[SET]
Offensive Pivot (Rillaboom) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 116 Atk / 4 Def / 60 SpD / 76 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Grassy Glide
- Fake Out
- U-turn / High Horsepower
[SET COMMENTS]
- Assault Vest Rillaboom excels at being a bulky pivot that is able to support its team with Fake Out and Grassy Terrain recovery while having high damage output with Wood Hammer. Rillaboom synergizes very well with setup Pokemon that appreciate the free turns that Fake Out provides as well as the healing from Grassy Terrain.
- Grassy Glide allows Rillaboom to take care of weakened foes, while Wood Hammer compensates for the low power of Grassy Glide to operate as a nuke. U-turn is usually the last move of choice on Rillaboom, as it allows one of its partners to come in safely while chipping down the foe, but Rillaboom can forgo it for High Horsepower, which allows Rillaboom to hit common Steel- and Fire-types such as Kingambit, Gholdengo, and Incineroar.
- Assault Vest is used on Rillaboom, as it enhances Rillaboom's ability to pivot, with the tradeoff being that it is unable to run status moves such as Protect and Taunt.
- Tera Fire gives Rillaboom an immunity to Will-O-Wisp and a resistance to common Fire- and Steel-type moves from Pokemon such as Incineroar, Hisuian Typhlosion, and Gholdengo.
- The Speed investment allows Rillaboom to outspeed maximum Speed Tyranitar and uninvested Annihilape, while the Attack investment allows Rillaboom to OHKO both Ursaluna formes with Wood Hammer. The bulk allows Rillaboom to live Flare Blitz from Incineroar, two Ice Beams from Porygon2, and a +1 Fiery Dance from Volcarona.
- Assault Vest Rillaboom is able to function a lot more effectively as a bulky pivot, as it is able to switch into special moves more easily. This is particularly helpful against teams that are more offensive in nature, such as hard Trick Room teams and Tailwind hyper offense teams that usually use strong specially offensive Pokemon such as Gholdengo and Hatterene to break through teams.
[SET]
Offensive Nuke (Rillaboom) @ Miracle Seed
Ability: Grassy Surge
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass / Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 196 Atk / 4 Def / 52 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Grassy Glide
- Fake Out
- U-turn / Taunt / Protect
[SET COMMENTS]
- Miracle Seed Rillaboom is an offensive piece that can still support its team with Fake Out, Grassy Terrain, and utility in U-turn pivoting or Taunt.
- U-turn is the fourth move of choice on most Miracle Seed Rillaboom; however, Taunt can be used instead to help shut down Amoonguss, and Protect can be used to aid in positioning.
- Miracle Seed allows Rillaboom to OHKO Primarina and Basculegion with Grassy Glide and OHKO Maushold with Wood Hammer.
- Rillaboom does not Terastallize often, but Tera Grass can be used to finish off low HP Pokemon with Grassy Glide or to nuke bulkier threats. For example, Tera Grass allows Rillaboom to OHKO Annihilape with Wood Hammer. Tera Fire gives Rillaboom an immunity to Will-O-Wisp from Magmar and a resistance to common Fire- and Steel-type moves from Pokemon such as Incineroar, Hisuian Typhlosion, and Gholdengo.
- The EV spread allows Rillaboom to survive a +2 Shadow Ball from Gholdengo, a Flare Blitz from Incineroar, and a Dire Claw from Sneasler.
- Miracle Seed Rillaboom is able to deal extra damage, allowing it to break through teams more effectively. Additionally, it is able to use status moves such as Taunt and Protect that are not available to Assault Vest Rillaboom. However, Miracle Seed Rillaboom is less effective as a defensive pivot, as it takes significantly more damage from special moves.

Teambuilding
============
- Rillaboom can be used with basically anything, as a lot of Pokemon appreciate its supportive toolkit. However, the Pokemon that Rillaboom synergizes the most with are, as stated before, setup Pokemon. Setup Pokemon appreciate Fake Out and Grassy Terrain from Rillaboom; the former gives them space to set up, while the latter offers residual healing, increasing their survivability. Rillaboom also appreciates partners that can help against Fire-types, such as Incineroar, and Steel-types, such as Archaludon and Kingambit.
- Primarina and Sneasler are great partners for Rillaboom, as they help with the aforementioned checks, while Rillaboom can help against the Water-types that resist Primarina's Hyper Voice and double Sneasler's Speed by using Grassy Terrain to activate Grassy Seed, triggering Unburden. Kingambit, Gholdengo, and Volcarona are the main setup partners for Rillaboom; Kingambit scares away Incineroar, Gholdengo offers quick setup and spread damage, and Volcarona is able to KO the Grass-types that resist Wood Hammer.
- Rillaboom's main weakness is its typing. Grass may be good defensively because it lets Rillaboom switch in easily, but it is not great offensively in this metagame, as a plethora of Pokemon resist Wood Hammer such as Amoonguss, Gholdengo, Archaludon, Kingambit, and Incineroar. The main way around this is to utilize Rillaboom's support capabilities when it cannot offer anything offensively in the position and pivot intelligently. Sneasler is another big threat, as it has a faster Fake Out than Rillaboom and can threaten it with Dire Claw. Bulky redirectors, such as Magmar and Electabuzz, can take big hits from Sneasler for Rillaboom. Smart pivoting and chipping Sneasler down throughout the game are how Rillaboom is able to get rid of it.
Strategy Comments
============
- Rillaboom's role is as a bulky support Pokemon that can still do great damage. Pivot with U-turn to cycle Fake Out, giving its partner free turns, and, when possible, nuke foes with powerful Wood Hammers and Grassy Glides.
- Rillaboom is usually a valuable part of the team throughout a game. In the beginning, Rillaboom is able to leverage Fake Out to allow its partner to set up early or get early damage off. Rillaboom usually pivots during the middle of the game to get more use out of Fake Out and get Grassy Terrain back on the field. Rillaboom chips down the opposing team throughout the game, but it excels at cleaning up in endgames thanks to its access to priority moves and high damage output.
- The biggest checks to Rillaboom are Pokemon that resist Grass. When playing against these Pokemon, it is important to pivot out with U-turn to preserve Rillaboom and allow it to get more value later in the game with its attacks. Additionally, partners such as the aforementioned Sneasler and Primarina can help against these Grass-resistant foes.
