Rillaboom is a unique wallbreaker given its terrain-boosted priority in Grassy Glide and strong secondary STAB move options that complement its primary attack well. Grassy Glide's priority in Grassy Terrain makes Rillaboom immediately threatening to faster, frail offensive threats like Lycanroc-D and Pheromosa. Physically defensive Steel-types easily take Grassy Glide, which is where Superpower comes in handy to threaten them. High Horsepower is another secondary STAB option to hit Grass-resistant foes like Heatran and Arcanine, but it leaves Rillaboom unable to threaten Steel / Flying types like Mew and Salamence. Knock Off provides nice coverage and a means to hit Ghost-types that resist Grass like Magearna, Reuniclus, and Salamence. Swords Dance makes Rillaboom extremely threatening to both offensive and defensive threats, letting Superpower easily 2HKO neutral targets like Steel / Flying Buzzwole. Life Orb gives Rillaboom's moves more power, and its recoil is slightly mitigated by terrain recovery.
Rillaboom's Grassy Terrain provides its teammates passive recovery and temporarily patches up weaknesses to Earthquake, so Ground-weak partners like Clefable and Coalossal can survive Earthquake in a pinch to set entry hazards, or recover instead in Clefable's case. Slower offensive teammates like Hydreigon and Latios appreciate Rillaboom's ability to pressure faster threats like Lycanroc-D and Pheromosa with Grassy Glide. Most Flying- and Bug-types threaten and wall Rillaboom, so teammates that can take these on like Thunderbolt or Flamethrower Magic Guard Clefable and Hurricane Tornadus-T are helpful.

Choice Band Rillaboom trades potential to set up for immediate power that. Wood Hammer in Grassy Terrain hits extremely hard, 2HKOing neutral targets such as Mew, Ground / Flying Buzzwole, defensive Ground / Bug Landorus-T, and Ghost / Fairy Cresselia. Superpower threatens Grass-resistant foes like Arcanine, Heatran, and Steel / Flying types like Mew and Salamence. High Horsepower also targets Steel-types as well as Fire-types, but it leaves Rillaboom unable to meaningfully damage Flying-types. Knock Off is a third option for the secondary STAB move that mainly targets walls like Dragon / Ghost Salamence but also hits and cripples neutral targets like defensive Mew. Grassy Glide provides Rillaboom with strong terrain-boosted priority to pick off faster, frail offensive foes like Dragapult and Pheromosa. U-turn lets Rillaboom pivot out and scout the opposing team for potential switch-ins while bringing in its teammates.

Rillaboom can bring these teammates in with U-turn to take on its defensive checks. Rillaboom's strongest attack also deals significant recoil damage, so teammates that can pass Wishes like Latias and Salamence can come in handy.

Other Options
=============
Life Orb sets can opt for a Grass / Dark typing via Knock Off, but this doesn't offer as nice coverage and makes Rillaboom extremely weak to U-turn. Life Orb sets also have various status moves to choose from in place of Swords Dance, like Bulk Up, Leech Seed, and Taunt, and can opt for a Fighting-type STAB move without drawbacks in Drain Punch. Each of these options takes away from its immediate breaking power, however. On Swords Dance sets, Rillaboom can hold a Grassy Seed in conjunction with Acrobatics in place of Knock Off to boost its Defense and nail its common checks like Bug / Fighting Landorus-T and Tornadus-T. This again reduces its power, though.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Flying-types**: Rillaboom's primary STAB type, Grass, is checked by almost all Flying-types, and these checks threaten to KO Rillaboom with their own STAB moves. Rillaboom's best way to hit many Flying-types is neutral damage, either the stronger Superpower or Knock Off to remove Heavy-Duty Boots.
**Fire-types**: Fire-types like Arcanine, Cinderace, and Volcarona also resist Rillaboom's Grass-type attacks and threaten to KO it in return. However, Rillaboom is able to threaten most Fire-types with its secondary STAB moves like High Horsepower and Superpower.
**Tornadus-T**: Tornadus-T is commonly seen with Fighting / Flying and Fire / Flying typings, both of which check Rillaboom's STAB and coverage moves well and threaten it offensively with super effective moves like Hurricane, Heat Wave, and Superpower. Tornadus-T can also revenge kill Rillaboom with its Dark / Poison set via Sludge Bomb.
**Intimidate**: Intimidate users such as Bug / Fighting Landorus-T and various Salamence sets can counter, or at least check, Rillaboom depending on its coverage thanks to dropping its Attack on the switch and heavily resisting its moves. Grassy Seed Acrobatics sets give Rillaboom an option to hit Landorus-T, while Superpower and Knock Off variants can hit the Salamence sets.
**Cresselia**: Cresselia's primary Poison / Fairy set easily walls Rillaboom's STAB and coverage moves and forces it out with the threat of Moonblast and setting up with Calm Mind. However, Cresselia's other sets, like Ghost / Fairy, are 2HKOed by Choice Band Wood Hammer.
