Hello guys,
My OU team recently achieved a rating of 1535 on Showdown, though I'm currently around a 1475. I was hoping that you all could give me some suggestions on how to stay in the 1500 tier.
Dragonite (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
Dragonite is my DD sweeper, and the Lum Berry is to ensure that a status condition does not cripple him before he has a chance to set up. Dragon Claw of course is for STAB, and Extreme Speed is to finish off opponents, as well as out-prioritize other moves, such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch. Earthquake is to deal with Heatran, Tyranitar, Bisharp, and other Pokemon that Dragonite gets walled with. I have tried Scarf Dragonite in the past, but I really dislike how it only locks you into one move, and it didn't work well for me. I would have considered Garchomp or another Dragon-Pokemon to fill this spot, especially as Dragonite is susceptible to Stealth Rock, but it can't learn Extreme Speed, which is a utility that I really want.
Conkeldurr (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Thunder Punch
The Assault Vest is great for increasing Conkeldurr's terrible Special Defense, and combined with his bulkiness, it makes it harder to take him down. Mach Punch is for STAB and priority again. I put Drain Punch to help Conkeldurr regain health and help its bulk. Knock Off can be used to remove pesky Leftovers and to provide some resistance against Pokemon such as Aegislash. Thunder Punch is my only electric move in my entire team, and I often use it when predicting switch-ins for Pokemon like Azumarill and Talonflame.
Charizard (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Roost
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- Solar Beam
Charizard is my mega evolution, and I chose Y over X because I needed some more special attackers, along with a Flying-type move. Roost is to regain health, but I don't use it as much as I should (especially since CharY is so frail), so if there is a better move to replace this with, that would be great. I was thinking HP Ground to deal with Heatran, but I don't know if that would be smart. Flamethrower is for STAB and Air Slash is to deal with Conkeldurr's and Dragon-types that Charizard is otherwise resistant to. Solar Beam is to take advantage of Charizard Y's ability and to counter Azumarill and other Water- and Rock-types.
Manaphy @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Energy Ball
- Ice Beam
I initially had my Manaphy based on Rain Dance to take advantage of Hydration, but I felt as if that and Rest took up valuable spots, so I switched to a Tail Glow set, which has worked much better. Surf is for STAB, and Ice Beam is for Dragon-types which Manaphy can otherwise be walled by. Energy Ball is for Azumarill, which Manaphy is otherwise walled by.
Tyranitar (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
I also gave Tyranitar an Assault Vest to improve its Special Defense, and it has worked extremely well, allowing it to easily withstand Surf, Solar Beam, and sometimes even Focus Blast. Stone Edge and Crunch are for STAB, and Earthquake is another move that takes advantage of Tyranitar's awesome attack. Ice Punch is a filler move; it has worked great for me for Pokemon such as Landorus and Garchomp, but it would be great if a better move can replace it. I did not make this a DD sweeper because its Special Defense would leave it exposed and easy to knock out.
Excadrill (M) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
Excadrill relies on Tyranitar's Sand Stream to speed up, and it is also my Rapid Spinner. It has a pretty basic moveset. Iron Head is for Fairy-types and gets STAB, as does Earthquake. Rock Slide is another filler move that I put in to replace Stealth Rock, which I did not use much. However, I don't know if it's the best choice. Similarly, I don't know if Excadrill is the best Rapid Spinner (I was thinking maybe Fortress) or if I should use a Defogger instead, especially as I don't have entry hazards myself.
When battling, I noticed that Stealth Rock cripples a third of my team. I want to keep Charizard Y as my mega, but is there a substitution for Dragonite. Also, Fighting-types are a big problem (Medicham, Conkeldurr, Breloom), and they can easily knock out Tyranitar and Excadrill if Charizard Y faints. This is part of the reason why I am willing to switch Excadrill. Finally, none of my team knows a Psychic move, so if one could learn it, that would be amazing.
Thanks in advance!
