Folks frequently come into #help for format modification advice, and while not all of them are to be catered to, something that I have noticed and has perplexed me is that the default configuration for the /buildformat selection is a format incompatible with the tool, Random Battles. I do think this is intentional (though other randomized formats seem to allow buildformat modification), but as such it seems not ideal that a user accessing that UI would be unable to actually advance to modify a format if they don't realize that the Continue button not working is because the default option does not allow for modification.

Random Battles isn't inherently incompatible with the format builder. There are plenty of rules/additions that can be added to it.

It simply doesn't allow for custom bans / custom unbans.

[Gen 9] Random Battles, the default selection in the /buildformat window, is incompatable with the format builder and will not let you advance to the modification screen if selected. Whether or not randomized formats are conceptually compatible with /buildformat is not my intent here, only to suggest that any format that cannot entertain /buildformat should not be listed as an option.

For some reason that's unrelated to this thread, using buildformat then clicking the Continue button before properly selecting a format will not advance.

You can use the format builder with Gen 9 Random Battle, you just have to switch the selected format off of it, then back onto it again.

Then this thread may need to be moved and repurposed as a bug report! I learn something new every day. Is it because the format by default is [Gen 9] Random Battles whereas the format when selected onto is Random Battles?
