Rising from the Ashes - Balance Blaze

Peak: 1800+ ELO

Hey everyone! After weeks of refining ideas and experimenting, I’ve built what I truly believe is my best team yet. This is a bulky balance team centered around :blaziken:, an underrated offensive threat in the current metagame. I’m not a fan of hyper offense; I prefer well-rounded teams that combine offense, defense, hazards, and pivoting. This team does exactly that, while maintaining momentum and pressure in every matchup — stall, fat, rain, and sun included.

Blaziken @ Leftovers
Ability: Speed Boost
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature

  • Swords Dance
  • Close Combat
  • Flare Blitz
  • Protect
The heart and soul of the team. After months of trying different structures (bulky offense, standard offense, etc.), I landed on this bulky balance build to maximize Blaziken’s potential. Life Orb was initially tempting, but the recoil from Flare Blitz combined with hazards and Life Orb chipped it down far too fast. With Leftovers and :alomomola:'s Wish support, Blaziken gets multiple opportunities to shine throughout the game, not just late-game.

Tera Fighting provides huge payoff, giving Close Combat the extra damage needed to secure crucial KOs (yes, I am looking at you :ogerpon-wellspring:). Protect isn’t just for Speed Boost abuse—it’s a great way to bait out enemy Teras (e.g., ghost tera's predicting CC), scout sets, or safely position yourself before clicking the right move.

Slowking-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe

  • Future Sight
  • Chilly Reception
  • Sludge Bomb
  • Thunder Wave
Our special wall and part of the regenerative pivot duo alongside Alomomola. Chilly Reception is amazing not just for pivoting, but also for negating weather matchups. Against Sun/Rain/Sand, Glowking is often our lead to turn the tides early. Future Sight forces switches or punishes passive play, often enabling Blaziken to come in safely and wreak havoc (especially when the opponent is going to switch into a Dark type to negate Future Sight's damage). Tera Water gives Glowking the edge to survive threatening ground moves and continue pivoting before it falls. Thunder Wave adds clutch speed control in the face of setup sweepers.

darkrai.gif

Darkrai @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Bad Dreams
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

  • Nasty Plot
  • Dark Pulse
  • Ice Beam
  • Focus Blast
Originally I ran Choice Specs Iron Crown in this slot, but something was missing: speed, pressure, and Ghost matchup coverage. Since adding Darkrai, the team has gone 14-0. It’s a phenomenal stallbreaker and snowballer. Nasty Plot turns it into a monster, and its STAB + coverage hits almost everything. Ice Beam was the missing move from the rest of the team’s toolkit. Focus Blast deletes Blissey when potted and allows Darkrai to shine as a breaker. Tera Poison offers resilience against Toxic stall tactics and even First Impression users. The same concept of Blaziken applies for Darkrai, with heavy duty boots + alomomola Wish pivoting, enables Darkrai to be used way more freely in the game, even as a lead.

alomomola.gif

Alomomola @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe

  • Scald
  • Flip Turn
  • Wish
  • Protect
The unsung hero of the team. Alomomola's massive HP lets it pass game-changing Wishes to :blaziken: and :darkrai:. Rocky Helmet punishes contact users, which adds up over long games, setting up for a sweep. Her Flip Turn keeps momentum rolling while her ghost typing post-Tera helps her avoid Rapid Spin and Fighting-type attacks, mainly from Zamazenta. Together with Corviknight, she forms a sturdy physical core.

corviknight.gif

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature

  • Brave Bird
  • Defog
  • U-turn
  • Roost
Corviknight was always going to be here. With hazard removal mons in short supply, Corvi is balance’s go-to. Defog is essential for this team, more reliable than Rapid Spin, allows leftovers Blaziken to come in more freely, and also clears screens from opponent's side. Brave Bird + U-turn pressures threats like :ogerpon-wellspring: , and if Oger Teras to avoid Brave Bird's damage, Corvi chips with U-turn and :blaziken: comes in to finish her off with Protect + CC. Dragon Tera improves and pressures matchups against opposing Fire and Electric types. Speaking of Pressure, Corviknight's Pressure ability shouldn't be slept on — it has won games against bulkier offenses, especially vs Iron Defense Zamazenta, Corvi + Alomomola’s Rocky Helmet forms perfect counterplay.
Together, the three — :Corviknight:, :Slowking-Galar:, and :Alomomola:— form a triple pivoting core for the balance team. Leftovers is there for longevity due to Brave Bird’s recoil and Alomomola already possessing our Rocky Helmet.

gliscor.gif

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 244 HP / 36 Def / 228 SpD
Careful Nature

  • Stealth Rock
  • Knock Off
  • Toxic
  • Protect
Last mon added but crucial to the team’s flow. Gliscor provides the hazard we need while offering passive progress with Toxic. With Protect on three mons, Roost on another, and a double Regen core, Toxic stall racks up fast. For his offensive move, we have two options; to either go Knock Off which is a great move our team is lacking so far, or Earthquake. While EQ handles crucial threats, especially Tera Fire :dragonite: , balloonless :gholdengo:, :heatran:, and a few others.., Knock Off better aids the team against stall matches, alleviating :darkrai:'s job, pairing with Toxic it's just a matter of playing the waiting game. Tera Water improves its defensive longevity and makes Gliscor incredibly tough and annoying to break.

Conclusion
This team represents the balance I’ve been striving for — one that’s comfortable in any matchup, with pivoting, hazards, status, wallbreaking, cleaning, and regeneration all flowing seamlessly. While I have not been getting a lot of free time to play recently (often dropping Elo from inactivity) I managed to get my alt from 1300s to 1800+ ELO using this team only, it’s been smooth and consistent, and I truly think it has what it takes to climb even further.

Thanks for reading — feedback is appreciated!

Very Excellent team , One change I would suggest is using KNOCK OFF on GLISCOR . Since this team does not currently have a knock off user , and knockoff is extremely usefull against stall when hazards are up.
Thank you for analyzing the team and reading the whole RMT, and YES! That was one of the only missing things the team had when I was reviewing it, was the lack of a knock off user. While also missing a ground move (if we do go for knock off) you’re right, opting for knock off makes us not need to rely solely on darkrai vs stall, thus giving more options of plays. Appreciate the insight and I’ll be posting the changes on the team!

What do you do for your HO match ups? I’ve lost to Kommo-O like 6 times lol
Most HO matchup's have been very fine especially since those are what you encounter the most usually on ladder. Maybe it's just unlucky but I have only encountered Kommo-O once, and I relied on Gliscor's Toxic, and Corviknight's Brave Bird and had no problem with him. But that's not the only solution against Kommo-O, if you play forward with Blaziken in matchups where the opponent has Kommo-O, Blaziken will outspeed him given that Blaziken was on the field either a turn before or the same turn as Kommo-O, and he can even secure a OHKO without any swords dance.
