Revenge of the nOObs. An OU team

Hello all, I am Master PokéDork, and this is my first RMT. I say this is my first one because I am doing it correctly as I messed up the last 3 times I tried to post this team. I made this team as a result of Gen V. I was one of the players who did not appreciate the new changes. Weather was dominant, the importance of a lead (except for weathers) was greatly reduced, and I grudgingly tried to hang to my old ways in spite the change but eventually I saw the need. I began by using my favorite Pokemon just to start a random team and I love Togekiss, and since I hated not having a lead I decided a choiced flinch hax would be the optimal anti-lead in Gen V because a flinch is a flinch and I can take most pokemon who aren’t incredibly bulky, and I let it grow from there. I has a rule don’t stick with a singular team and I am prone to experimentation, but this team is one I found my self settling down with. Small tweeks have been made but it hasn’t ever strayed from what it is now. I believe my team is unique, and its non-weather and I have had a great success rate; something rare in Gen V. I am looking for any helpful comments. I have taken the team as far as I can so I want to see what the competitive community had to say.

Team Strategy

This is a hyper offensive team; but I focused on synergy to build a little web of excellent switches to create a defensive leaning, and thus far I am very pleased with the results. I have a core of 4, a special sweeper, and a physical sweeper. I keep switches limited to just a few if it means taking damage, I usually find it’s just easier to revenge kill and allow some losses because once I can eliminate the priority attackers and walls my sweepers can take care of the rest. When leading with my sweepers against unprepared teams they set up in one turn and sweep the rest of the team with no problem. So the idea is to punch as many holes in the team as I can in order to allow a sweep.

Togekiss (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SAtk / 72 SDef / 184 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Air Slash
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Trick

Role: Flinch Hax Lead/Revenge Killer

Serene Grace and a stab Air Slash are why I use Togekiss. SAtk is 372, so I can often OHKO in a sense; so long as I get a flinch I usually take most opposing pokemon to 50% or less health. Gengar and Starmie are out sped and KOed in 2 hits, as well as common threats such as Haxorus, Salamance, Physical Forrestress (the flinch lets me prevent entry hazards and bypass sturdy). Flamethrower was preferable over Aura Sphere for Ferrothorn and Scizor, which I found more useful. HP Ground seems strange but it’s the only way I catch Heatran offguard and can get a 1HKO with a 4x weakness.

Defensively, its typing makes it immune to key attacks. I also use Electivire to cover my electric weakness and can cover Electivire perfectly since Flying is immune to Ground. Also Espeon draws ghost attacks, usually from Gengar which outspeeds it so I switch in Togekiss and it’s immune to Ghost moves because of its normal typing and I can kill it with Air Slash. Its bulk means it is 2 or 3HKO thunderbolt from Gengar and Starmie depending on the set. Trick is to shut down problematic setup sets such as calm mind users late game.

Electivire (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Wild Charge
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Role: Anti-Weather Physical Attacker

Aside Electivire’s ability and typing, I needed one pokemon who took care of the three weather starters as those are the only leads Togekiss can’t effectively take on (except I use Espeon for Hippowdon to prevent SR). It outspeeds them so long as they aren’t choiced, which are only really used on Politoad, and has one super effective hit which can OHKO them. I was not sure if I would stick with this poke at first because it is RU, but nothing works better for my team. I want to bring down opponents quickly, and Electivire’s super effective coverage is something around 11 out of 17. Because of a 379 Atk stat + Life Orb this comes in handy, but its deadly if Motor Drive is activated. Electivire can also be a back-up sweeper if hit by and electric type move, giving it a speed around 450.

Espeon (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Psyshock
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Role: Magic Bounce Special Attacker

Espeon’s ability allows the team to operate really. I can’t allow stealth rock to come on to the field because it hampers my sweepers, it doesn’t cripple them but it makes my job harder since I need one turn to set up. Psyshock is my main STAB and it catches most switch ins off guard like Blissey although now it’s becoming predictable. It also hits Tentacruel and Roserade physically and super effectively so that shuts down most toxic spike users. Also reflects Spore for Breloom and Smeargle. Since I use this pokemon mostly to counter SR I decided to use grass knot and HP Fire for swampert, hippowdon, and steels. Grass Knot also hits most tyranitar for just has hard as HP fighting because of chople berry so it’s pretty much suicide against full HP Tyranitar, but its more important to prevent SR and revenge kill Tyranitar. HP Fire also allows me to kill Scizor because his bug attacks aren’t priority and they are taking by surprise.

Conkeldurr (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 180 HP / 252 Atk / 76 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback

Role: Drain Tank

Conkeldurr covers Rock and Dark attacks and is my tank. I have reliable(ish) healing with drain punch and that of course also does damage, which I love for this offensive play style. Conkeldurr can either set up on most physical pokemon and take out key threats mid game, or take center stage late game and clean up. Mach Punch is invaluable stab priority backed with gargantuan attack. With good prediction Payback is actually my most powerful move. Most standard teams only carry either one Psychic or Ghost pokemon and switch ins are obvious in most situations, and Payback delivers 1HKO’s and punches a huge hole in the opponent’s defense.

Volcarona (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Rock]

Role: Special Sweeper

I love this little moth. I had in mind 2 types of sweepers I wanted for this team, one of them being an attacking booster. The only poke that resists all these moves is Heatran. Volcarona is a revenge sweeper. I come in on a poke I can revenge kill with Fiery Dance and hopefully get a boost, then I use quiver dance and boost my speed and SAtk and surviving with Focus Sash, and then I sweep. I used to lead with Volcarona and sweep entire teams, and by making him a lead I avoided the need for a rapid spinner because of the 4x SR weakness, but with Magic Bounce I don’t worry so much keeping him tucked away, although it took some practice to get the hang of at first. In situations where I am faced with an opposing sweeper I can use Volcarona, relying on focus sash to pull off one hit and I can eliminate a huge threat. And although its a small thing, Flame body was worked better than I thought it would, especially against Scizor which is the most frequent switch in I see after luring with Volcarona.

Cloyster (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Ice Shard

Role: Physical Sweeper

This was the second type of sweeper I had in mind, one that can destroy substitutes after the set up. Skill Link ensures multi—attack moves hit 5 times. Same routine as the Volcarona, set-up then sweep. I have focus sash just in case, but I can usually find weakened physical attackers to switch in on such as Gliscor and set up safely. I typically use Cloyster after Volcarona to lure out any priority attackers. I think Cloyster is the best sweeper out there, so I usually save him for very last when the opponent thinks he is going to win with his 4 against my 1 poke, but then Cloyster sets up and sweeps. I keep ice shard to revenge kill dragons that set up dragon dance and choiced Landorus. Water attacks never saved me, but Ice Shard has more than I can remember.

Hi, pretty solid team here, but I do have a few suggestions.

First off If you want rates you'll neeeed pictures! So the easiest way to do this is to go to photobucket.com, search the pokemon you want, click on a picture you like, then to the bottom right you'll see a thing that says "IMG code" then next to it will be a lot of random looking numbers. Click on the numbers next to that and copy it, then paste the code onto your post! And walla you have a picture like below.

Pikachu.gif

Now to some suggestions! Firstly, you don't have a spinner, and you have volcarona. This is a baddddd thing. Yes you have espeon but Magic bounce just is not reliable enough to block SR. And yesss you use him as a lead sometimes which can prevent this, but like you said he is only a lead on occasion. So unless your going to make him a permanent lead you either need a spinner, or a different poke for volca.

Option#1: If you want to keep volca really bad then you'll need a spinner. The most replaceable person on your team I believe is Espeon. I suggest a Starmie running the life orb set at this link:

http://www.smogon.com/bw/pokemon/starmie

This lets you still have a psychic type in this spot with great coverage, and sweeping ability. He is also still ridiculously fast and will easily get out a rapid spin to blow away any rocks. And in the end you can't always predict SR and be able to block w/ espeon, and you won't always have him alive when the opponent sets up SR mid game or late game. Getting a spinner lets you always use volca!

Option #2: If you wanna drop volca then I have some suggestions for a different sweeper. I suggest you use Slowking, With a choic specs set like the one here:

http://www.smogon.com/bw/pokemon/slowking

Why use him? Lots of reasons. He provides you with a sweeper thats not a setup sweeper instead he'll be immediate power with wide coverage ready to take chunks out of unprepared teams. Yes it would be nice to keep volca and his boosting, but volca requires a LOT to setup successfully, he needs SR gone, he needs a turn or two to quiver dance, and then they might still kill you! Also your team is filled with pokemon that use boosting moves. Plus slowking with regenerator, can come in hit quickly and hard a few turns, pull back out and gain back any lost health! Next is that he's a stud with his high defensive stats, so he can definitely take a punch! Anooother reason he's great is because he's uncommon. This means that other players, especially ones with little experience will have a hard time knowing exactly how to counter him, and most won't have a sure fire way to do so. (unlike Volcarona who is suppppper commoon!) Lastly he'll lure out electric attacks that you can predict and switch to elecrivire to get your speed boost!

Hope this helps!!!

I agree with using Starmie. In addition to all the points mklo14 raised, Rapid Spin is just more reliable fo you other Sash Pokemon, Cloyster. Strong opponents can wear out Espeon relativly quickly, which means if just Rocks are up, 3 Pokemon take a lot of damage. With a spinner, Togekiss can come in and preserve its bulk as well. Furthermore, I suggest changing Conk's spread to 120 HP / 252 Atk / 132 SpD Adamant. This lets it live overall more hits, including most neutral special attacks, and physical ones after a Bulk Up. Other than that, nice HO team!

Hey, nice team! Your use of Togekiss is so interesting; I love it! Do you mind if I use that set? Because I really want to try it out.

However, your team has a few flaws. Your team lacks hazards, which crucial given that you have an hyper offense teams. You also lack a way around Scizor and +1 Dragonite, top sweepers of fifth gen. Therefore I suggest changing Electivire to Metagross simply because he provides the hazards your team desperately needs, as well as being a fantastic sweeper, keeping in theme with hyper offense. Plus, he counters both Pokemon quite effectively (except for Dragonites Fire Punch). Here's the set:

Metagross-Clear Body
252 HP/252 Att./4 Speed
Nature: Adamant Item: Leftovers/Air Balloon/Occa Berry
Stealth Rock
Meteor Mash
Hammer Arm
Bullet Punch

Also, I feel that you should change Espeon's set. While it's stats may say otherwise, it isn't a very good sweeper do to it's awful movepool. I suggest changing the sets to Dual Screens mainly because offensive teams love those. Here's the set:

Espeon-Magic Bounce
252 HP/4 Def./252 Speed
Nature: Timid Item: Light Clay
Reflect
Light Screen
Hidden Power Fighting/Ground/Fire
Psyshock

Other than that, your team is really good! You don't need a way around weather because your sweepers already plow through it already. I hope I helped! Good luck!
