Revelation Theory

Introduction

Well, it's been a while since I created a UU RMT. Like, Platinum-era. A friend of mine, PaidAssassinX (SlottedPig on here), offered to help me create a new UU team. Our first team, a team centered around an Agility Lanturn sweep, went down in flames quickly. When Lanturn got off an Agility, it did massive damage to anything that wasn't Chansey or Registeel. But when it couldn't, we had problems. Next, we tried a Hitmonlee-centered team. Eventually, I left it to him, and from what he told me, he enjoyed some success with it. After those two teams, I decided to spread out on my own. This is my second solo UU venture, with the first one netting me a decent amount of wins (getting me to 1300 CRE after a single day of testing). This will, without a doubt, be the my last team for Gen IV. I'm glad that it's one of my favorites.

Without further delay, I present Team Revelation Theory.

Mismagius @ Leftovers **Undone
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP | 252 SpA | 252 Spe
Ghost.png
- Shadow Ball
Electric.png
- Thunderbolt
Dark.png
- Taunt
Fire.png
- Will-o-Wisp

General Description

This Mismagius set aims to defeat the most common leads in UU, Uxie, Mesprit, Omastar, and Cloyster. The combination of Taunt and Will-O-Wisp allows Mismagius to function as a stallbreaker later in the match. Will-O-Wisp is also a valuable asset against offensive teams; you can often cripple their physical sweeper or defensive pivot, thus opening them up for a sweep. Taunt, combined with Mismagius' base 105 Speed, will often prevent Stealth Rock from being set up by the opposing lead.

Ambipom.gif
- If it's carrying Payback or Pursuit, I've already lost. Ambipom out-speeds and OHKOs with either attack no matter what. If it's not carrying either one (unlikely), then I can use Will-o-Wisp to cripple it for the rest of the match. Gotta watch out for them U-turning to something with Flash Fire, like Houndoom.

i_uxie.gif
- Not much it can really do. TrickScarf can either Trick me a Choice Scarf (giving me a potent Revenge Killer), or use Thunder Wave first go. If it's not holding Choice Scarf (Leftovers or Light Clay), then Taunt is the best thing to do. I'll usually Thunderbolt instead of Shadow Ball next, in case they switch to a Normal-type.

i_mesprit.gif
- TrickScarf doesn't really do shit to me. Taunt, Will-o-Wisp and/or Thunderbolt. Same as Uxie, really.

i_omastar.gif
- Now this is where Mismagius really starts to shine. Completely shuts down Omastar with Taunt and Thunderbolt. It isn't getting a single layer of anything up, and hopefully next time it comes in, I'll already have Stealth Rock up to break the Focus Sash. Obvious victory here.

i_cloyster.gif
- A single Thunderbolt and it's done. If I'm really feeling careful (as in, I think they're investing a shit-load of EVs into Special Defense), I'll go for Taunt first, to stop any and all set-up. Another win.

i_mpiritomb.gif
- Will-o-Wisp. Shadow Sneak 2HKOs should Will-o-Wisp miss, but if it does hit, Spiritomb becomes perfect set-up material.

i_electrode.gif
- Prepare my team for a Rain Dance assault. Thunder will never 2HKO, while Shadow Ball always will. Just gotta watch out for that 30% chance of being Paralyzed.

i_hippopotas_male.gif
- Taunt, Will-o-Wisp, carrying on with my business.

i_qwilfish.gif
- Taunt it and use Will-o-Wisp. It's always better when your opponent has dead weight on their team.

i_alakazam.gif
- It can't OHKO me with Psychic (61.1% - 72.1%), and I can't OHKO it with Shadow Ball due to Focus Sash. I'll usually send out Registeel after it's 2HKOed Mismagius, to set up Stealth Rock and/or Shadow Claw it.
Goddammit franky, I finished my Mismagius lead team first. >:(

Registeel.gif
|
leftovers.png

Registeel @ Leftovers **Loathe
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Careful
EVs: 252 HP | 100 Atk | 156 SpD
Rock.png
- Stealth Rock
Electric.png
- Thunder Wave
Ice.png
- Ice Punch
Ghost.png
- Shadow Claw

General Description

The most out of place member on this team. The entire team is offensive, and out of nowhere, you see this strange Registeel just pop up. Registeel provides very key resistances to Flying, Grass, Bug, and Ghost-types. Flying-type was really a large part of it though. If you haven't noticed, Swellow gives my team complete hell. Everything is out-sped (bar Feraligatr at +2), and beaten down by Facade + Brave Bird (once again, bar Feraligatr, and it has to be in top condition to pull it off), so something that could beat Swellow would be vital. I also noticed that I had no Stealth Rock support, something that could wear out Swellow, and provide a deterrent to Moltres, Scyther, ect. The move-set would probably be something you'll notice quickly. I wanted to be able to hit Mismagius and co. with something other than Iron Head (since Rotom is just going to laugh that off), and I also needed to hit Torterra because, in case you haven't noticed, Torterra can really rip through my team. It doesn't have much to switch into, but once it DOES get a Rock Polish, we're in trouble.

Venusaur.gif
|
life-orb.png

Venusaur @ Life Orb **Take Away
Ability: Overgrow
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 Def | 252 SpA | 252 Spe
Grass.png
- Leaf Storm
Poison.png
- Sludge Bomb
Grass.png
- Sleep Powder
Grass.png
- Synthesis

General Description

Life Orb Venusaur. Not exactly a new concept to anyone that's played UU. Venusaur is practically the perfect partner for Feraligatr, since it lures in three common Pokemon (Registeel, Weezing, and bulky Arcanine) that Feraligatr sets up on rather easily. I often find myself double-switching by sending in Feraligatr first, then Venusaur when they send out their check to it (usually a bulky Water-type). Venusaur really makes me regret the fact that I couldn't find a way to include Spikes support on this team, since I think it would go perfectly.

i_hitmonlee.gif
|
black-belt.png

Hitmonlee @ Black Belt **Selfish and Cold
Ability: Limber
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4 HP | 252 Atk | 252 Spe
Normal.png
- Substitute
Fighting.png
- Close Combat
Fire.png
- Blaze Kick
Dark.png
- Sucker Punch

General Description

This guy right here has won me so many games, it's unreal. All it takes is a single turn of set-up to completely turn the game around. You'll notice that I'm using Blaze Kick over Stone Edge. Well, with Venusaur being the #2 most used Pokemon, and Leafeon steadily climbing up higher, Blaze Kick is much needed insurance against those Pokemon. It does make Moltres a larger threat to my team, since it mostly relies on Stealth Rock and decent prediction to take it down. I'm considering changing Hitmonlee to a Revenger with Choice Scarf, since my team doesn't really have one, or even Priority attacks (Sucker Punch is the only one)

i_houndoom.gif
|
passho-berry.png

Houndoom @ Passho Berry **World to Burn
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpA | 4 SpD | 252 Spe
Dark.png
- Nasty Plot
Fire.png
- Fire Blast
Dark.png
- Dark Pulse
Normal.png
- Hidden Power [Grass]

General Description

This has got to be one of the best members of my team right here, other than Feraligatr itself. Houndoom draws in Milotic like crazy. It feels so good to Nasty Plot as they come in and 2HKO them with +2 Hidden Power [Grass] while their Surf fails to OHKO. The largest threat to that tactic would be Scarf Milotic, which then becomes set-up fodder for Feraligatr (also means that Milotic has no Recovery, meaning an even easier KO on it). Houndoom is infinitely useful for aiding Feraligatr's sweep, and for drawing out Chansey, which Feraligatr sets up on without harm.

Feraligatr.gif
|
chesto-berry.png

Feraligatr @ Chesto Berry **Over the Line
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 152 HP | 104 Atk | 112 SpD | 140 Spe
Dragon.png
- Dragon Dance
Psychic.png
- Rest
Water.png
- Waterfall
Normal.png
- Return

General Description

And this is how we wrap up the game. Credit is given to umbarsc for the current EV spread, and to franky for the set itself. With this spread, Milotic HP Grass is a 4HKO on average, and Slowbro will practically never 3HKO with Psychic, and Choice Band Arcanine ExtremeSpeed will never 2HKO. The basic strategy is to come in on something that can't do much to me, such as Registeel. While Registeel wastes a turn using Thunder Wave, I start Dragon Dancing. Keep on using Dragon Dance until I feel I have sufficient strength to attempt a sweep, Rest, and go for broke. Return was chosen over Earthquake to do some decent damage to Grass-types, should the need arise.

Okay, now I'm trying to gradually adapt this team to a Heracross filled meta-game. Rates are appreciated.

Hey, Forte nice team you have here.

Well, first off i can see a weakness to RP Perior, thankfully it can only set up on registeel however only gatr can take a eq and he's your main sweeper. To remedy this along with your RP Terra problem, i'd recommend a scarf primeape over your hitmonlee.
The specific set is
Primeape @ Choice Scarf
Jolly, 32 hp/ 252 atk/ 224 Spd
Vital Spirit
-Close Combat
-Ice Punch
-Stone Edge
-U-Turn
Other than that, i don't see too many threats you can't handle. Solid team.

Hey TSP.

First of all, your lead matchup list is outdated. Second, this is really a solid team - it's about as offensive as you can get without dying once you lose momentum.

Regirock > Registeel (with lots of SpD EVs, maybe 252 HP / 252 SpD) is still a good answer to your special folks and it hits much, much harder even with no investment.

Regirock @ Leftovers
Careful / 252 HP l 4 Atk l 252 SpD l
Clear Body
~Stone Edge
~Earthquake
~Thunder Wave
~Stealth Rock

You aren't stuck with crappy coverage, and best of all, it works well with the Primeape > Lee you mentioned on Shoddy. (Primeape has Ice Punch <3)

GL~

Bumping. Currently testing Scarf Primeape over Hitmonlee, Regirock over Registeel, and (later) Scarf Heracross over Scarf Primeape.

Really? You bumped this but didn't change the TPW mention to SlottedPig? -sad-

Also, I suggest LO + 4 attacks Hera > Scarf Hera. Scarf Hera is just .. not that threatening.

I disagree. Scarf Heracross makes a wonderful cleaner, and not much can stand up to Adamant Megahorn/Close Combat and/or a boost from Guts. Besides, without Scarf Heracross, I'm a lot more vulnerable to faster Pokemon (Moltres and Alakazam spring to mind).
