Welcome, one and all, to the Retro Cup of Pokemon 2024. This thread will communicate any announcements, updates, and other decisions we make as a host team leading up to and throughout the tournament. Also included is some important information and helpful links below.

Your host team for this tour consists of GraveBee, Akeras, and bern - feel free to reach out to us if there are questions or concerns regarding the tournament.

Weekly Format
This tournament consists of eight matches each week, one for every past generation of OverUsed. As such, the following matches will take place every week between teams: RBY OU, GSC OU, ADV OU, DPP OU, BW OU, ORAS OU, SM OU, SS OU. Each team must consist of at least eight primary players and four substitutes.

The Qualifying Stage
The following teams are pre-qualified for the main stage, and will not need to play matches until September 9th: Asia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, France, Germany, India, Italy, Oceania, Spain, United Kingdom, US Northeast

The following teams are qualifying teams, which will play in a qualifying stage from August 12th to September 8th to determine entry into the main stage: Afrabs, Alps, Bangladesh, Chile + Argentina, Greece, Guatemala, Latin America, Mexico, US Central, US West, USSR, Venezuela

Teams that are not pre-qualified for the main stage must participate in a qualifying stage. This will take the form of a Round Robin with playoffs:
Every team will play in a preliminary Round Robin, and the team that wins said Round Robin will automatically qualify for the Main Stage. From the teams ranked 2nd-7th, three additional teams will qualify for the main stage in a seeded, single-elimination playoffs match. This will pit 2nd place against 7th, 3rd against 6th, and 4th against 5th. Teams which win their playoffs match will proceed to the main stage, while those who either lose in playoffs or do not make the top 7 in the qualifying event will be unable to continue.

The Main Stage
For the first round, players will be randomly assigned into four groups of four players for each generation (totalling 32 groups). The top 8 teams with the most wins collected proceeding to the playoffs.

Seeding for playoffs will be determined as follows: In each group, six points will be awarded for first place, four for second place, and two for third place in a group. If there is a tie for any position, the total number of points between those two positions will be split equally among the tied parties. For example, if two people are tied for first place, they will split ten (six for first + four for second) points between them for a total of five points each.

Playoff Tiebreaks
If there is a tie for the last spot of the qualifier or main stage, or a tie in any playoff round, a tiebreaker round will be played exclusively by them.
The tiebreak round will consist in a bo3, with the captains communicating to the hosts ONE confirmed tier each to play, then ranking the other seven by preference; the most preferred tier between the two unpicked ones will be selected as the third. In case of a tie, the pick will be randomized between the tied tiers.

For those patient enough to have read all of this, Wooper says thanks and wishes you good luck :woo:

Re: Continental Team Eligibility in RCoP

Players are only eligible to play for the team which is most accurate to their actual location. Larger, regional and continental teams such as team Europe are meant to serve as a means of playing for players who would normally not be covered by a team for their own country. These teams are not intended to serve as a means of allowing players to fight on multiple different teams.

In the instance that a player lives in a region where both a national and continental team exist, they are only eligible for the national team. A player may only be eligible for the continental team if there is no national team they would be eligible for.

Future Retro Cup of Pokémon threads will be using this new art created by Samirsin.

However, the previous artist, Lutra, will still be credited by the main concept, so future threads will commence like this:

This post is also done for consistency between hosts at the time of writing threads as well, so we can continue with a pattern going forward.

In order to give an adequate amount of time for qualifying teams to prepare, the host team has decided to push back qualifiers by 1 week. We hope that this will allow for more defined rosters of players and an overall better tournament experience. Because qualifiers has been delayed, we will also be granting additional time for player signups, as there's no reason to arbitrarily restrict that.

Qualifiers will now begin on Monday, August 19th.
The deadline for player signups on qualifying teams is now Sunday, August 18th.

We do not think, as of now, that the main event will have to be delayed as a result of this. If other delays need to be made, we will let you know.
Feel free to reach out if there are any questions or concerns.

Re: eLcol8GT vs Zoyotte

Situation: eLcol8GT recieved very sparse answers from Zoyotte about an actual scheduled time. While this was going on oh the guilt was demanding a substitute from Suzuya but never received one. It's clear to the hosting team that eLcol8GT gave a clear time to play or for the managers to provide a substitute, however they gave neither, and eLcol8GT is unavailable to play during Sunday according to oh the guilt.

Result: eLcol8GT recieves an activity win against Zoyotte.

Re: Endill vs Zoyotte

Situation: Endill, similarly to eLcol8GT, recieved little answers from Zoyotte, who decided to ask to be subbed out. However, the managers of Team Africa failed to provide a sub at the proposed time, or at all. As a result from this, their ADV slot loses to another activity call.

Result: Endill recieves an activity win against Zoyotte.

Re: Green on fire vs Minatevis

Situation: Originally Green on fire vs Highv0ltag3, this match was scheduled for Saturday last week, however Highv0ltag3 missed the time, but insisted on rescheduling. In the end, they recieved no answer from Green on fire. After Highv0ltag3 was subbed out due to their inactivity, neither Minatevis nor Green on fire attempted to schedule for their game. The hosting team has reviewed it over, and has concluded that as it stands, the act call from Lazuli is invalid.

Result: Green on fire vs Minatevis will result in a deadgame.

Re: Every single game in Round 1 that did not happen.

After looking over the 13 remaining games that did not occur in the first round of the tournament, this is the results we came down to:

Unowndragon vs SANKE CARP: Activity win for Unowndragon
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/retro-cup-of-pokémon-2024-round-1.3751307/post-10291666 this is the activity call post that confirms, and in the manager chat Slowpoke Fan was speaking with Heika about the potential sub that ended up not happening because Heika had to leave.

Fakes vs Rhmsitb: Activity win for Rhmsitb
Very little to go from this one and no activity post was made but the smogon logs show that Rhmsitb was waiting for Fakes on Smogtours yet never appeared to show up.

Fakes vs Xrn: Deadgame
There is little attempt at scheduling from either party.

baddummy vs BIHI and baddummy vs Kaif: Deadgame
For both cases there was little to no attempts at scheduling as far as the host team is aware, there could've been Discord DMs but since there was no act call we do not know for certain.

Elfuseon vs Hyogafodex: Activity win for Elfuseon
This post also leads to the next activity win.

Rowlet69420 vs Hyogafodex: Activity win for Rowlet69420
Same reason as Elfuseon.

Raceding vs King Billu: Activity win for Raceding
Once again, just missed time.

Black-Flame vs King Billu: Deadgame
Both players seem to not have missed the time but also neither posted, so unless someone posts it will be a deadgame for now.

Aliss vs ayman x: Deadgame
The hosting team wasn't able to find any attempts at scheduling from either party, and so it will result in a deadgame.

Alhen vs Rewer: Activity win for Alhen
No sub was provided and so this is pretty clear for the hosting team.

Leavers vs Raiyan: Activity win for Leavers
Also a very clear activity win.

Once the activity wins are updated into the sheet we will have the final standings. The tiebreakers will be posted by Akeras.
