's not blissesy, I think this will serve decently well especially since it gets lefties recovery.

Toxic does seem like a good idea, but I'm not sure it mixes well with sleep talk.

Regice@leftoves
(252 HP, 252 Sp def, 4 Def)
(+Sp def, -Sp att)
Toxic
Stone Edge/earthquake
Rest
Sleep Talk
Nothing is immune to stone edge. Problems with steels might warrent use of earthquake though that has problems with levitating poisons (gengar/weezing). Earthquake version is also competely shut down by gyarados if it can come in and not get poisoned. I think I'd go with stone edge for the stab.

Also, curse might be fun
Regice@leftoves
(252 HP, ???)
(???)
Stone Edge
Rest
Earthquake/ Sleep Talk/hammer arm/curse
Earthquake/ Sleep Talk/hammer arm/curse
I guess it would play sort of like the old curselax with either one attack+sleep talk or two attacks but with better type coverage. Regirock only trails snorlax by 10 base points in attack, so the attack strength isn't that different.

An idea I was thinking about was Choice Banded Regirock, Working I assume relatively similar to CBTar and CBRhyperior, in that you can really focus on your Defenses and not even have to consider your attack stat.

Regirock@ Choice Band
Impish
252 HP/ 252 Spdef/ 4 def (EVs may be a little weird, you might want some def)
Stone Edge
Earthquake
Hammer Arm
Explosion

Pretty straight forward. It may not be the very best option but it's there. Regirock doesn't really need to change his attack very often, which is why choice band can work. I suppose rockslide might be preferably over SE for PP reasons, but whatever. Regirock is pretty cool, he just has way to many weaknesses

I combined Regirock with Hippowdon on one of my teams.

Regirock @ Leftovers
Clear Body
Impish
~Stone Edge
~Curse
~Rest
~Thunderwave/Toxic/EQ
EVs:252 HP/252 Sp Def/6 Def

A ridiculous wall. Toxic is handy, t-wave screws sweepers and helps it last through rest, and EQ helps for attacking. Fairly self explanatory really.

yes, make sure to keep in mind that regirock is a huge pain in the behind when he's in sandstorm to boost the weaker defensive stat on a tankish lengendary... as soon as i heard about the sandstorm boost, i said Woah! Tyranitar, Cradily, Regirock!

Now, I generally don't use Legendaries. That said, Regirock has much higher Defense and Sp. Defense than HP and is the only one of the original three Regis that learns Drain Punch.

Regirock @ Leftovers/Leppa Berry
Curse
Stone Edge
Drain Punch
Sandstorm/Safeguard/Stealth Rock

Or eventually,

Regirock @ Custap Berry
Curse
Stone Edge
Drain Punch
Explosion
