Since the consensus on the help room on PS seems to be that the apps are wildly outdated and advised using against, why not stop suggesting users to install them? It seems to me Chrome and Firefox apps are already commented out on the front page, so Mac and Windows apps should follow. They seem to be from February 2020, that's over 9000 commits ago.

At very least they should be marked as unsupported legacy options.
 
I spoke with Zarel about this. Theres quite a bit of work that would need to go into the downloadable client to get it up to date. However, there are several other things that are much higher priority right now. As a result, we have removed the download link for the client at this time and recommend that everyone use the website.
