What is Restricted Doubles Ubers?

Restricted Doubles Ubers, also known as RDU or GS Cup, is a 6v6 Doubles format that uses Doubles OU as a base. In addition to DOU's ruleset, players are permitted to use up to two Pokemon from Doubles Ubers on their teams, with the exception of Arceus. Since players are prevented from simply stacking all of the game's best Pokemon, teambuilding has to get creative; what two restricted Pokemon will you use, and how will you use the rest of your team to support them?

How can I play Restricted Doubles Ubers?

RDU does not currently have a ladder. However, you can play challenge games in the format using the following command:
Code:
/challenge gen9doublesubers@@@*DUber,-Arceus,-Dark Void,Limit Two Restricted,Gravity Sleep Clause
You can also join roomtours in the Doubles OU room that will automatically implement the ruleset. In the future, we will hopefully have it established as a challengeable format on Pokemon Showdown, eliminating the need for the command.

What are the rules?

RDU uses the following ruleset:
Banned Pokemon:
- :arceus: Arceus

Banned moves:
- Dark Void

Play Restrictions:
  • Endless Battle Clause: Players cannot use any moveset on any Pokémon capable of intentionally causing an endless battle. Thus:
    • A Pokémon may not carry Recycle and hold a Leppa Berry in conjunction with Heal Pulse and Milk Drink, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Recover, Roost, Slack Off, Soft-Boiled, or Wish.
    • A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Pain Split.
    • A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Fling
  • Evasion Clause: Players cannot use the moves Double Team or Minimize.
  • OHKO Clause: Players cannot use the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold.
  • Species Clause: Players cannot have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number on the same team.
  • Gravity Sleep Clause: Sleep moves with below one hundred percent accuracy may not be used in conjunction with Gravity.

Just a quick little metagame rant post thing

Now that there's a proper metagame thread to post in I wanted to share my thoughts on the RDU metagame coming out of the kickoff tournament. As things stand balance teams seem to reign supreme with Calyrex-Fighting balance vastly outclassing all other comps in teams of usage and Miraidon rain in a distant second. Ice rider found a lot of diversity in the tournament and paired up with many different restricted mons and many off the restricteds I have listed in tier 3 such as zacian and terapagos were able to round out the metagame as the captains of more offensive teams.

As things stand I think the format has a great mix of utility and power that placed balance teams at the forefront of the metagame with key positional mons in rillaboom incineroar and raging bolt doing excellent work in giving players tools to play around with. I am mildly concerned that said balance structures might over-centralize the metagame, but with magearna freed I'm sure thinks will get plenty shaken up. Going into the future I really hope groudon and eternatus get explored a bit more, they're honestly excellent pokemon that really didn't get picked up very much in the tournament and have much room to grow into the metagame. The two bikes are as scary as ever and remain terrifying to prep for in the builder in my opinion, (especially Koraidon) I'm going to be keeping my eye on those two as they definitely have not been abused to their fullest potential yet, mostly operating as strong filler restricted slots in the tournament as I saw things.

If anyone else would like to post metagame thoughts you can find the updated tier list maker link here. I only included unrestricted pokemon that saw multiple uses in the tournament, I will update the template with additional mons in the future if they get used enough or if something falls out of favor (looking at you, spectrier) I will remove it. I encourage others to post their thoughts so that we can get a baseline for our council here to eventually put out a proper VR in the long-term!

:zamazenta-crowned: :miraidon: :pelipper: :incineroar: :ting lu: :rillaboom:

just a team in case someone wants to try the format but doesnt like building

ill explaing the restricted choices considering theyre the main body of the team:

:zamazenta-crowned:
big dog is already a proven great mon in vgc now that it has acess to body press and with :ting lu: snarl support its nearly unkillable after one iron defence. Has great synergy with :rillaboom: because of the grassy terrain recovery and apreciates :pelipper: shutting down opposing weather from koraidon, making it easier for setting up the iron defences

:miraidon:
requires a bit of positioning skills because of ting lu and rilla being in your team but if played correctly it can tear holes in the opposing team. :incineroar: pairs really well with it because it scares the other terrain users while providing fake out support that doesnt have a terrain attached. Funnily enough the biggest ally it has in the team is Pelipper because of its winning matchup into :Koraidon: and :Groudon:, both of which give the Electric Snake a hard time

Seconding paint's suggestion to unrestrict Darkrai. Dark types are pretty valuable in Calyrex world and Darkrai is one of the better ones with a pretty unique toolkit, could be very nice to have around since the problematic part is banned anyways
