Tank Rhydon is nothing short of a behemoth in SV PU, offering bountiful support to teams through its incredible Eviolite-boosted bulk, useful typing, and access to Stealth Rock. Rhydon's positive matchup against Rotom-Heat and non-Tera Blast Salazzle, its monstrous Attack, and Swords Dance are key advantages it has over other Stealth Rock users like Mudsdale and Palossand. Being both sturdy and powerful, Rhydon has little trouble keeping Stealth Rock up and trading with most of the tier while healthy, making it a highly valuable asset for its team at any given point. Rock Blast disrupts Focus Sash and SubToxic variants of Salazzle, OHKOes lead Galvantula, and has higher accuracy than Stone Edge, but it's weaker than Stone Edge on average and has few other practical uses. Tera Poison completely turns the tables on Electric-types like Pawmot and Hisuian Electrode in tandem with Lightning Rod, and it also deals with Choice Scarf Florges and Grass- and Fighting-types like Brute Bonnet and Toxicroak. Tera Flying covers Rhydon against other Ground-types like opposing Rhydon and Golurk while still improving its matchup against balance breakers like Pawmot and Grass Knot Delphox. Tera Water is useful against entry hazard removers like Cramorant, Alolan Sandslash, and Hisuian Avalugg and denies frailer revenge killers like Tera Ice Ambipom. Tera Water Rhydon also still walls Rotom-H thanks to Lightning Rod, which is notable considering that the other Tera types listed sacrifice Rhydon's Fire resistance.

With how many roles it compresses and the amount of progress it can make, Rhydon usually makes for a good addition to several bulky offense and balance teams. Defensive Water- and Grass-types like Milotic and Amoonguss must be accounted for when using Rhydon, since they don't mind switching into it and threaten it with heavy damage. Offensive teammates like Tatsugiri and Toxicroak can use these walls as points of entry and benefit from Rhydon's Stealth Rock chipping away at teams, while Pokemon like Venusaur and Hisuian Decidueye serve as bulkier switch-ins to said walls that can turn them into momentum. Tera Blast Salazzle and Will-O-Wisp Rotom-Heat can put Rhydon out of commission and are good at baiting it to switch in. Thus, it helps to pair Rhydon with other Pokemon that can pressure these foes and can check them in a pinch, such as Hoopa and Snorlax. In return, Rhydon can switch into and scare out bulky threats like Bombirdier and Arcanine. Physical sweepers like Arcanine, Grimmsnarl, and Choice Scarf Bruxish greatly appreciate Rhydon's ability to wear down walls like Mudsdale and Uxie, and they also offer valuable speed control to help support Rhydon in more offensive matchups. Finally, while not required, Wish support from Florges can prove extremely useful for Rhydon, particularly on balance teams where its poor longevity would otherwise be a hindrance.

Rhydon leverages its massive Attack, access to Swords Dance, and near-unresisted STAB combo to function as a fearsome wallbreaker. Despite the lack of bulk investment, Rhydon often finds multiple opportunities to set up due to being naturally tanky and possesing several viable Tera types. Rock Polish turns Rhydon a deadly late-game sweeper, letting it get the jump on much of the unboosted metagame. Alternatively, Rhydon can opt to use Stealth Rock to free up a moveslot on a teammate like Bombirdier. With a Jolly nature, Rhydon outspeeds Salazzle and Ambipom at +2 and also naturally outruns uninvested Florges and Alolan Sandslash. Tera Poison prevents Rhydon from being easily revenge killed by Fighting-types like Pawmot and Paldean Tauros-F, helps it better tank Florges's Moonblast, and lets it shrug off Grass-type coverage from foes such as Venusaur and Zoroark. Tera Flying gives Rhydon the upper hand versus Ground-types such as Palossand and opposing Rhydon while still protecting it from Fighting- and Grass-type attacks. Tera Water helps Rhydon blank Choice Scarf Bruxish and Tera Ice Ambipom without leaving it vulnerable to other foes like Rotom-Heat and Hisuian Typhlosion.

With Rock Polish, Rhydon makes for a devastating sweeper on hyper offense that also checks fast foes in Salazzle and Choice Scarf Bombirdier, which pose a huge threat to the playstyle. Bulky offensive teams seeking a general-purpose tank that can double as either a win condition or a Stealth Rock user may also find Rhydon appealing. Strong special attackers such as Salazzle and Hisuian Braviary can support Rhydon by weakening or removing physical walls like Amoonguss, Uxie, and Alolan Persian that would otherwise halt its sweep. These special attackers also serve as backup for opposing offensive threats in Shaymin and Paldean Tauros-F, which can give Rhydon an easier time conserving Tera. Rhydon values having teammates like Toxicroak, Tatsugiri, and Shaymin that can switch into Water- and Ground-types attacks aimed at it,
